Option on Harrison Reed

I read we have an option to take Harrison for £8m.
Then I read that Southampton do not have to abide by this option, so what is the point of having an option.
Or is it just lazy journalism again ??

Tony Khan seems to believe we have the option and I believe it's down to reed from what I can make out. But let's not be under any delusion, if saints offer reed first team football he will stay with them

General

It's an option which I assume may come with various legal technicalities. For instance the option would be null and void if Harrison Reed didn't want to come back to the club because another club e.g. Crystal Palace came in and made a more interesting offer/case.

Whilst I've known Fulham to spend 14 years in the premiership in my lifetime, we've been a yoyo/championship club since we were relegated 6 years ago, which for younger players isn't that memorable or doesn't breed confidence in thinking and assocating us with being a stable premiership club. Harrison Reed is 25, but would've been 18/19 when we came out of the premiership... if he had a standard type of ambition, he may very well be looking for a more promising project.

I imagine another caveat may be that if an offer comes in over a certain amount then perhaps they can renege on the option - although less likely. I imagine the issue may come from a contrast of beliefs around a players worth.

Reed will have come to Fulham perhaps as a sideways step or step down, believing his ability and qualities are worth more. During his time with us T Khan may have tried assessing his value to be less than Reed believes his future worth is and there could be an issue in the negotiations as a result.

What makes you think he'd choose Southampton over us? Personally, I think he'd choose us over them, the club/team mates he's probably closest to after playing a big part in our promotion.

From what read initially I was convinced we did Not have an option, however, TK stated yesterday the direct opposite. If what TK said is completely pukka then, "what's the hold up"?
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.

because he's already said that if he doesn't get first team football next season then he would have to consider his future. Plus he went up through their academy and is a saints fan is he not.

I would assume that the bid is already in and it is currently up to Reed.

yep, and I'd imagine he will be on holiday anyway

Having read all of the above it sounds as if the Option is not worth the paper it is written on, anyone can now come in and persuade Reed that they are the club for him, Roy will make a good job of that.

It stops Southampton from pulling another Targett deal where they demand £20 million for him.

i don't see much difference between us and palace so I'd like to think he would pick us, like I said above, the danger is if saints want him. And they have just sold their first choice dm

He is not a loaf of bread - he can decide not to step into our shopping trolley
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Even with Hojberg leaving, I can't see Saints saying he'll be a regular (or be a regular) in that side. They have better out on loan due to come back so I'd imagine he'll sign. If he stays and wants to fight it out, good luck to him.

He's faced with the choice of living the London life with clubs/restaurants etc., or fish and chip suppers watching the ships go by in Southampton......Hmm, tough one that... :023:

Not like he has had much of a chance to appreciate them lately. Being in quarantine and all.

Indeed if he was that high up the pecking order surely they would have kept him as back up.last year. Surely no more then 2nd choice there now
