https://x.com/FulhamTransfer/status/1825618539514048657

Could work incredibly well with Lukic
Yes it does seem they compliment each other really well. Lukic is better at defensive stats and Berge at attacking stats (although both are kind of skewed because Lukic played as a dm which limited his attacking imput but improved his defensive stats).

With Andre rumours quieting down, and then McTominay rumours reappearing and now Berge seems like a done deal, it does seem to me like Marco doesn't want an orthodox (even Andre wasn't an orthodox dm) defensive midfielder, but rather another 8 alongside Lukic, Reed and Cairney. I'm guessing we'll play in a similar way we played when Palhinha was suspended and Lukic and Reed as two eights who basically switch positions throughout the match.

Yeah I think together they could work really well. Essentially two 8 s who can both defend really well. I'd still love Andre but perhaps this is it so we'll see.

So we're finally (seemingly) signing Berge, only been 2/2.5 years in the making.

From Marco comments it doesn't seem likely. Maybe we'll get someone on loan, but I think that big money signings will be a rcb and an attacking player, because those are the three players Marco mentioned we will get. Another midfielder, striker, 3rd goalkeeper, backup lb or whatever position we could potentially upgrade on will be deadline day loans or we won't get them at all.

Craven Mad

Very happy with Berge.

Tall, good passer, reads the game well and pops up in the right spot to score too.

He was voted both Burnley's players' and fans' player of the season last year.

A definite upgrade on what we have IMO. Really hope this happens.

This could have nought to do with what Marco wants?
We seem to be aiming lower and lower!

We were told we have been after Andre for 2 years fcs! I very rarely moan but blimey!

Maybe this means we'll finally sign Andre in a year  :slap:

Another signing from the PL (given where he played last two seasons).

Underlining again a very clear strategy from the club.

Berge is more of a proper DM so... In addition to Scott? Given MUFC valuation perhaps instead of? Different players though.

This would I assume take Andre completely out of the picture. No idea haha.

Either way it's gonna be a fun couple of weeks. Berge has been one we looked at a while back under Marco so perhaps he is indeed still keen on him as an option. What a ride ha

If he is a #6 then we have given up on Andre. If Andre is not sold before the Brazilian window is shut then they're going to have a really unhappy player.
I am hoping this happens didn't realise hes such a tall unit.

Why sign a player the manager has no interest in!?

Marco said he was part of the process, re signing players.

I didn't say he had no interest.
I'm saying he may have a list of preferences but we are now at the lower end of that list!

Quote from: SerbianLad on August 19, 2024, 08:56:49 PMOf course I'll welcome him and cheer him on and I hope he'll have a great career with Fulham, but I'm really underwhelmed with this signing, especially at that price. I don't think he's a bad player, but he's massively overrated in my opinion. 25 million also seems a lot for him, imo at least. I'd have spent 15 million at most.

20 + 5 does feel high to me. I like him as a player though. Conversely I'd prefer him at 20 + 5 over McT at 30 +, esp considering the likely contract demands.

I actually wonder if his signing could lead to Reed leaving. This would put Reed 4th or 5th in the new pecking order. Atleast McT could play as a 10 with Reed. He may want playing time and we know Wolves were in for him last summer.

The Scotland international is battling with his heart as he decides whether or not to leave his boyhood club.

Didn't expect it to move this quickly but still very happy.

Fair play for naming Berge signing half an hour before Sky Sports. Keep it going. Any other players close to sign?

The club is deciding whether to go in again for Andersen. Joe Gomez is another being discussed. A CB currently playing in France is also of interest. CB is the next priority after Berge.

Oh I wouldn't want McTominay at that price either. I don't even particularly like McTominay. Despite being the biggest risk of the three, I would have liked Andre the most out of those three.

Andersen, Gomez or the French lad Palace are chasing isn't inside information just something anybody on this board could predict.

Ok Jay probably so, but it seems underwhelming to me (just imo)

Really hope I'm wrong and Berge (if signed) turns out a star.

I just hope that Andre isn't picked up by another prem team and we regret it!
(If he is picked up, it could of course turn out that we missed a bullet!)

I don't know, but do trust Silva if he's happy with signings.

I really want Andre but more for his potential than what he is now. Having watched him a few times defensively he might be a bit of a concern and with the ball who knows how well he'd cope with the pace of the prem. I think he'd definitely be a big work in progress and unknown if he'd make the grade.

Conversely Berge did incredibly well in the prem last season but obviously has a lower potential ceiling as no one knows how good Andre could be at prem level. I suppose now we have Berge there is no pressure on the Andre deal if we were still interested. We could even turn around and say right it's only £15 million now if Fluminese came back. They are still desperate to sell and sounds like still literally no one is after him. May well be we have just sacked it off now but if not we are in a much better position I think.

itombomb

Berge is a better footballer than McTominay, the only thing the latter has in his favour is that he'll get you 4 or 5 more goal involvements a year (but contribute much less elsewhere).

I still think you want a proper 6, but he is a player who will improve us.

The thing that I find really weird though, is that if we rated him, why on earth didn't we buy him last Summer when Sheffield United sold him for peanuts - bringing him in for £12-15mil and shipping Reed off to Wolves for £6/7mil would have been an upgrade that was so easy to do.

I really, really don't think Gomez is worth anywhere near what is quoted.
