Quote from: Angus Telford on July 19, 2024, 10:45:33 PMGiving TK credit for Tobido and Zirkee is a bit generous, surely it shows how silly we were not to cough up the asking price for those players. If Brentford come along and sign Andre for £30m because we're still making silly others around £20m, and he then has a fantastic season for them, that would reflect poorly on us rather than positively.

Todibo didn't want to come IIRC. The fee and wages weren't an issue.

We tried to switch it to a loan at the last minute, but Barcelona wanted a sale.

If the sporting press accounts are to be believed.

Except he went on loan to Benfica that window.

https://www.hitc.com/report-fulham-target-rejected-16m-cottagers-move-his-club-arent-happy/

I dont claim to know the intricacies but it was very widely reported that Barcelona wanted to raise funds from sales that summer, and the transfer dragged on because we were insisting on a loan/conditional deal.

I mean, the fact we were ultimately beaten to the signing by Benfica is in know way a mitigating factor, just more of an embarrassment for a PL club.

IIRC it was a generally embarrassing summer - when TK tweeted excuses for all our CB deals falling through such as failed covid tests.

It was not widely reported that that was the case...in fact when you google Fulham loan tobido all the articles that come up say we agreed a fee for a permanent move with little to no mention of loan rumours. I had to look deeper to find 1 random article from "football insider" that you are referring to and even that predates the one I linked above stating that Barcelona wanted the funds, and we agreed a deal - but reported that Tobido was the one who turned the club down and he moved, clearly, in favour of Benfica - a Champions league club. How is that an embarrassment - god you really do live for the negative slant.
Benfica and champs league footy for a year on loan - or newly promoted Fulham under Scott Parker....and to add to this being the likelihood - Even now this season its seemingly happening again with TObido - reports that Nice are trying to force the player to join West Ham where they got a good fee- but the player is refusing because he wants to go to Juventus, further reports today the deals collapsed - I guess that's an "embarrassment" too for them (or just how it goes sometimes)  :
https://www.hammers.news/transfer-news/club-furious-with-star-as-they-try-to-force-him-to-join-west-ham-in-new-jean-clair-todibo-talks/
https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-move-for-jean-clair-todibo-collapses-sources/

What is widely reported across multiple respected sources is that we agreed a fee with Barcelona for 18m and were working hard to convince the player but ultimately we found out that he didn't want to come.

Covid was a thing, it caused a lot of disruption all over the place at the time, In the end - we signed Anderson on bargain fee who is now a mainstay at Palace and brilliant for us (our issue that year wasn't our defence but ability to get an attack working -often led by Cavaliero over Mitro, thanks Scott) so again, the whole point of all this was actually about our ability to identify player talent and our scouting network - now its being dragged into something else that wasn't the point.

Quote from: Angus Telford on July 20, 2024, 11:49:47 AMAlright mate, you win. We cannot possibly compete with the likes of Benfica and Shamrock FC who are in the Champions League. All the reports in recent years about Barcelona being strapped for cash are wrong. The 2020/21 season was a huge success, not least because of our fantastic transfer business that year led by TK. Relegation was unfortunate but inevitable because of covid. And TK deserves credit not only for the players we sign, but also the players we're linked with (except the crap ones) because obviously, it's not really relevant whether they actually end up playing for Fulham.  ::thumb::  ::thumb::

What on earth is this dramatic wobbly about, honestly
Full on toys out the pram tantrum. Listen, for some reason you jumped in on something that wasn't even being said and made it, as so often, an argument about a whole load of extra stuff away from the point being made. Literally all that we were talking about there was the scouting network and our ability to identify good players. Even Explicitly saying "SAY WHAT YOU WANT ABOUT NEGOTIATION" Thats it, but somehow, in something that's become quite a talent, you've made it about all kinds of other things.

1. What sort of reasonable starting point to compare Shamrock rovers to Benfica???  :slap: How can one take serious the rest of ones position when this as the start-off point. No one even said anything about us not being able to compete generally? Just that one can understand in that instance why a player might favour the deal and destination he chose-  which was the point being made...and that there's clearly a history of it as he's trying to do it with West Ham currently in favour of Juventus. For some players they might favour the prem, for others they might favour the idea of European football at a reputable European club in a league far bigger than the Irish (?!) - competing for trophies, over a likely relegation scrap managed by scott parker, even if it's in the prem. That shouldn't be that hard to understand or controversial and certainly has naff all to do with Shamrock rovers.

2. No one remotely disputed anything about Barcelona's financial situation what are you on about??  :slap: Barca wanted the deal with us? yes, I literally agreed, as do all the articles - they wanted the money and we agreed a fee - they wanted the deal.  No one said any different in this thread or in the articles I linked-   the point was that the player didn't so what are you going about?

3. Relegation was unfortunate because of Covid? What? Yes thanks thats exactly what I was insinuating, obviously  🙈

4. No one even said TK alone?? Why have you made it about your favourite thing to do again. We were discussing our scouting network, sure, of which TK is a part but we also have his data team and our scouts + manager input.

5. No one said that window was a huge success here?? I just said we ended up identifying Anderson on a bargain deal instead of Tobido and turns out he was very good...Again, purely a point about ability to identify talent.

6.  Again no one was claiming TK needs some insane credit for unsigned players? stay on point, this was directly talking to a point about scouting network and our ability (or accused lack there of) to identify young talent, which was why Tobido and Zirkzee were brought up *additionally*. The point there was only that the issue is not that we don't have a good scouting network, because clearly we've signed and tried to sign many talented players young and otherwise over the years. Thats where this conversation began before you pounced in as ever bubbling for a conflict at every chance.

no need for another disingenuous, knee-jerk, unhinged paddy, when all the point being made was about one simple thing completely unrelated to your rant.

Judging from the reports shared on this thread, I'm still confident on Andre, we still very much appear to be in the driver's seat, with just details being agreed.

I am a lot more nervous about ESR though. Glasner made such an impact for the second half season at Palace, can see them doing well and being able to sell a decent project. And they can point to nurturing or selling players of a similar profile (Olise, Eze, even Saha etc.) Apparently ESR grew up in South London too.

Have to say I'm getting caught in the hype and would prefer us to wrap it up - good thing I'm not in charge of our transfer budget!  :slap:

Yeh id love to have em both too but the price is getting steep. ESR may well be worth that in terms of talent in the long run but I do also conceed that palace have alot going for them too atm and itll be interesting to see how it pans out. Either way lets hope we get one through the door 🙏🏼

I think a confirmation message  on my phone is the best way to go now.The speculation is becoming farcical now.

Birmingham apparently want to loan Harris while Fulham would prefer he goes to a Championship club.

Don't think Birmingham would be a terrible place to end up, but would be good if Harris got to play against better opposition.

Yeh agree after the mess of last season for stansfield there id rather somewhere else, amd he should be testing himself in the championship ideally.

I suppose if brum were challenging for promotion in league 1 its not terrible but they were a basket case last year

Fulham 'in talks' with Sheffield United over key figure after £15m bid knocked back

Fulham are reportedly in talks with Sheffield United over midfielder Vinicius Souza.
The 25-year-old only joined the Blades last year, suffering relegation to the Championship in his maiden Premier League campaign. He was among the side's stronger performers in a dismal season, appearing in all but two of their Premier League fixtures.

However, it appears Sheffield United could potentially lose the former Brazil youth international. According to transfers reporter Rudy Galetti, Fulham have engaged the Blades in talks.

A bid worth €18m (£15m) is thought to have been rejected, although the Cottagers are believed to be preparing another offer. Italian giants AC Milan have also been credited with interest in Souza, who the Blades signed from Lommel.

Quote from: howitis on July 20, 2024, 10:22:11 AMConcerned that we are not being linked with a centre forward. Jury still out on Muniz, stansfield yet to cut it at this level (possibly not orthodox striker) and Jiminez probably coming to the end of his days in top flight football.
A pacey number 9 is critical ...
Also will be gutted if pereira leaves. One of the few on this board who really appreciates what he brings to our team and extremely hard to replace is pressing, movement , dead ball qualities and brilliant interplay. We needed to be replacing lukic and Reed ...

I'd like a new striker but just can't see that we will be doing it this summer. Trying to buy big on 5 positions aside from striker which from fees being banded about is prob going to cost around £120m. Although we should have a lot of FFP room not enough to then go and but a striker on top that improves us. We do have 3 very decent options. I believe Raul has one year left with a year option. If we fill the positions we are looking at this year I wouldn't be surprised if we let Raul go next year removing his big salary and then going big on a striker to compete with Muniz and Stansfield (unless both absolutely fly this year).

I too think AP doesn't get enough credit for what he does well because of failings to score more, wasteful passes/shots, etc. Stats wise he is right up there for chances created from both open play and set pieces, key passes and assists on top of defensive work. Think we'll realise how much we miss him when he's gone. Got to say however that if Chelsea come with £35 to £40 million we probably have to sell at his age and with the limitations he does have in a few areas. Feel far more comfortable doing that if we already had 3 of the other main positions filled however!!
Not getting a new striker is really risky imo. We are not overly blessed with natural goalscorers in the squad and the jury is still out on whether Muniz is good enough to being a consistent goalscorer in the prem. Raúl has proven he is not and Stansfield likely isnt there just yet, at least not on a consistent basis

But it all depends on the market I guess. Getting a good solid striker is hard to do, but it will be even harder in the January window if Muniz isnt scoring enough.

Finnans Right Peg

Think a new striker will come in put could be a free or a loan and will probably have to shift vini first

Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".
My response, "Well, lad, you just haven't seen the light yet"

As this is a silly thread, let me put this to everyone; if we got Ivan Toney and Andre this window and no one else would you take it?

If no, would you accept Ivan Toney, André and ESR and no one else this window?

Yes, it's not going to happen, but many on here think we'll spend close to £100m, those three players won't be far off that amount- probably £110m ish.
