Is the tactic to renew contracts first before bringing new players?

It's not a bad tactic, but does slow things down quite a bit. It builds good-feeling amongst the squad, it focuses the players who get new contracts.. it build momentum and credibility that players want to stay and believe in the project and sends good signals to potential new recruits (and existing players) that if you perform you get rewarded, whilst also saying these are the players you'll be playing with for the next few years. Also strategically means players can kick on and we can spend our transfer budget on bringing in quality over quantity and really building out the squad with depth and people challenging for starting positions.

Not remotely enamoured by Viera. Want any signing to be at least one, if not two of (1) cheap, (2) quality and (3) young. Not sure he's any.

Hope renewals on fringe players like King, TC and LDF aren't the reason our real business hasn't happened yet.

He's a good player - good YT comp if you have a min

Was just playing around on the theme of having a lot of ex Arsenal players. Ofc not serious that the club would recreate a parallel world like the movie...

Nelson played really well alongside ESR and did bring the best out of him.

@alfie Iwobi was an Arsenal 'Hale Ender', like Nelson and ESR.
I know he was, but the theme of the post was about getting players "from" Arsenal.

King is being seen by the club and Marco as someone who they deem likely to not be fringe for long. he's likely to continue getting increasing minutes this yeae. They see him in training and at 18 now, if he continues to takes his chances and develops on track, he could get regular minutes and even push for a starting place if the next couple seasons. I doubt they'd be looking to spend significant money on a CAM (having already bought ESR) if hes now showed his intent to commit his future here. As they rightly or wrongly from what they know of him, seem to think he will emerge as a hugely valuable asset. So now that's secured and they have TC signed on, should king still need another development year so have some insurance. Perhaps that enhances our kitty in other areas and what we can offer. Who knows. All speculation

not suggesting it's the only reason for not signing people of course but it logically may have a knock on effect in our budget allocation

Arsenal mates like him, but much with esr-neslon-iwobi they say he's competing with very very good players, and whilst showing flashes of real quality he's never quite grabbed his chances for regular football undeniably enough.

Would be a classic Fulham signing though if at a decent price. Can play a number of positions, Clearly needs a chance to find a permanent home where he can push on and find his confidence again. Not against the idea. Would personally prefer a Reitz or Luiz type of profile but neither look likely atm. Would also give us someone to takeover from TC next year when you'd think his time at Fulham probably comes to an end. Not hearing many rumbles about AP departing so interested to see what happens at CM

In the "next couple of seasons" sure, but you have Cairney and Wilson out of contract next summer and Lukic turning 30. So he may be a solution to next summer's problems. But he's not going to be a regular starter in 25/26 after playing 120 PL minutes last year. If our core transfer business this summer is about improving the first XI, he's not relevant to that.

Makes sense as we we're at just over 85% for squad cost ratio on the last accounts which means if the new rules that have been delayed come in we are borderline for falling foul of them (unless we made sales to cover it). If in Europe it is 70% and apparently that's his long term target to get the cost down to. If true not exactly easy is it when trying to bump contracts for the likes of Muniz and then offer big contracts for ambitious targets to convince them to come. Think these new rules are going to be even worse for us than the old ones and really can't see why so many clubs agreed to it.
If this is true I don't think we've made much progress, if anything we'll have gone backwards as likely Cairney and definitely Tete will have just had pay rises.

If we really want to cut the wage bill then Jimenez needs to go, and we need to be thinking about a replacement for Leno over the next year or two.
wage-to-turnover ratio was 76%, a drop from the previous year's 126%... Suspect they want that down more but it won't be done overnight.
He could also increase the turnover to achieve the revised target. The Riverside stand open will go some way towards that

Do we know that for sure? The club will have a good read on where he's at. He might well contribute much more this year than you're expecting, we'll have to see. Another year older and another full pre season with the first team, if he impresses in pre season he might well be trusted to be legit competition to ESR this year.

We have TC (and AP still for now) and as mentioned multiple other players who can play CAM if ESR is struggling to live up to price tag too. It just seems to me budget is way better allocated to high quality elsewhere, but that perspective is based on 1. A belief ESR can push on this year 2. King can step up again in his development. Of course it's possible that doesn't happen but that's for the club to make a call on.

If we accept it's possible or even likely he could ready to be a prominent player for us by 19 the year after, but we spent massive on another 20m+ CAM this summer we're blocking his route to vital minutes this year to develop into the asset the club think he can be(assuming we don't send him on loan).

If the club back this kid then I just dunno why they'd focus major funds on CAM where we have options already, over Spending that money on top quality CM who can potentially play further forward or back also. (Like a reitz Luiz or viera type)

Each to their own tho

Tete yes but Cairney would have had a pay cut.  These 2 players cost likely to be near net £0

Changing the topic slightly. Does anybody know the highest number of pages previous 'Silly Season' transfers threads have reached in the past. Before we've actual signed a player not at the club?

Yeah just reading that. Zinchenko as well:

"While talking with AFC Fulham have also had discussions about Zinchenko & Viera. The formers wage demands are currently too high & the latter there have only been preliminary talks."

Apparently Viera only on £25k a week. Feels like he's been around forever but only just turned 25!

On loan at Porto last year. Did get 5 goals and 6 assists. Played half the games at 8 and half at 10 so covers either position. Supposedly no future at Arsenal. Very creative and good passer looking at the stats and from what I remember but sounds like he has lost his way a bit. Marco regen project? Could be an exciting one:

https://portugoal.net/portuguese-abroad/4891-fabio-vieira-at-a-crossroads-in-his-career

:slap:

Anyone else from Arsenal while we're at it.

Don't mind any of these players, but would be pretty funny if we added three to Iwobi, Leno, ESR

Yeah mad isn't it. Thing is they all make sense for both parties and the players.

 :slap:

We clearly have a good relationship with them. Will become a bit of a laughing stock of Arsenal rejects team but if they win us a tonne of matches who gives a F?  ::smile::

Suspect it's all a Truman show type ploy to make ESR feel at home

Yeah, I mean it seems perfectly reasonable to spend tens of millions to help ESR "feel at home".
We might have to change our name to The Woolwich Fulham?

What about FulArse FC or ArseFul FC?
