I don't doubt that the Board, manager and players are doing their best. Personal abuse grates with me but things like match performances, tactics, squad changes etc are fair game for us to applaud or moan as we see fit.

It was of course false modesty for me to say that we're ALL know nothing amateurs.

It may well be that the club knows best - I hope so.

Doesn't leave us much to talk about though if we can't speculate, moan, criticise etc on here.

Does it really need saying that we're all know nothing amateurs. We know that surely.

We have though got a massive amount of emotion invested in this club. More than is healthy probably.

I agree 100% - commenting about what is going on made this board interesting.
Unfortunately this turned in a vituperative tirade about the management of our club that was supported by facts that turned out to be nothing of the sort. You don't need to insult them to say what you think but a lot of what has been written was an insult and nothing else.

As a regular reader of this board I was left to wonder if it had been infiltrated by QPR supporters looking to get one over us.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

QPR have met Anzhi Makhachkala's release clause for defender Christopher Samba, the Press Association understands.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp said yesterday that he did not think that the move was "a goer" as he did not see the 28-year-old leaving Russia.

You're taking this transfer thread by the scruff of the neck, Burt. Deadline day is going to be hectic...

The prospect of a M'Bia and Samba centre back partnership is frightening. So much muscle - no nonsense.

Yeah they should be solid enough to grind out another 14 0-0's

I think the ManCity and ManU performances were wholly deserving of vituperative tirades.

I'd love to come on here tomorrow full of praise for a quality performance tonight.

Samba would be a quality signing but didnt he leave Blackburn when they were a sinking ship? Why would he want to come back and do it all over again?
Same reason he went to play in Russia.

Rats tend to flee sinking ships, but it doesn't deter them from getting onto another one.

Jol on Manolev and Urby, from a dutch site:

"He (Manolev) is in different positions usable on the right, but very much to spend, we have not. So we try at minimal cost to take over"

"We are in the summer at the last minute as important midfielders Danny Murphy, Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey lost. We deal with injuries so I'm very happy that Urby this way will come. "
"He may well offensively in midfield play on the outside and even left back. At Ajax I have good working with him, he played his best season. And I've seen that he joined AC Milan well developed."

Sporting Life is now reporting that Everton's Leroy Fer deal is off.

Confirmed:

Everton tell Sky Sports that their deal to sign Leroy Fer from FC Twente is off after problems with the midfielder's medical.

"We were very excited at the prospect of Leroy coming to Goodison but unfortunately the transfer did not go smoothly there were some issues," said chief executive Robert Elstone.

"I think our fans will understand that we had to put the club and the club's finances first. There are other options for us and we will work hard on them. It will not be for want of trying."

Sounds more like they failed to agree personal terms than a failed medical IMHO.

I don't see why you would think that.

If they fail to agree personal terms - OK, deals off. Happens all the time in real life. No skin off anyone's nose.

But if you start using medicals as an excuse you are getting on to dodgy ground. A 'failed medical' must, surely, diminish a player's value and must, equally surely, be legally verifyable.

Didn't we run into some legal problems over this a while back? Carew? Or am I hallucinating (again).

...But medical staff at Goodison Park apparently raised concerns regarding the player, and Everton have gone back to Twente in an attempt to renegotiate the deal...
FC Twente chairman Joop Munsterman: Today they started up the negotiations once again. During the day they came with all sort of additional conditions about the payment terms and also the transfer fee. We don't play that game at Twente. They can come up with any demand they wish but we're not playing along with their demands."

I don't know that I agree with this, at least not necessarily.  I can see why "we had to put the club and the club's finances first" could mean "the player wanted too much money," but in view of reports that have been published waying he failed his medical, it certainly could also mean "we didn't want to spend a big transfer fee on a player who's an injury risk."

The quote from the Twente chairman gives me the impression that Everton's medical revealed some kind of an issue that they weren't aware of when the transfer fee was originally agreed upon, so they tried to renegotiate the fee and/or put in a clause about the player staying healthy, and Twente balked at that request.

BBC Radio Norfolk:

Leeds striker Luciano Becchio is in Norwich to discuss personal terms. The 29-year-old Argentine has scored 19 goals from 31 games in all competitions this season. He handed in a transfer request last week after failing to agree terms on a new deal at Elland Road.

Part of me is thinking that we should make a bid for him.

For whatever reason I get the feeling that the club don't view Stockdale as the long term #1.
