Why should the fact that he's made 5 visits make a difference?
He might have seen 3 times as many Fulham games as you.
I don't think the number of posts people have made should affect their right to their opinion.

Forget stealing Aston Villa's better players like Taggett, they are in a relegation battle with us next season and won't sell to Mr Khan unless the price is insanely overvalued. We need to get players from the Big Clubs, the Championship and Overseas, even Southampton know selling us Harrison Reed could keep us up and put them down, which they need more than £8m to consider.

If there was an option for £8m (as is strongly rumored) Southampton have no say in the matter.
unless they tell him he will be first choice with a new bumper contract.

They still wouldn't get more than £8m from us, which was the point I referred to. If the rumors are true, they will get £8m or nothing. And as others pointed out, it is not up to them directly in any case (still assuming the option exists and have or will be exercised). It is up to Reed and/or Fulham, depending on what the current "hold up" is.

To get Harrison Reed, we have to pay £8m transfer fee to Southampton and get Reed to sign for us. Any team that wants Harrison Reed just has to pay £9m transfer fee to Southampton and provide a better offer than us. Some club may offer him £70k per week, which is higher than anyone at the club has been rumoured to earn. Are we willing to make Reed our highest-paid player and what effect will that have on morale of other players like Mitrovic?

Based on what would any club offer 70k per week for Reed? I mean, of course anything can theoretically happen, but that amount seems completely absurd for a 25 year old that has proven nothing at this level. What team would ever offer that? I believe the much bigger risk is that Reed fancies another team for other reasons, not that someone overpays completely. And you don't know what other teams have to pay, because surely they don't have clauses (maybe Southampton wants to keep him).

Could it be Southampton are dragging it out for some reason?

Maybe - they took piss with us over Targett (who in my opinion is not worth £5m let alone £14m that they were asking), so I guess they are happy to mess us around for a second time as we are once again their 'rivals' next season.

It's an option which I assume may come with various legal technicalities. For instance the option would be null and void if Harrison Reed didn't want to come back to the club because another club e.g. Crystal Palace came in and made a more interesting offer/case.

Whilst I've known Fulham to spend 14 years in the premiership in my lifetime, we've been a yoyo/championship club since we were relegated 6 years ago, which for younger players isn't that memorable or doesn't breed confidence in thinking and assocating us with being a stable premiership club. Harrison Reed is 25, but would've been 18/19 when we came out of the premiership... if he had a standard type of ambition, he may very well be looking for a more promising project.

I imagine another caveat may be that if an offer comes in over a certain amount then perhaps they can renege on the option - although less likely. I imagine the issue may come from a contrast of beliefs around a players worth.

Reed will have come to Fulham perhaps as a sideways step or step down, believing his ability and qualities are worth more. During his time with us T Khan may have tried assessing his value to be less than Reed believes his future worth is and there could be an issue in the negotiations as a result.
Reed came to Fulham to get more game time, he has never been a regular at Southampton and form memory has been out on loan numerous times. We gave him that opportunity and will continue to get it with us so what will Southampton do with him, I don't know and neither does he so staying with us may be his best option.

I don't know about everyone else, but I am now getting concerned about the transfer of Harrison Reed.
I think most fans would agree we need him to give the right balance in the midfield. I think we are passed the stage of a holiday break, so what is our Tony doing about this? Please do not screw this one up.

I'm not overly concerned - as long as he signs before the start of the season.  It is more important that we bring in 'new' signings more quickly as they will take time to settle and get accustomed to the way we play.

It seems like the club have the right idea in terms of permanently signing/bringing back players who were recently with us (Reed, Arter, Kongolo, Babel and maybe Chambers). Whilst you could argue that none of them are world beaters, at least we will have a largely settled squad for the start of the season - which I think is essential. That said - I definitely think that we are in trouble if we do not sign a quality right back...

Is there really anything whatsoever inidcating that the "delay" has anything to do with anyone else than Fulham and/or Reed? Unless all the reports of an option were just lies Southampton most likely can't mess with us even if they wanted to.

Reed's agent is probably asking for £90k per week, and Tony Khan wants to wait for the price to drop or buy someone better. If Harrison Reed would accept Seri's wages, I believe he would be signed right away as the transfer fee to the club is only £8m.

Cannot say I can read this any better than anyone else on here.  Is the ball in our court, Harrison's court, or somewhere else?  Who knows?  Football can be a funny old game.

For sure it could all be down to personal terms but wouldn't there already have been discussion about that simply because FFC would surely have been keen to retain Reed no matter what the outcome of the play-off final was?  Is this another occasion where lack of experience or coordination of action has made matters more difficult than they needed to be, is it a much less obvious problem, or is there no problem at all?

Buying a house takes months and that's without signing on fees, staying up bonus, goals bonus, clean sheet bonus, win bonus, games played bonus, release clause, Europa place bonus, Cups, plates, saucepan and the kitchen sink!

These things take time, nothing to Reed in to it  :005:

How dare you introduce some rationality and facts into this discussion. Don't you realise that his failure to sign for us before leaving the pitch at Wembley can only mean that we'll have to pay him as much as Ronaldo, and/or that our option to buy clearly includes some groundbreaking wording that means actually we don't have an option to buy...

No doubt Tony Khan would have given Reed an offer at a price that he is a good deal, and no doubt Reed thinks that he might get better elsewhere otherwise he would have signed already. If Tony Khans offer is Reed's best offer, Harrison Reed will eventually accept and no need to worry. If Tony Khans offer is not Reed's best offer,  he will probably sign for another club.

Fulham have agreed an £8m transfer fee with Southampton, if Harrison Reed wants to accept. But Southampton probably would prefer a £10m fee with another club that would sign Harrison Reed like Crystal Palace. So basically, Harrison Reed is available to everyone for around £8-10m transfer fee and we don't have an advantage other than he likes FFC.

This got me thinking
I am not sure if buying a house is more complicated
- only 2 parties vs at least 3 ( 2 clubs and a player )
- survey = medical
- both involved agents
- insurance for both
- no sell on clauses
- no FFP
- no bonuses
- no wage structure to worry about

Regardless for most of us it is certainly less money

The third party would be a mortgage lender unless you're paying cash. I'm sure it seems very simple from your perspective, but behind the scenes your lawyer is checking all manner of things like whether there's any radon at the site and whether you've a historical obligation to contribute to the upkeep of local churches. No sell-on clauses, FFP.... but 100+ other things I could list here. And for the parties it's proportionately far more money.

Generally, if you buy a house in Fulham it doesn't fall down 6 months later with opening a door the wrong way, but Mawson's knee can fall apart with the lacing of his boots the wrong way. There is also psycological issues such as Seri's influence on the dressing room and Antonee Robinson's disruption of the wage structure.

The other issue is the buying of players "involves five parties" including the media and the fans. In 2018, Fulham spent £120 poorly according to the media, but no one knew Bournemouth spent £94m in the same season until the accounts came out.

A strong case could be made that Tony Khan spent his £120m better than Eddie Howe spent his £94m despite what media reported at the time. Many of the clubs that people think spent well are just not being honest at the time and I have never seen anyone criticize a club when the real accounts come out 20 months after the players were bought.

Universities that have studied the average football clubs' accounts have found around 60% of the purchases were mistakes, but many clubs lead their fans to think they spent less than they did so think they are getting 70% correct. An example is MAF didn't even realize how much Tigana actually spent until near the time he sacked him, due to sell-on clauses, bonuses, and other things adding £7m to the expected costs.

Tony Khan is averaging around 60-70% mistakes, which is better than many other DOFs if they were honest about the costs. Tony Khan needs to improve a little to be an average DOF in terms of spending effectively but not near as much as many think.

If he spends £80m this season spread over time (such as preseason, the start of the season, summer deadline day, winter transfer window open and winter deadline day) with only some of the purchases being good signings and the rest providing something, it may be enough to scrap a 17th position, especially if Leeds and WBA aren't smart with their purchases.

Bournemouth had a host of injuries throughout the season. You could argue that they lacked depth.
