Quote from: hopper on July 01, 2025, 05:28:44 PMApparently Forest have agreed a deal for Malick Fofana, something really weird going on between Eagle Group (Textor) and Marinakis, so many deals - at really favourable rates to Forest.
Tbf, sounds to me like Fofana isn't sold on Forest. Suspect this will end up like our "deal" for Cherki last season.

Face facts, Forest and a few others are just more ambitious than us. I highly doubt we've even been spending up to the FFP limit these last few years, let alone looking for creative ways around it.

The big questions are about the players that Forest have sold. Niakathe and Mangala for a combined £50 million (about twice the going rate) to a Lyon side that was teetering on insolvency last season and £20 million for Vlachodimos to be a backup keeper at Newcastle.

With Fofana it seems the player doesn't want to go. If we were out bidding for him you would say that we were wasting our time like with Cherki instead of being ambitious.

So if TC re-signs today, then it'll be a hattrick of signings

I mean, bidding on players that aren't going to sign for you, whether it's us doing it or someone else, is irrefutably a waste of time. Surely we can all agree on that.

However Forest / others have been ambitious in the business they've completed (and that would be particularly stark if they've employed creative devices, such as selling players at inflated fees to connected clubs, to circumvent FFP restrictions to enable that).

Obviously Tete huge but this is brilliant news as well. If he can get a championship loan and perform there, really think he has a chance for us in the prem after his performances at international level. Great to keep a top academy prospect.  ::thumb::

I don't think he's really big or strong enough for the PL at least in a back 4. He could probably get away with it in a back 3 but it would be really tough as a CB in a back 4 and he's not quick enough to be a RB. Especially considering Bassey is also short for a CB and poor in the air.

Ultimately I think he is destined for another league which is fine but we need to make sure we get paid when he moves so this is a very good signing.

Do definitely agree with the pace and strength and that overall unlikely he makes it for us as so few do. One of the better prospects however.

Certainly not ready yet but he can get stronger and bear in mind he has been playing against very decent players at international level and hasn't looked out of place. Also note that honestly he already to me plays quite a lot like Ream who had similar attributes and did make it in the end. His passing and composure on the ball is already very, very good. Looked good pre season two summers ago as well against prem opposition.

Having said that the odds as I say are certainly stacked against all this as so hard to reach mid table or above prem level so fully take all points made snd the likelihood is still that he won't make it for us. Do however think there is at least a chance.

If he could do well in the championship which is a very rough league you'd definitely be having a look at him the season after. Main thing is as you say at least as a minimum we could get a decent sale out of it with him signing.  ::smile::

Agree

Since we returned to the PL, the standard required for an academy player to be really useful to us has obviously gone up, and I don't really see anyone hitting it. Outside chance Josh King might, beyond that Carvalho was probably the last. No been excited by LDF, Godo, Stansfield et al.

Thank the lord that most of you are NOT in charge!

No news on Ridgeon yet snd Liverpool and City were sniffing. At 16 he's defo a very good prospect as well.
