Moussa Dembele the 3rd

Maybe we're still in for Andre? Berge Andre would be a nice pairing.

Well, if we get Berg, let's give him a chance  ::scarf::

Personally like him has a player think he will do well for us.Marco was in for him last season don't know why it never happened. He is on a three timer this season hopefully we can put that to bed.

Could we be forcing Mn Utds hand by bidding for Berge?

If I remember correctly some on here were wanting the club to sign him last summer or the summer before that

I was in that bracket, just didn't see anywhere near enough tow arrant this price tag personally. I sincerely rated him and wished we had him sooner, but just doesn't seem to have progressed. We'll see I guess.

- Obligatory berge highlight reel

He's the most Palhinha-esque player we've been linked with in terms of physique and presence. Big lad at 6 foot 5

Think he's just seen as not as flash by some because he's been in poorer teams than the likes of Scott and the excitement of a Brazilian from Fluminese (poor standard generally there though tbh so hard to gauge) But put him in a better team like ours and I'm interested to see how he gets on for sure. The fact Utd were looking at him in case Ugarte didn't come off shows he's no mug.

Firstly he is an 8 not a DM. He has played DM but he's an 8 according to all the Sheff United fans reading their forum and looking at Transfermarkt. Surely means we are still after a 6.

Personally I am really happy with this...

He was Burnley's player of the year last year. Thought he looked really good against us.

United were potentially in for him and Liverpool were previously.

He is way better on the ball than McT. McT would score more goals but wouldn't help us at all when we are pressed which is what we struggle with Berge definitely will.

Not read the Burnley forum but reading Sheffield United most really rated him. He could flatter to deceive sometimes disappearing a bit from games but most were gutted when he left and couldn't believe he had gone to Burnley's level. Many seemed to think he could play for a top club.

Stats wise he is very strong looking at last year. Comparing him, Reed, Lukic and McT:

- Best pass completion and way better on medium and long passes.
- way more progressive passes and more progressive distance.
 - to note McT worst of the 4 on all passing metrics
- a lot higher for carries and progressive distance than the other 4.
-double the take ons of Lukic and Reed and a lot more than McT as well.
- defensive stats are very similar for Berge, Reed and McT with Lukic topping it but makes sense as he played a lot as a 6 when Joao was out.
- crucially with the height we've lost aerials won joint top with Lukic and miles ahead of Reed and McT

So all in all Sheffield United fans rate him, he was Burnley's player of the season last year and stats wise he is ahead of the other on most metrics. And he's £5m to £10m cheaper than McT. He should be a massive upgrade progressing us from back to front up the pitch.

He's  only played in crap teams. Imagine what he could do in an excellent team like ours with a brilliant manager.

I rate Berge, think it's a good signing if 10m cheaper than Mctominay. Captained Norway at 26, think it could even be a great signing if we spend that extra on Andersen/Andre

Earlier in the window United were trying to sign Berge and bin Mctominay so I don't agree Berge is a downgrade

I mean to be fair... He waa voted players player and player of the season for Burnley last year so not sure what more he could do (granted they were crap generally but suggests he was the best there by some margin)

I can warm to this approach for sure and I'm likely in that bracket of, its a bit deflating getting this from what we;ve been linked with. I do wonder if we're still getting a DM though and maybe Andre is still all but done, but it'll be a last minute dealing which we probably agreed on.

I think if Berge is our only midfielder, and we're looking at Reed, Lukic and Berge stepping up, or combing to replace Palinha....I feel liek we need to perhaps adjust expectations....lots of talk on here about european football and I just don't think that midfield is close to it.

Agree (as a rule i hate it when that stat comes up, i get flashbacks to Ben Pringle and Richard Stearman).

I am not against the signing, was just musing are we trying to force Utd into a deal.

I hope we have 3 more as well as this coming in as well

sarnian

Think from what I have heard it could be either or.  McTom still preferred option if willing to come, if not then Berge.  If McTom comes Berge will probably replace him at Utd.

Well said all around. I will be ecstatic if we sign him. Been wanting him for a couple transfer windows ago. If we can somehow get Morten Frendrup now that'd be icing on the cake. Hoping for that out of no where theme to continue!

SerbianLad

Of course I'll welcome him and cheer him on and I hope he'll have a great career with Fulham, but I'm really underwhelmed with this signing, especially at that price. I don't think he's a bad player, but he's massively overrated in my opinion. 25 million also seems a lot for him, imo at least. I'd have spent 15 million at most.

20 with potential addons.
Keep in mind ESRs were arouns european qualifications/ silverware so it may never be that amount unless very successful

To back up the stats I have given above some easier to view formats here. He's just generally better all round vs McT and Lukic as this shows. It's a great signing:

Could work incredibly well with Lukic

It's still too much for me, but I know there are lot of people who rate him very highly. I hope I'm wrong though and he becomes one of our best players.

JimmyConway

Initial thoughts not a player who takes you to next level. We already have a couple of these in squad/Team? I suppose it's that time of season when expectations need to be lowered again!

The Scotland international is battling with his heart as he decides whether or not to leave his boyhood club.

Didn't expect it to move this quickly but still very happy.

Fair play for naming Berge signing half an hour before Sky Sports. Keep it going. Any other players close to sign?
