Captain Ream? Tim Ream Appreciation Thread.

All,

If there has been an ever present in our Fulham squad, who quietly goes about his career game after game, season after season, without making a fuss - it's Tim Ream. He may not be the fastest, he may not be the most technically gifted, and he surely doesn't score many goals - but my word at 33, Tim is still playing for the USMNT and just won a trophy this summer. Moreover, he has spent the majority of his club playing career with Fulham (see below). Is a contender for Captain this year?

No matter what any of us think about Tim...I just wanted to start a quick Appreciation Thread for him. What an outstanding steward for our club - through good and bad times. Thank you Tim since joining 2015! I hope he hit's his 200 game mark for the Cottagers here shortly :)

Tim Ream Club Stats.
2008–2009   Chicago Fire Premier   19
2010–2011   New York Red Bulls   58
2012–2015   Bolton Wanderers   114
2015–   Fulham   184
Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".
My response, "Well, lad, you just haven't seen the light yet"

Black, White and Fred

Think he was great today, but last championship season he was caught out a fair few times.
Charlton are probably about the level of a a lower half championship team which is where his level is probably at now. With that said would be more than happy for him to prove me wrong against better teams this season.

Played well with Tosin thought Robinson was not up for it today though

Ream was a rock today and is usually like that imo
Ok not Prem but deffo in the champ

RaySmith

 Agree with the OP.

Carried on from where he left off last season  away to Man U.

It's time we moved on. Tim Ream is not the answer. He has too many mistakes in his game. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate his commitment and all he has given.  Who can forget 2018 and the 23 game run. We need to look to the future and cement a CB partnership that we can take back to the Prem.

Didn't see any mistakes today?

Maybe not. I didn't watch the game. Cast you mind back to the season before last.

Oh, come on. Yes, we got promoted with him despite everything. We hardly set the league alight. Granted that had a lot to do with the style of play. Do you seriously think Ream is the answer ?

Another one that gets a lot of abuse for some unknown reason but I think Tim is still more then capable

TBF I understand your initial response, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I think Tim rightfully has a place in our squad this season so long as he can maintain his "rock" status of us. He's a seasoned, weathered pro who has gotten us promoted twice. Is he the future? By no means. Is he the present and a vital member of the squad over a long season with much more to give? Yes he is. Look at that bloke winning a Euro with Italy and playing in the Italian league until 36-37. Is that Ream? Probably not, but he just needs to adapt his game as he ages... he's still a solid championship player.

He has been terrific for us and I would be more than happy with him at left centre back this season. He can definitely do a good job for us there in the championship. If we are looking to cement a partnership this season for a return to the Premiership next season then we need to look at alternatives. In the latter scenario he would be great cover in the event of injuries. Whatever people think he should be treated with respect and dignity- as should all of our players when we are discussing them on these threads.

Charlton are a League 1 team.

Ridiculous that he gets so much stick from Twitter morons. He was perfectly decent when he featured for us last season, particularly in the cup and at Man U. Even at the start of the season he was leagues better than Odoi and Hector. At 33 he remains better than both of them and I suspect he will get the nod from Silva to start alongside Tosin this season.

I love Ream, lovely guy, done so much for the club. Do I think he's a championship quality CB? No. But come August 8th, if Silva picks him in his starting line up. I'll be shocked but I'll also come to terms with the fact that it must be me who's wrong, if SJ, SP, MS etc. Keep picking him

I completely agree.

I appreciate his loyalty to the club and his composure and expertise but whilst he has been a reliable player for us in the past he's just not as reliable now and we need to start looking past him to a future.

I think we need to be looking at a younger captain who may relish the opportunity and still has a lot to prove and gain, someone like tosin in the near future (don't think hes ready now). I appreciate ream had a captains sensibilities and a good head on his shoulder but so do others in the squad and there's only one captain place. He can be just as effective without being an official captain, which comes with certain on field pressures and extra scrutiny which I don't think he'll stand up to as easily this season. Also, with the likes of tosin, kongolo and mawson - all younger and with more to offer long term I think we may start to see him play less.

Spot on

FulhamStu

Bottom line, played really well well today and was cool calm on the ball as always and defended very well.
