Quote from: jayffc on August 18, 2024, 11:00:27 PMAs for Scott and Andre rumours, it does seem Marco isn't really looking at enforcer types which I find intriguing. Potentially want's to play a different way altogether rather than "replace" Palhinha (unless some outright bulldog DM surprises us) . But all the links have been to ball playing deep CMs or box to box types so god knows what Marco is planning. Will be intrueging to see it play out for sure
It could be a similar set up to the set up we used when Palhinha was suspended last season. With two players whose natural position is box to box midfielder (like Reed and Lukic were used last season). I think it could work, as we've actually done really well in those games, and some of them were very difficult on paper.

Yeah it definitely seems that way, I wonder if we will see Pereira in a deeper role more this season. Apparently it's what he was initially profiled to do for us with Fabio anticipated to be there in the 10, I read that somewhere this week.

Quote from: Drewry66 on August 18, 2024, 10:38:01 PMThought Andersen s passing was brilliant today. Palace just continually looked for him to quarter back everything. He was pinging long passes left right and centre and most hit the mark. So much better than what we have in that respect.

With their back 5 Glasner had him and Guehi pushing into midfield with and without the ball with crazy isolated presses. As soon as either were turned Brentford were away on the break. Doesn't play to Andersens lack of speed at all. Think he'd suit our system much better in a solid back 4 that sits in a shape. Please let this get done the next few days. Think he's just what we need. If £25m+£5m that doesn't have seem to have been rejected yet it's a great deal.

It's interesting, Andersen always had those passes in his locker.. I wonder, if Cuenca started a couple of games and swapped in for Bassey from time to time, you could have two very exciting and good passers of the ball, with Andersen doing the Quarter Back/long diagonal passes, and Cuenca playing line splitting passes like he did for ESR's first goal. Would be able to mix it up quite nicely and be a threat at a high end with both styles.

Not convinced we're in for/will sign Andersen, but the thought is a nice one to entertain.

Out of interest what makes you say you're not convinced we're in for Anderson given it was confirmed essentially by Anderson himself and Parish in Sky interviews? It seems we're  absolutely in for him with confirmed bids, wether we will sign him for sure is yet to see of course. Lacroix certainly adds fuel to the fire though

For me, any of the 3 options on the table look good tbh. Anderson, Gomez or Deigo Carlos all would be good additions. I loved Anderson here so perhaps that clouds my judgments as Im less familiar in terms of first hand experience of their ability, naturally, with the others. Seen different reports saying Gomez available for anything from £30-45m so who knows but think that likely a stretch too far for us.

In the meantime hope Diop keeps up the performances from Utd just like Muniz when we brought in Broja!

I think they are all decent options. Carlos does really worry me in the air in both boxes. Lost so much in that respect with Tosin and Joao gone (on top of Mitro the year before). Everyone going on about AP s corners on Friday but that whipped corner to the front post is what we've been doing for 3 years. Some of them were great deliveries but just don't have Mitro, Tosin or Joao attacking them. Gomez certainly wins a lot in the air defensively and Andersen in both boxes. Issues with Gomez is that all Liverpool fans seem to think he's much better as a full back, he has stinker games and potential injury issues although he been fine the last few years I believe. Reckon he'll be too expensive anyway. All about Andersen for me but just my opinion. Maybe I'm clouded by his time with us as I absolutely loves him for that one season as thought he was immense. I really hope it happens.

The thing is Andersen does both. He put a number of brilliant fast balls through on the deck today like the one Cuenca did in the pre season game. He then does sweeping passes on top. His pass completion stats are low but that is because he is constantly going for incredibly difficult passes. The ones that come off put you in and he does still have plenty that do come off. It looks like a massive strength of Cuenca as well and the two together could be ridiculous in that respect. They both have the same weakness however...pace. For that reason Bassey and Andersen could be perfect as Bassey has the pace but his passing is not as good.

Just to add it's his all round composure on the ball as well. He was stepping into midfield today and looked like a midfielder on the ball. Diop did brilliantly against Man U but he does look like Bambi on ice on the ball. Different levels if you ask me but I'd say Diop is probably a slightly better defender so depends what you need on the day,

Personally, I'm still not convinced that Andreas is suited for that number 8 role in our set up. In attack it looks fine to me, but defensively, his positioning is often very poor. That's a pretty big problem as Lukic (or Reed if he played instead of Lukic) isn't a defensive midfielder either, but more of a box to box midfielder and he isn't able to both do his defensive duties and help out Andreas when he makes a positioning or other defensive mistake. Palhinha or another world class defensive midfielder might be able to pick up his slack, but Lukic or Reed (or even midfielders we've  been linked to like Andre and McTominay) can't do that effectively. That's why I think two of Lukic/Reed/new dm(or cm) should play every game. Hell, even Cairney seems to be much better suited for the number 8 role, in my opinion.

I think Andersen and Gomez are improvements on Diop and I think Carlos is the cheaper option who is on par with Diop and allow us to spend money on other areas.

I always thought Diop was better than Tosin or at least on par to be honest.

Just had a quick google re Parish, didn't realise/see those before. I'd love us to sign Andersen don't get me wrong, but I just can't see it happening.. I think i'm just trying to temper my excitement about the possiblity tbh and nothing else.. I think it depends on them getting Lecroix in, not losing Guehi etc - there's lots of dominos involved for it to come off.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like him to come back to the club - really loved when he played for us and would make our defence pretty solid, especially if we get in a 6 like Andre, then we're 'cooking' as people say..

But just tempering expectations, Fulham are slow to make transfers happen, he seems key to palace, happy enough there.. he's still playing for them.. We've shown we're being a bit tight re transfer fees this summer (perhaps out of necessity, but we're haggling hard)..

This is the article I read re Andersen..

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cy8xp6jlgp1o#:~:text=Parish%20spoke%20about%20several%20other,at%20closer%20to%20%C2%A340m.

Parish spoke about several other Palace players, including Fulham's second offer for Guehi's central defensive partner Joachim Andersen, believed to be £25m plus £5m in add-ons.

Palace rejected Fulham's first bid of £20m on Monday, and value the Denmark international at closer to £40m.

"That's an interesting one because I can't imagine a situation where we would lose both of our centre-halves," Parish said.

"Again, Joachim, he's a special lad and very much at the heart of what we do. He's like our quarterback at the heart of that back three, a sensational footballer.

"We have got to sit and think about what is the right thing to do, what the players want to do. If both of them are still here at the end of the window I wouldn't be surprised."

My hope is Andersen actively wants the move back to Fulham and that sweetens the chances of us re-signing him.

It's interesting this. I actually thought AP and Lukic looked excellent together against United in the 'two 8's' kind of role. AP s passing was pretty good back there and first 20 he transitioned the ball well. It was when AP moved to 10 that he had a nightmare and that was more his passing in nose bleed territory which he wouldn't have been in as an 8.

We looked pretty solid first half. Their only major chances came from our own stuff ups and nothing to do with AP. I thought he and Lukic broke up play really well and AP had decent recovery pace as well. He did get nut megged second half for the Mount chance one on one but could have happened to anyone. It is by his own admission his more natural position and keeps him away from messing dangerous attacks up (as he regularly does as a 10). Everyone sees things differently I guess! I honestly doubt McT would be any better defensively and watching Andre not sure he has much better in the locker either to be fair.

AJW48361

I Reckon we should make a loan bid for Harvey Elliott just the player we need I think Slot may be prepared to let him go so he start regularly at a club.

Fulham 442

Apparently we're back in for McTominay...

If it is him, i agree. I was speculating.

For me we need someone who can play across the front 3. This is a fanciful suggestion and not likely at all to happen but Cheisa from Juve isn't wanted. Wages and fee will stop us but someone who can play in those positions like him would be nice

Whittaker isn't a bad shout to be fair can play wide on one side or through the middle. He had a decent season in the Championship last season playing in a struggling side.
