Wow so many on here seem to be utterly convinced that Andre is the dog's. Odd that so few clubs / managers in both the Prem and the major European leagues have shown any interest in such a great prospect. Perhaps Andre will go to Wolves, perhaps he will be a success but equally perhaps he won't; what I can't understand is why some are so "gutted" and quick to blame FFC for deciding to sign Berger instead.

There is no concrete evidence we were ever interested, Ali Mac ever went to Brazil or if we ever made contact with his parent club .

I personally found the player an intriguing option given the buzz about him out there and hey, that's part of the fun of silly season. But never felt he was the be all end all only option. Agree that it's a point of interest that no-one else took the gamble on him at the prices originally quoted,  and rather telling that no one met our supposed earlier offer.

But Peter Rutzler reported our interest multiple times - and he's very well connected at Fulham - indeed has said it again just now.

Multiple well established Brazilian outlets reported it.

Their president is on record on video stating that we made an offer but never responded to their counter - a pretty weird thing to say if it didn't ever happen ,specifically naming a random club across the globe...and no one from Fulham at the time put out a direct counter statement if they'd been named in that way and it were completely b.s

Also fwiw privately others spoken to with links to the club have suggested there was interest but we moved on.

All in all nothing is concrete unless we have the emails leaked - which well never have... but one of the clubs presidents stating clearly and directly that we made an offer is about as much evidence as one could hope for that there was once interest.

However, we opted to look elsewhere ultimately knowing that if we preferred him to Berge he was still available at the time we sidned Sander, and we didn't, it seems, go back in for Andre with a similar package at that point. So we got our man, Wolves have taken their punt and on we all go

Maybe it is another Solomon moment - another bullet we dodged ?
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Very annoying I think we need 3 players in by Friday
LW
CM
CF
And as a luxury a goalkeeper .
We are these positions away from a good season

Why a goal keeper - how many do we need ?

We definitely do not NEED any of the above. As it stands, we comfortably finish top 10. We might need a quality LW if we want to finish top 7.

We've said very clearly we're only looking for 1 other attacking wide/cross the attacking line player at this point.

LW - Iwobi (scored a goal from there already), ESR can easily interchange and was brilliant there for Arsenal, his goal actually came from drifting wide left too against liecester. Marco has repeatedly said he believes in Stansfield and says he can play him off the left which is where he played against Brum. Then you have Godo in reserve along with Sess if needs be.

CM - Lukic Berge and Reed all can play the deeper DM role, Periera/Berge/Lukic/Cairney/Iwobi/King/Reed can all also play the slightly more advanced central role. If you saw the Birmingham game then King absolutely shouldn't be blocked off from a route to minutes there.

CF - Marco has made it clear he's happy with his options and believes in them as there's been no mention of strikers. Whilst It's nice to have more striking options always, I trust Marcos intuition on this and again would like to see Stansfield given his chance and not blocked off from potential minutes here too.

We got enough to pick up points and have potential goal threats around the striker too, ESR hopefully key in that, Iwobi starting well and Adama has looked a threat + another Winger is on the way to add more firepower and take less saturated attention off the strikers alone... so let's see where we're at come Christmas if we need to splash on a striker there then we can, or opt for another Broja style loan.

GK - People are being way to quick to write off Benda mostly on 1 pre-season performance, bit reactionary for me, too early to make a call. He was better against Brum than in that game and may continue to grow. Unless you randomly pick up some old boy begovic style keeper what can we bring in to sit on the bench of decent quality guaranteed to be better than Benda anyway. Appreciate ya said this ones a luxury though

Ah go on then

Might be the last one of the window after all!

Looks rapid, strong, direct and pretty raw. There certainly some talent and impressive altheticism there that looks like it could do with some refining but with plenty upside at only 20years old

JackHamlet90

I'm really happy with our window so far
A good winger would top off a great window. Yes Andre would have been a nice addition but when I look at our squad I'm very pleased

I'm not sure at all we're comfortably top 10.
I would say we finish 10-14 based on what we have at the moment

Tend to agreee. If last month we had been told of the players we would have in. I think most of us would have thought that it makes a strong squad. There will always be positions we could improve upon. But no doubt this has been a good window for us.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

I know it's early doors but many of the teams that finished above us  last season (Newcastle, Brentford, Bournemouth, WHam) aren't looking all that great and Champion's League will destroy Villa's squad. We could definitely finish 10th or higher.

Tend to agreee. If last month we had been told of the players we would have in. I think most of us would have thought that it makes a strong squad. There will always be positions we could improve upon. But no doubt this has been a good window for us.

I think the forward options really does need dealing with. The backup aren't good enough and in Willian and BDR we apparently lost 18 goals/assists from last season. Its a bit much to put that responsibility on ESR, as we had Iwobi playing a decent amount.

I think, for all the good that has been done, if the 18 g/a being lost is true, then the successes will be tinged with a bit of failure. It is always a clearly important position to secure and have quality in and the transfer team have been very slow to improve that area of the pitch.

In fact, for two seasons in a row now, we've lost our main attacking threats and not replaced them. You can't keep doing that at this level and hoping to get by.

We mentioned how under Parker we had a defence that was mid table but a failure to score saw us relegated.

It's great having ESR in, but as things stand the club have let slip on our attacking options quite severely in my opinion.

Everyone acknowledges there are question marks over Jimenez, Muniz, Wilson and even Traore.. that leaves us with two attackers in esr and iwobi that have guaranteed quality, but even with iwobi, last season he really didn't score or assist that much.

We currently seem to be relying quite heavily on the ability to pass through the lines from Andersen, Berge and Esr being creative.

If any of them got injured or suspended then very few on here would feel genuinely confident about our attacking threat in the ways we have done when Mitro, Willian and BDr were here.

Something - something of genuinely quality needs to come in, not another youth prospect.

ffcthereligion

Reality is, had we successfully signed Andre as we've been trying to do for multiple seasons, the same posters who are now saying 'nobody else was in for him', 'it's a love in' and 'we may have avoided being sold a pup' would be the loudest in saying 'well done the Khans great negotiation we landed our man well done for not buckling' etc etc. There would no doubt also be declarations of excitement about his class

The bleating about missing out on being sold a pup smacks of bitterness and self delusion to me.

LRCN

Berge over andre is a big error. But if ap is playing deeper you can't have him next to andre, so maybe it'd a profiling thing
