Quote from: DM on August 05, 2024, 10:08:41 AMFulham haven't given up on André yet. There is confidence that the deal will get done by the end of the window.

Talks with Villa will continue this week for Diego Carlos. Fulham believe a deal can be done before they play Man Utd.

Mctimonay is proving to be a bit tougher than expected. The player although open to the move still isn't convinced & Man Utd could hold out until after Fulham play them.

Please stop changing your username and posting fake itk news. Weird behaviour.

We've all got the receipts of the Moise Kean and fake news you spread last summer.
I don't really understand why people get so annoyed by this. It is the Silly Season thread, it is full of speculation and nonsense. You can either take what posters say as gospel (very unlikely), enjoy it as the "gossip" it is or ignore it completely.

You don't need to continually call people out, just scroll on. I for one  enjoy it all. (Except all the quote on quote on quote, which takes up pages!)

Fair enough, I think it's weird people would mislead with clearly fabricated insider knowledge

Always the same people defending the fake ITKs, makes you wonder.

Well judging by the amount of likes Cravenette's post got that suggests 19 ITKs on this forum alone!

No wonder these threads go into the hundreds of pages each year!  :slap:

I bet we'll be pretty good this year even if we don't replace Palhinha directly. And I still reckon the Andre transfer won't happen.

Today's game showed once again that we definitely need another rcb and another dm/cm at the very least. Diop was the only player that had to start both games and I think that was the main reason why he was noticeably worse today than against Benfica. King and, even more so, Pajaziti showed they aren't ready for this season in the PL. Reed, Lukic and Cairney did an okay enough job, but we need another player for those two more defensive positions. Let's get those two players in asap and then some more signings later on if needed and if a good opportunity arises.

100% this. We are a top class RCB and DM away from having a top quality team. Slightly concerned about Sess at left back but we've got any one of cuenca, Bassey or Timmy if we feel he's not up to it so not an issue. The youngsters definitely don't look ready and need loans.

Yeh I really thought we'd sign Sess for further forward given I thought we worked that out already before. Why we're repeating that mistake I'm a bit baffled by. Would rather have had Ballo Toure with Sess as LW depth personally.

Be fuming if this happens. Maybe it will push us to move things forward but if they are in we'll lose. I suspect United are looking for a proven finished article in Europe which is prob why they and others haven't been in for Andre but this is the risk we've been taking if I am wrong.

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 06, 2024, 12:02:10 AMWe need to stop congratulating ourselves over that one good signing and realise that we've wasted most of the window messing people around with these silly deferred payment proposals and have 70% of our business still to do.

May I ask about these 'silly deferred payment proposals'? Is it a fact this is the stumbling block to our signing Andre? (I presume this is the transfer at which your remark is aimed.) Or is it speculation that in your opinion is the most likely reason? I ask because, a couple of days ago, you were arguing we shouldn't be stalling over a difference in valuation. I am wondering what is the evidence that has led you to change your mind.

must be great to know what's going on behind the scenes .
I think it's looking like a very promising window so far, with certainly more to come .When are people going to start having a bit of faith in the club. Looks like they are doing pretty good job to me , and aren't getting pushed around by anybody!!

Agreed, fuming.
This window is on a knife edge.
Lots of promising links but with Palhinha, Tosin and Willian gone and only the latter replaced (not to mention Ream, Reid and FBT) as it stands we're weaker than we were last year, and we were worse last year than the year before that.
All this optimism is mindless unless/until we get 2-3 more heavyweight, ESR-level signings over the line.
Any more new additions will already be joining with no pre-season, any longer and they'll be missing games.
We need to stop congratulating ourselves over that one good signing and realise that we've wasted most of the window messing people around with these silly deferred payment proposals and have 70% of our business still to do.

I think the Andre signing is quite high stakes for us this year. Love the squad but we badly need a player who can play us out of the defensive third.

Quote from: LVBPTS on August 05, 2024, 04:31:31 PMmay be worth to note, PSG have just announced Neves, freeing up Ugarte to Man Utd, making McTominy surplus to requirements?

Surely Ugarte is a replacement for Casemiro who is rumoured to be on his way out?
Casemiro rumors has gone a bit cold from what Ive seen. Hes a lot harder to sell due to wages and that he has a longer contract than McT, and the profit wont be as great for Man U as it would be if they sell McT

DM

André to Utd is just his agent trying to squeeze Fulham into coming back to the table.
Utd although having an interest are not currently persuing any deal with Fluminense.

Couldn't Andreas play the Andre role now ESR has arrived?

Totally agree.

I'm surprised at the posts claiming we need to sign two players as replacements for Joao. Why? We can only play one player in his position.

If we sign Andre and McTominay or 2 alternatives, surely Reed has to leave to try and gain more minutes elsewhere. I like Reed, however, and only believe we need one replacement for DM.

That would leave us with Andre (or whoever), Lukic, Reed, Cairney, Iwobi, Pereira and ESR who can all compete for the respective DM, CM and AM roles.

Seven players for 3 positions whilst  ESR and Iwobi will also be options for LW and RW respectively along with Traore, Wilson, Stansfield (if he stays) and even Sess at LW in front of Jedi. Stansfield could also play the 10 as an option.

We have a plethora of options already in the squad so unless Stansfield and or Reed depart I just don't see how we need two replacements for Joao.

I think a DM and RCB with no further outgoings (other than loans for U21s) and we're there.

The fact that the whole summer we have been linked with mostly midfields, central midfielders, should be a sign that we arent just in for one. It would make no sense for us to be into a deep negotiations with Fluminese as well as launching bids for McTominay, Souza and Ricci. One of the more trusted Fulham journos said that we are in for both André AND McTominay, and I see no reason to doubt that considering the constant rumors flying about around McTominay. So we are deffo getting two more central midfielders.

Right now for our central midfield (as some would like to define as DM/CM) we have Reed, Lukic and TC. TC is not a natural defensive minded player the same way Reed is or even as well rounded as Lukic is. TC doesnt really fit in with how Marco likes his midfield to be set up and TV havent really fitted into our nr 10 spot or the 8, and whenever he has come on there has been some changes in the midfield duties. He has managed to do well despite this.

With that being said, Marco prefers two players on each position, you can already see that we are in fact two players short with only Reed and Lukic as our more balanced midfielders. TC as mentioned is not an option for competing for one of those positions behind the 10.

The reason why things are being somewhat confusing is people are on about DM or CM and are very categorical about it as in "André is a X not a Y, McTominay is a Y and not an X". When in fact, they can both play in both positions but when they do, they will offer different things.

André puts tackles in, but he seems to be more of a player who intercepts passes through his positioning and reading of the game rather than brute force. Him playing as a DM, a lone pivot, means that he wont be like Palhinha, but he can still offer defensive coverage and will - in theory - offer an outlet for CBs to play out the back and then he can through his passing and technique beat the opps pressing.

André is however not a physical beast, so adding steel to our midfield is necessary since thats something that will likely be missed without Palhinha. This is where McTominay comes in. He can play in a deeper role, such as a lone pivot, since he is a fundamentaly a defensive minded player and has done so before at Man U. He however excels when he can make late runs into the box and scoring goals as seen by him scoring 10 goals for a poor Man U side.

So not only would signing McT and André be upgrades in terms of that they would likely improve our midfield through their sheer individual quality, they would also add the necessary depth and offer us more tactical versatility. Palhinha was the best DM, hands down, but he offered little to no versatility in those terms - which was okay since he was the best at what he did.

Don't understand why you are winding yourselves up based on ray making a throwaway doom post.

There are no current links between United and Andre. If you have any feel free to share but there is no need to work yourselves up about a scenario you made up yourself.

Rambler

If we get André and mctominay we really do have a class midfield.
I'd be open to selling periera and putting ESR in the 10 position and look for an out an out left winger.
Then we need a RCB. Then I think we're done.

You do realise Andre does exactly what you say we badly need? It's his exact role. He takes the ball in tight spaces and under pressure, alleviating the pressure and then plays progressive forward passes. He is literally the perfect style of player we need.
