If Andersen falls through should we go for Tosin on loan.  :slap:  :slap:

Quote from: IloveFFC on August 20, 2024, 09:57:16 PMWith Berge and Andersen, maybe the club will try some loan options on deadline day.
I think we'll get an attacking player Marco requested on a full transfer too. Then, anything on top of that would be loans.

I wonder how this window, if we get in Berge, Andersen, a LW and possibly Andre, would set us up in terms of financially in the next few windows. You'd like to think we'd be covered in a lot of ways, but would want to build with quality.. it's obviously a promising place, but wondering how quickly we can recover our finances to bring in those extra players of quality to build on this squad, because it will start to become more a case of bringing in the odd quality player vs needing to refresh the entire squad constantly.

Depay is on a free that is maybe why he was mentioned.

I think there may have been incredibly loose rumours a while ago. Someone just suggested it as he is a free agent I believe. Would be a really good option but wages huge and more importantly I doubt we'd convince him to come.

This is the point after this year. If we got all of that we are in a brilliant position. I am not 100% sure but isn't it only Tete, Cairney and Raul out of contract next summer? Raul we have an option for as well, Cairney will stay as long as we want and if Tete plays more this year could extend. May only have one or two to replace then and then just look at the odd massive upgrade. We are not overspending here...3rd year in the prem and the two big sales and we should still be comfortable even with a few more signings.

Massive fan of Berger and Andersen, great additions
Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".
My response, "Well, lad, you just haven't seen the light yet"

Quote from: SerbianLad on August 20, 2024, 10:08:18 PMI don't think either one is a poor player, epsecially Andersen, but I do feel both are somewhat overrated and we definitely overpaid for them, in my opinion. For that kind of money I'd hope we'd get even better players, but hopefuly both will work out and the positive thing is that they'll adapt pretty quickly probably, as they have a lot of experience playing in England.

I think the fee completely depends on how much playing time you get out of them tbh and it becomes less relevant the longer they stay and depending on how they influence our play/league position etc.

If we get into the top ten, with each PL place worth £1m+ these days (I think), or get into Europe, or do well enough to appeal to other better quality players that again boost our chances... and on top of that Andersen signs a 5 year contract, then the fee becomes more and more acceptable as you can split the costs of the transfers over that time period.

Andersen seems to be £30m, but that's including add-ons, so we don't know what the base is or what the add-ons are based on, so we could find ourselves playing close to £20m-£25m up front, which over a 5 year contract, takes him to 33, which is a decent age for a PL cb and could see his fee amortised over 5 yrs, at £4m-£5m a year.. max £6m..

Interestingly, the season Andersen played for us and we got relegated, Palace finished 14th.. the year after they finished 12th, and then 11th and then 10th.. so they've got progressively stronger since he joined them.. in the time he's played for them they've gone up 4 places. Now I'm not suggesting that's all because of him, obviously not, but it does suggest that as a CB he's been a key part of a better defence. If we go up 4 places, based on the 2 seasons we've had back in the league so far, we'd finish anywhere between 9th and 6th. Rudimentary I know, but still.

No rumour, just conjecture on my part since I said a few months ago he was a free agent now and he'd be an interesting pick, and here we are with him still a free agent and us needing another forward so it still fits, plus he's a bit of a restoration job that's worked kinda well over the last few years

Cottage Talk are classifying Sander Berge as an "poor man's Mctominay"... Just because he will be 10 mill less I do not think he cannot be better than Mctominay, and also I prefer an player that would want to join Fulham on the first offer and seems fair to me if Sander Berge does in fact join, Would like to see him play for Fulham.

I know that we were only very briefly linked with him, and that it was most likely just paper talk, but I'd try to push hard for Chiesa. I was just looking at free agents and players with one year left on their contract and he'd be absolutely perfect. A left winger who can play on the right or as a striker is exactly what I think Marco is looking for. He'd push us up to European places. Would be a dream signing {unfortunately that's all it will probably be, a dream :)}.

For me it's really promising. It's long been, in my mind, the best and right way to develop a team, but has often felt out of reach - under Al Fayed, we were never going to be that team, and under the Khan's there were glimpses it could happen, but it was never quite adding up.

We've been relatively lucky, some won't admit there's luck, but getting in Mitro who was largely unproven and went on to do what he did for us was a bit of a masterstroke and very much luck related - getting in close to £50m. Signing Palhinha seemed at the time like a Marco Silva signing which he had identified, similar to Muniz, from his time out of football, but Marco clearly knew Palhinha and what he could offer.

The real masterstroke was getting in Marco and having a manager who's good at the player development piece and is now in a position where he wants to build.. and long-term project in mind, he's seemingly now getting those pieces to build a proper team and squad with and one that can compete and develop at a good level. Exciting times.

Berge is also a better all round player as proven by his stats profile over McT. I think some of it comes down to snobbery that one plays for Burnley and the other Man United because if McT played for a mid table club nobody would want us to chuck that sort of money at him because he's average at basically everything he does except for popping up with goals every so often which somewhat papers over the cracks. Not disciplined enough to be a proper DM and not good enough to be a box to box midfielder because his passing is kinda naff

It's interesting, I don't see Berge as a DM and would be slightly disappointed if he played there for us and we didn't try and go for Andre too.. that being said, if we did get in Andre, and Berge played higher up in a midfield pairing, then it'd make much more sense for me.

I have to admit, Berge I'm open to keeping an open mind about, but he's less exciting for me personally as a player, but I'd be happy obviously to be proven wrong.

Think Chelsea are interested in him and Juve in Sterling, but think money is the prohibiting factor for both at this stage. I have no idea how much money we're willing to spend at this point, but based on a post I did about 10 pages back this morning around wages & fees being amortised, pre Joa we were probs somewhere near £25m-ish committed for this year and I'd probs lump another £10m in based on his salary and fee, putting us mid 30's for the summer so far. A 5 year deal for Chiesa would probably be about £15m a year committed spend based on him being worth £35m and wanting around 150k a week, but depends if we think there's a bargain to be had on a project LW (or my pick of Depay) and we get another CM. Either way I *think* we might have enough in the bank for a forward and a CM but I'm no FFP expert (and we need Cottage Analytica back to do a deep dive to confirm whether I'm somewhat right or miles out!)

Hmm for me it's more about the way I was thinking of McTominay having played DM a lot but feeling his best position is more in a forward CM role, where he has proven to be a goalscorer and have good timing into the box for Utd in the limited games he's played in that position. For me he seemed to have pretty good stats for a PL midfielder in terms of goal contributions at Utd, think he scored 8? last season in the league, which would've put him in as our 2nd highest scorer, despite the fact he was playing more often in a DM role.

What excited me about Mctominay is the prospect of him playing higher in midfield with the potential for him to get more than 8 goals, when partnered with an Andre type figure who could be a DM behind him.

That's what I think made me favour McTominay over Berge tbh.. and why I was more excited about McTominay than Berge.

There's obviously other dynamics at play though with this - McTominay didn't seem that keen to join us, which for me is a red flag, and Marco says he wants players who are keen to join us... I'd take a keen player over a good but distinterested one and there's not as much of a disparity between Berge and McTominay to merit taking a punt of a premadonna, when Berge is two years younger and enthusiastic about coming and could subsequently learn a lot and develop under Marco.

Berge has got an eye for an assist and goal, 21 g/a in 65 games at Sheffield Utd for example - where he played when he was 22.. so a good rate at a young age.. If we got Andre in as well, which I admit is a big if, then I'd expect Marco to coach Berge into that attack minded/goalscoring midfielder, which Pereira has somehow struggled to breakthrough into being.

howitis

Circa £55 million for Anderson and Berge.
Doesn't float my boat in terms of team uplift and certainly no future resale value.
Anderson looks slow to me. I will give Berge the benefit of the doubt but sometimes he looks lethargic to me and definitely does not contribute enough goals. Having said that friends of mine who are Burnley season ticket holders rave about him and believe he is comfortably a top 8 side midfielder.
I will of course be cheering both players on and hope they have great FFC careers....
Still hope that we are targeting another midfielder and I believe we desperately need a pacey striker with predatory instincts ...

Appreciate the response. I should've clarified.. I know he's played DM, but in my mind having seen some highlight reels and his stats, he comes across as better suited to a CM in a more forward thinking nature than a DM specialist like Andre.. it was more of 'in my own mind, I don't see him as a DM, but a CM with a DM behind him'.

Ecstatic also! Joachim was always the one that got away for me. Was one of the biggest reasons I was gutted we got relegated not keeping him. Now him Berge and ESR as the spine could be really good in terms of passing and advancing up the pitch... Loving how were shaping up!

Agreed about him being the one that got away. There were a good few who got away that season, but Andersen the most. He was brilliant, and seemed to really fight for the cause. Delighted he'll be back.

I don't think we're getting another midfielder unless we sell one (which as I said, would most likely be Reed), but I don't think Berge will play as a typical dm or cm, but rather in a hybrid role similar to what we had with Lukic and Reed when they played together in Palhinha's absence last season. 2 of Berge/Lukic/Reed will play together (assuming Andreas experiment at 8 is over, which I hope is the case).
