@jolslover

Forest have done some great biso so far (albeit none confirmed) but lots of fees agreed for some top talent

Calhanoglu would be quality if we could get him.. Berba level signing. Don't suspect he would come to us though

Totally agree on Calhanoglu, the kind of quality where I think the age discussion is irrelevant. Our free kick and corner threat would increase tenfold.

Seems he's off to Turkey.

I like the idea that TK is an active secret contributor here. That'd be hilarious.

Sunderland splashing the cash a little bit already, albeit after selling Jobe Bellingham. Beaten our transfer record spending £35m on Habib Diarra, and now €17m on Noah Sadiki.

Looks like they're making smart moves, but what do I know.

Does show that you can do early deals and convince someone to move to a promoted club in the North East; so we should be able to convince good players to a stable PL club in one of the nicest parts of London.

We never seem to be in much of a hurry do we.

Surely it's all about getting the players you actually want rather than getting players just because they are available.

Not necessarily about getting the players you want, but rather taking/picking from those that are left at the very end, some might say bottom of the barrel?

So all the clubs getting in players now aren't getting the players they want? I find that hard to believe.

Sure, but when we're consistently the last club to ever sign a player - I don't think we can logically deduce that every summer the players we want become available later than every other club.

TK has spoken about this, and how often you do have to wait a bit for some players who may be holding out for Champions League clubs etc; so I get it plays a part. But I think it's also true that we are not the most organised or efficient in the transfer market.

Honestly who knows behind the scenes. Marco said there was a very clear list established well before the season ended so not sure we are unorganised. We are clearly going for top end players like Fofana as reported by reputable sources so as Hopper says going for them as a mid table club you have to wait on what they decide or you just go straight for your fourth choice. We also of course negotiate the hell out of every deal. Sunderland have basically just paid what was asked for. Gets players in quicker but obviously not as good for FFP...depends what you are after. End of the day we basically have the same team as last year when we finished comfortably mid table so no mad rush to get the best player we can in on the best deal for FFP. Frigging frustrating waiting however!!

Have our signings been bottom of the barrel previous years?? No if you ask me and Marco from everything he has said. as The vast majority have been successful. ESR prob less successful so far and one of the ones in highest demand. Berge had Man U on the table so prob had to wait/convince him. Marco has consistently said he has got the targets he wanted but most have taken a long time to convince/negotiate.

Well, I did pose the barrel comment with a question mark.  And, agreed, in recent seasons under MS, I do think we have done 'alright' in the transfer windows.  That said, FFC still have a hard and fast policy of business done last minute.  And that still does, in fact, leave signings with only those available at the very end, and may not represent the clubs first, second, or even third choices.  Would much rather pay, perhaps at a premium, early on for those players you are actually targeting.  Two recent signings that come to mind that were early on, and proved to be good signings, were Palhinha and Pereira.  Would still rather prefer to see earlier moves.....

They probably are getting the players they want, but they are probably not the players MS wants.

Don't have a problem with that. I would imagine any club signing him will have discussions in regards to injuries and likely have a clause or two? Sometimes it's worth the gamble knowing if it does click we have a very good forward on our hands. We are likely to only sign players of his class in this type of situation as they would be way out of our reach and unlikely to come.
