Man utd just signed 25 year old De Ligt for 38m (not incl add-ons)

Really think our offer for joachim is perfectly reasonable all things considered

I'm definitely pro Andersen but I have to say De Ligt is a few years younger and has won titles in Europe's biggest leagues.

The price he's going for looks better value than what we're proposing for a very good Prem player who's only ever played midtable and couldn't make the Lyon team starting XI

Yeh I was saying I think were offering a very reasonable fee that certainly isnt insulting given the market.

De Ligt hasnt really hit the early ajax wonderkid heights that was projected for him at Juve and Bayern but still a well rated CB so not a horrendous deal for Utd.

Lets see how the saga plays out. If im palace and I can get that money in and do a loan with option to buy deal as rumoured on chalobah (if hes happy to go there as he seemingly wasnt to us)... I probably take that offer and see how it goes for a year with trevoh

I'd be fascinated to hear why Chalobah would (supposedly) reject us and go to Palace - I'd have thought we're similarish propositions atm

Maybe Chalobah really is a fan and doesn't want to head to West London Derby rivals  ::wink::

So would I but that's just what was reported earlier in the window (could have been nonsense but we do seem to have cooled our interest in him since) perhaps he thought hed get bigger offers. Perhaps its recency bias on their last season, perhaps being chelsea academy or seeing his brothers experience here he doesn't fancy it... personal preferance or view of the size of the club's.

ESR seemed to favour us over them but much of a muchness.

Don't think the choices of chalabah(probably because fans weren't happy with his brother not keen)The Aston Villa player too old on big wages no return. The palace player once loaned to fulham all seem panic buy's considering we had tosin for 5 years not much choice, only caution with the danish boy when at Fulham did not mix well with squad could be reason palace are interested that's what happened mababa late for training did not mix is very crucial and silva wasn't here then but Tony was beware he'll spend money like a kid with sweets that's while we haven't had returns previously.

His brother is probably a good shout - Nathaniel was never really at home or a key player here

Havent had returns recently?

Palhinha
Mitro
£100m

Its ok to buy a mixture of youth and players that can conwribute now for 4-5years with major resale if they improve the team now. If they do, you can finish higher, earn more for doing so and attract better young players you can flip along the way. Its about finding the balance and so far weve signed 3 players, all under 25.

Anderson very popular at palace, heard no reports of not fitting in well with people and never heard that about his time here either unless I missed something. We were just crap and uncohesive under parker.

Indeed. Even so, Palace are at liberty to be unreasonable and insist on more. This may still be our best option.

Exactly.

The big difference here is that: a) Palace want to keep Andersen (whereas Bayern were happy to get rid of De Ligt), and b) we're a rival to Palace (whereas Bayern don't even have to worry about playing Utd in the CL for the meantime).

For those reasons, Palace will demand a premium from us for Andersen, and comparing his headline price to the cut-price De Light deal is therefore a bit misleading...

It's the same reason that Chelsea were happy to let Gallagher move Ath Madrid for as little as ~£30m; they wanted MUCH more to sell him to a prem team.

I think that's only part of the picture. I'm sure Palace would be equally keen to demand a premium from e.g. Bayern is they were trying to sign Andersen, even though they won't play each other, much as we did with Palhinha. Bayern can afford to spend more, and to receive less on sales, whereas Palace have to make every sale of their leading players count. De Ligt was probably pushing to leave so they took what they could get. Andersen may be ok with the switch but he's not going to throw his toys out the pram, he'll be respectful.

FFC1987

I always thought Palace could pay higher wages than us which is why whenever we were both linked to a player (similar to Westham before Europe success) it was us on the back foot. Maybe that's changed.

I think perhaps the point of why I added
it for context has been missed?

I was just saying what weve offered is a perfectly reasonable fee given the context of his age and quality and what a quality CB is going for etc (as others had suggested they felt it was a low offer)

Now, palace might well reject it for the reasons stated, may hold out for more etc. But its not an unreasonable amount of money weve offered.

Possibly although supposedly ESR came here amidst interest there (will never know how far they got with their offers for him of course but it was rumoured they approached the player)

Id sell anderson

Keep guehi

Reinvest in a younger promising CB (like chalobah if he was willing to join)

Also if im chalobah I think maybe Im creating an oppurtunity to establish myself as the new england CB pairing playing alongside Guehi.

ESR may have only been on their radar in case they lost Eze, which they have not yet (but could still).

ffcthereligion

A defence of Leno castagne Andersen Bassey and Robinson might be the strongest we've ever had at the club. Tete and diop on the bench for a club like us is crazy strong!!

Yeh, I mean Silva and project pull asides, it was just thinking perhaps players prefer higher wages is all. Not a shoe that fits all of course. I don't even know if it's true in regards to wages but that was always my perception.

This is what i was thinking over night as well.

To sweeten Guehi as well give him a pay rise and a release clause higher than what you want now as if he continues as he is his value will go up. Player and club happy that way (maybe just looking at it from our side of things)

legana

Think it makes sense for Palace to sell Andersen now for 30m and keep Guehi, who should retain his value next season. They won't want to lose both at once. Could argue that Guehi may also be hoping for a bigger move than to Newcastle, who are not (currently) one of the 'big' teams. That video is strange though - Andersen is saying the right things but smirking as he possibly knows the move is likely to happen (Palace just waiting for us to bid as high as possible)?

hovewhite

Typical Fulham playing a game chess with clubs now, frustrating as a supporter isn't it.

Hatch007

I'm not frustrated. It's just sound business practice IMHO

Rarely is a business' opening offer the sum they are actually prepared to eventually pay

Suppose only if ya look at it short term (or dont trust the overall strategy of course) imo. These players are hopefully with you for at least 2-5 years + so for the sake of 3 games (2 against promoted teams) it seems to make business sense.

I take the view that strong negotiations that have and can potentially lead to significant saved money, can mean more budget that can make us stronger all round  in theong run - with additonal signings elsewhere, or improved bids for other top targets etc. And of course ensuring long term sustainability and compliance with regulations that means we shouldnt be threatened with points sanctions etc.

Of course I appreciate its possible you may miss targets if someone moves quicker or gazumps you but thats all part of the balancing act. The hope is it pays off more often than it loses. Heres hoping🤞🏼

b+w geezer

Just from that interview, one can imagine why Andersen irritates some. He was indeed reported to have done so here -- being parachuted in as captain doubtless ruffled some feathers for starters. And later, morale sank terribly in the last months of his spell, which may have been beyond his control, but doesn't advertise his leadership skills. If willing to pay a premium it would need to be for purely playing reasons.

We've been discussing those reasons in another place. There's no great sense of superiority over Diop in direct defensive engagement skills, it's more about two traits when in possession. His greater comfort on the ball  provides greater security against press and makes for easier advance away from positions of danger. This is visibly a bit of an issue with Diop and goals have been conceded arising from it.

The other advantage relates to the goals for column. Career average long balls per match (from whoscored.com) are: Diop 2. Tosin/Diego Silva 4. Andersen 5.7. Net of inaccuracies, that still means that a season of JA rather than ID yields over 100 more long raking passes for our speed-merchants to hare after. How many of those would result in goals? A fair few, given the quality now possessed in that neck of woods. And/or opponents would have to be that much more cautious in advancing on us.

How much is this on-the-ball factor worth paying for? The pros can be the judge, but extra for sure.
