Adel Taarabt

I think the defining issue will be whether we could better use his domestic loan slot ( or Bent's but I think that deal is season long regardless but Taraabt's is at our option) for someone from Man U like Buttner, Young or Anderson ( Saha is going nowhere according to Moyes). If Taraabt does not impress enough in training or over the Xmas period RM may decide he needs a replacement for the 3 of Sidwell, Kara and Parker rather than another talented #10, especially with Dempsey back for 2 months.
Quark, strangeness and charm

Forever Fulham

I would give Rene a chance to try to  'reach' Adel, to show him footage of what he does right and wrong, situationally, and to re-learn the game as more of a constant teammate than a loan scout out on patrol.  Some rather dumb people have made very good footballers.  We all know a few by name.  So I wonder if it's a question of selfishness and lack of situational awareness with him, rather than just being, well, not too bright.  Maybe Rene can channel his individual talent to make him a better player.  He might be just the guy to do it.

I didn't like the signing as soon as it happened. No doubt the boy has talent but he very rarely shows it compared to his wild dead end runs and shooting form 35 yards out. Not what we needed.

I don't know, there were times (in the darkest days of Jol) that he was the only player actively looking to attack. True, he would rather shoot from the half way line than pass to a team-mate - but if Rene do what others haven't and actually get him THINKING then there's no reason he can't be a first team player.

Redknapp has publicly stated he doesn't want him back, so if Berbatov and Ruiz end up leaving in January I can see him playing a big role.

Im sorry but if we start relying on taarabt to play a big role in keeping us up then we may as well give up now. Hes 24 years old and still doesn't know how to pass a ball. No heart and certainly not a player we want to be relying on in a relegation battle. Shall i mention QPR as an example?

Class act and class today.

First name on the team sheet for Thursday I hope.

Essential ingredient if we hope to stay up.

Great player.
Him, Bent and a few others have been completely mugged off.

I wouldn't go so far as to call him a great player. He's a great talent certainly. There are some fundamental elements of his game that need work IMO. For the majority of this season, he's not had that final pass or shot in his game. He's too often dribbled into cul de sacs a la young Dembele (the 1st). He did show signs of improvement over the course of the game today though.

Absolutely spot on about players being overly/wrongly criticized.

What did he do today ?  How well did he play ?  Any Rene magic rubbing off on the lad ?

When he was in Jol's team, of the matches I saw he provided the only shots on goal we had!

Would love to see him play where Karagounis has been.

This would be my team of choice (when Dempsey and Hangeland are around)

Stek (although if he doesnt improve soon, put Stockdale back in)
Riether Hangeland Senderos Riise
Parker Sidwell
Dejagah Taarabt Dempsey
Berbatov

If we're gonna go down, let it be in style.

Somebody asked what he did.  Here's my list:
He was one of our best players.  A constant thorn in City's defence.  He controlled difficult balls zipped into him.  He ran at City's defenders well.  He made our first goal with a great burst of speed to skin the right back AND....wait for it... actually managed to put in a great cross for Richardson's easy goal.
I was mightily impressed as he brought a lot of energy to the team and proved to be a very useful outlet for the midfield and fullbacks to play to.
It was an inspired decision by Rene to put him there.  If only our new Dutcher could sort out the basic defensive errors at the back.

There's a French saying [and I won't try French even though my heritage is Cajun] that goes: "Give a German a rifle and he heads straight for Paris." So it is that you give Taarabt a decent pass, and he'll head straight for goal.

I thought he had an excellent match. He looked like he did when he was QPRs captain and leader in the Championship. I wonder if he who shall remain nameless booed him when his name was announced.

Put the ball right through the defender's wickets for Richardson's goal.

Count Berbatov

He was excellent. So much to offer. Held up the ball. Ran channels through their defense. And in the rare occasions he passed the ball, he looked every bit as good a CF as it gets.

Berbatov has Cantona's knack of being the man amid a stampede towards the door who stops to notice a side exit that nobody else has seen.

with Dempsey and taarabt in the team, berba would never get the ball. and they would end up wasting shots from the halfway line trying to out do each other

In the one game yesterday he had more impact than Dave & Bent have had in all their combined playing time for us.

So that would include Bent's winner against Stoke then?

JackyFulham90

When I made this post Taarabt wasn't making the bench seemed to be fazing out, I have always rated Taarabt was very excited when we signed him, yesterday showed what a good player he can be, I hope he keeps his place at Norwich

@jolslover

Played great yesterday,  I think he deserves a decent 1st team run

I think WITH a decent run in the first team, we will see a lot more from him.
Mr Twitchy has said that there is no way back for him at QPArse, so maybe that was also the kick up the backside he needed.  If we are his only option, he knows he has got to start putting in the effort.  To be fair to Rene, he seems to be getting a lot more out of all the players.
Next 4 games will make or break our season.

He was probably our man of the match, a constant thorn in City's side.

I have always had a question-mark against his attitude, but yesterday he never flagged, played selflessly, and marhsalled the troops at times when they were dropping too deeply.

Specifically, he made himself available, wanted the ball, and when he got it he either attacked, brought others in, had a pop at goal or set others up e.g. he laid on the goal which Richardson scored (after a great run, by the way).

I thought he was outstanding. Well played Mr T.
