Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is pushing to sign a new striker this week.

Wenger has admitted he will try to sign a new striker before the transfer window shuts.

He said: "Quality-wise, no. But number-wise we are maybe a bit short.

"It will not be easy, though, because you do not find strikers who are good enough to play for us on the street."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out signing Barcelona striker David Villa.

The Spain striker has been linked with the Gunners since the transfer window opened but Barcelona have consistently said they will not sell the striker.

Wenger said: "Barcelona don't want to sell, they've made that clear. I said they don't want to sell, I didn't say he was a target."

There have been no new arrivals at the Emirates this month despite Arsenal's position outside the top four and the departures of Marouane Chamakh and Johan Djourou.

Fulham are eyeing Brest striker Jonathan Ayite.

The People says the Cottagers have also made an enquiry about 27-year-old Brest striker Ayite.

Apparently, it's generous. I don't think this is a case of Hangeland playing silly buggers with us, I'd bet a large sum that it's his agent.

I can't imagine Brede being a money grabber and I also cant see us giving into his agents excessive demands.... especially based on this seasons form.

The grapevine I have read reckons it's not very generous. Thing is, there's no denying a) he's been poor this season and b) the age situation still hasn't been resolved. In light of those, I'm not sure I'd bother being overly generous

We didn't hear anything at all about Frimpong before it was announced.  You can't put too much stock on the rumors that you hear, especially regarding this current FFC management team which plays things very close to the vest.

Re. Cissokho, it's a bit unnerving that Valencia would be considering selling him just a few months after they brought him in to replace Jordi Alba, although maybe Valverde just doesn't like him as much as Pellegrino did.  For what it's worth, the accounts I'm seeing say they paid €6m for him, and not the £12m mentioned upthread, so maybe they just want to stick with Mathieu and turn a quick profit on Cissokho.  (Would he even be eligible to come play for Fulham right away?  He played a couple of league matches for Lyon at the start of the year, so wouldn't he be barred by the three club rule?)

Hard to imagine they'd be willing to let Cissokho go as you say but you never know with these things. The emergence of Juan Bernat might be a reason they'd be open to it. He looks an extremely talented player.

God, I hope so. The last time I wanted someone OUT of the Premier League this badly it was Christian Ronaldo. I haven't missed his presence for even a second since, and I know I'll feel no loss when Balotelli is some other league's problem.

i am on the opposite side of the fence to you Hatter re roaldo, i used to enjot watchign his skill in the prem. He has suceeded in 3 countres playing and arguably in the best and toughest league around. as for balo i am ambivalent towards him, he has a lot of talent but i fear he will waste it
