Quote from: jayffc on July 27, 2024, 01:36:54 PMYeh I think we're pretty well covered there as you say, but I do like the link to Oosterwolde (though don't know how much truth is in it). More so because it would provide a LCB and LB in one which would do the trick as I think it could be time to look at who replaces Ream going forwards.

I too see Sess as way better LW than LWB though so do think a LCB/LB like Morato or Oosterwolde seem a good shout. I agree that there are bigger priorities though for sure.
That would make sense if Ream leaves imo. We don't really need 3 left sided centrebacks. A left winger(ESR?), a dm/cm(Andre) and a right centreback are an absolute necessity. Everything else is a bonus,in my opinion anyway.

oh buddy it's all good just trying to discuss transfers and move on from that unnecessary detour. haha!

So what do ya think of Costa? Anyone know anything about him at all, literally never heard of him

He recently upgraded his yacht but it's kept the same name, Kismet. Someone should have a butchers and see if it's there, that'll give us an indication as to whether he's staying here or was just passing through.

It is an absolutely beautiful creation too.

Surely with them getting a replacement in this isn't the case. The never ending saga.
this I would be surprised if it happens.if it does then great,ESR a RCB Willian re signing I will be happy.

We need a DM and maybe even another CM. It's one of our weakest areas on the pitch now alongside LB and RCB. You can't lose Palhinha and expect us to do better. Even if Lukic has a good season you're struggling to find a decent partner for him and if one gets injured then you're severely lacking/found wanting in an area and league you simply can't be.

It's clear we're going for a DM in andré or mctominay and others being mooted.

How do you figure that LB is weak? We have one of the best LBs in the league, and then Sess, Castagne, Ream and Bassey that can play there.

Ream is ageing and rumours of going to the U.S, he's not versatile enough to play LB in a back four - realise this is an opinion... lol.

Sessegnon has genuinely not played a game in a year and a half or longer and is a long term injury concern. He may be fit now, and I hope he stays fit and thrives, but it's acknowledging that there's a chance he simply may not be fit this season. I also see him more as a LW than LB, though acknowledge he can play both IF fit. That's a big if based on a large chunk of his last 4 or so years as a professional. Look up his injury record vs playing time on transfrmrkt.

Bassey may well be a decent option at LB, but I don't think Ream is as solid and I think he's at the end of his career. In an ideal situation Bassey us for me our starting LCB.. which means he's not playing two positions at once.. unless Marco reverts to a back three. Which he is unlikely to do. In that case then, he's not an option.

Leaving just Robinson as a reliable LB option and a very good one at that.

So, if Robinson gets injured and Sessegnon maintains his injury record, which is a legitimate concern and risk, then we have very little long term options there.

Marco likes versatile players, which is great.. and we'll do well with that.. and it could make the Sessegnon and ESR signings make a lot of sense..

But for me, it makes sense to get in another LB.

What about Castagne? He's played numerous times on the left and is more or less as good on the left as he is on the right. Robinson is extremely fit and rarely has cards problems. Last season he started all but one PL game. Unless something drasticaly changes with Robinson's fitness, I doubt someone will have to fill in for more than 2-3 games. Unless Tete is injured that would be Castagne with Tete at rb. If he's injured than Bassey would be an adequate replacement, he played there multiple tikmes in his career. I find it highly unlikely that Robinson, Castagne and Bassey will all be out at the same time, but if there are surely Sess can do okay for a game or two, we did fine with BDR at rightback in a few games two seasons ago.

All in all, I am in the group that believe we don't need a new leftback now. Maybe if we get everything we need and then get a new leftback on deadline day.

Anyone worth having for LB behind Robinson at this point is either too expensive or wouldn't want to come due to the playing situation. I am sure the club feel the best bet is to wait until the end of the window for Ballo-Toure or someone similar to become available.

The Arsenal player has agreed to the Cottagers, while Arsenal have already accepted Fulham's offer.

A few details to refine to conclude the signing."

It also says...."Les Cottagers sont prêt à faire une très belle offre à Arsenal pour le joueur." Which to me means "The Cottagers are ready to make a very nice offer to Arsenal for the player. Doesn't sound like a done deal to me.

The one you're quoting is from the 11th of July. The more recent one says that it is a done deal.

The lad is named Emile, maybe that is where the french connection is.

Just one last post on this before I leave it. I want the club to thrive. Only ever have. To thrive though you need to have some ability to be critical of yourself in an accurate way, self reflection done acutely gets rid of noise and allows for a clear focus on things that matter. I have always found TK to be a distraction to the club. I think Shahid is great. I'm not alone in that. I believe, if anyone can be bothered to go through my posts historically they'll see a lot of correlations between what I've written above and what I've said. Anyway, it's become clear that there are a couple of people who don't get that, which is fine. I just understand the audience a bit better.

Meanwhile on the transfer front. Noticed another tabloid or press piece saying that a deal and the final details are awaiting to be finalised but giving a clear indication of how the deal will be structured which suggests there's some clarity. Perhaps a deal must be close.

Tremendous long balls but can he pass sideways and backwards?

Now bring Matt O'Reilly back, has scored for Celtic V Chelsea, and taking pee out of some of them, Celtic 2-0 up by way

that's positive at least we know as fans it's more likely to go through than not that's the main thing.

A lot of the Arsenal fan twittersphere are also suggesting today that we've apparently agreed personal terms with ESR now. Obviously to be taken with a pinch of salt. But again positive noise in the right direction which suggests it being all good with ESR himself which adds to the firmer details on structure of the deal. Sounds like most things are ironed out if you believe both sources, so either it's not and made up (probably true), or there's smoke and it's legitimate and we're closer to making it official. Could be over the weekend/early next week if true.

As someone else suggested, if ESR is in the U.S, a potential medical and signing of contract could be done there before a reveal here.. similar to Muniz who I believe was signed and announced whilst he was in Portugal.
