Summer Silly Season Transfer Thread 2024

I think he will stay as we need some continuity but I'm not that confident in Diop as a no 2 RCB. He makes far too many mistakes for me, interesting to see the fanbase seems pretty comfortable with him as an option in spite of this. Let's see, maybe he'll prove me wrong.

Also felt a similar way about Reed before the summer, but now feel he has to stay for dressing room continuity and leadership as Ream, BDR have both gone.

Stay clear of this type of betting market! Very volatile and bookmakers know it. Does not need significant money to see a player or manager suddenly be a short price jolly?
The Pros will look to have a player shortened so as they can get the value on the player who they know who he is signing for! Looking at those odds 4/1 Everton would be the one I would fancy? The giveaway might be what price was he last week to sign for FFC? If he was odds against there might be something in it that he is such a short price now?

I think he's a better number 2 CB than many teams have in this league and has been a starter for us in a team that managed to finish 10th alongside Ream to be fair.

Many defenders in this league are capable of momentary blunders in a game - not least Tosin, who has a similar amount of lapses himself, but generally Diops been pretty good for us on the whole outside of those. So I don't think it's a case of thinking he's the best we can do in the long term - but he's a mid-prem level player currently that should be coming into his prime... so I don't think he needs replacing as our backup CB just yet with Luc DF also coming through in the next couple years too.

Diego Carlos looks a smarter upgrade on him and I'd be plenty happy with that. Was a starter for a team that managed a Champions League finish so we could certainly do a lot worse.

Mullers OG

Diego Carlos and Phillips.  These would be amazing signings if we can get them at a decent price.  Carlos would be a significant upgrade at RCB.  Phillips would be a bit of a gamble but with Silva's ability to get the best out of players in a rut he could also be a star.  Phillips back to his Leeds and England form would shine at the Cottage.

Price in both cases an issue.  The club has so far been careful with the funds.  People who simply demand paying huge fees for players need to remember its not their money being spent.  The fact that the club might have available cash (assuming it has) doesn't mean it should be frittered away paying over the odds.

The timing of that is interesting for Andersen because the Fulham transfer account has tweeted some emojis suggesting that Diego Carlos is done. So either we want two RCB's or they're not as ITk as they think they are

No idea why Palace would sell Andersen, especially with Guehi on his way out. Strange bid all around.

Lemina from Wolves too then & with Anderson we have players we could not hold onto due to Parker's incompetence & solve DM & RCB  ::wink::

I guess everyone has a price, and £40m is too much for Andersen I think, but if it was done for £27m or something in that range, it'd be amazing biz for us.

Top GK, CHs and full backs would go a long way to overcoming weaknesses at DCM.

Agree, can't see Andersen being let go. I do love Andersen, would be a huge upgrade on Tosin. Whether we want to spend 40m on an RCB in his prime and no real resale value is a different question.

Diego Carlos is a solid signing. Still hopeful Andre is completed by the end of the window, that has always been the plan. Keep the faith, we are having a good window imo

FFC1987

I like Andersen, but I'd a bit dubious even at £20m+. He started to look really leggy and slow at the backend of last season. He also had a really doozy of a mistake in one of Palaces pre season games where his legs just gave out under him and they tapped into an open net. Not that we read much into those games obviously, but I'm not sure he's the same player that left us.

As always, if that's the player that Silva wants then I'll be politely shut up  :slap:  ::scarf::

Quote from: Whitestone on August 11, 2024, 08:13:20 AMI'd say we lost three regular starters in Tosin, Palhinha and Willian.

However you dress it up, this is the objective reality.

Only so if Willian would still be a regular starter.

Holy hell
Now THIS is one I would LOVE but as others have stated I can't see it happening. Cost wise it just doesn't make sense, Palace saying 40m is basically just saying , we don't want to sell at all...and Palace are already being decimated this summer it seems. Looks like we'd probably need to spend minumum £27.5 with addons up to low 30s to make it happen.

Suspect we'll just be leveraging such potential deals in negotiations to show we're interested in other players but interested to know we looked at this deal none the less.

We wouldn't offer what they want money wise but Anderson and Bassey would be dream land for me.

What about Andersen and Cuenca?

I'd be surprised if we got this one done, £40m os excessive and £20m whilst fair, is too little for CPFC.

Surprised Andersen is still only 28. Thought he'd have been older than that by now.

Craven Mad

I wonder if Andersen has concerns about Palace's departures, and may be trying to push through an exit.

He seemed to enjoy his time with us, and he'd be able to stay in the capital, so a return to us doesn't seem impossible.

As others have said, something between £20m-£27m doesn't seem unreasonable in this (crazy) market...

Would be pretty great to have him back; exactly the profile we need!

Quote from: AshfordFFC on August 11, 2024, 09:03:31 AMpersonally, I dont think Willian is a great loss (which may ignite some opinion I know) however, whilst he was quality in season 1 and the start of season 2 in our new PL session, he tailed off and I have seen every match we played last season and suffice to say, IMHO he was more a hinderence to us.    Rethink / rewatch any of the last quater of matches and you can clearly see he lost his mojo.

'Hindrance' is a bit strong for me, but otherwise I agree. If he were still here, I don't think we'd be seeing the Willian of two seasons ago. He may have proved to be a useful player to bring off the bench this season, but I don't believe he would have commanded a regular place in the starting XI.

Interesting, I'd snap your hand off at 20m to be honest. He's one of the best ball playing CB's I've seen at Fulham and I think he's got a fair few great years left in him at 28 years old. And as ya acknowledge all CB's have bad games or moments here and there...Palace mates love him.

All a game of opinions though ay.

Would on paper be amazing in terms of passing out from the back. But would prefer Basseys physicality and pace, if we have Anderson I would rather we have recovery pace next to him.

Lemina yes Andersen not sure he's lack of pace worries me.
