Still can't get my head round theNelson saga,2 ex arsenal players in our side, talbot played for arsenal might have a few friends their, silva has seen the player 1st hand knows his injury problems over the last 5 years on very high money over 5 mill a year.Their are thousands of wingers all over the world on less money who maybe as good or better and don't need an ambulance on stand by in case of a twinge. So why this one is it lazy scouting or is it hearsay from players and staff seems a very weak way of scouting players it doesn't suprise me we have never found a real bargain in the market.

He's proven to be a very good player, when fit. Better stats in a better league than even young Malick Fofana. Available on a cut price deal that will only rack up IF he stays fit.

Reportedly Marco wants him, even if club a little more cautious.

He's been injury prone though, so we are signing another winger (possibly sterling) so we won't be caught short IF he does get injured anyway

And if he doesn't- he's potentially a very good signing whom the team were doing well with in the squad, at a very decent fee.

Hope that clears up the mystery for you

In addition to whats already been mentioned, Marco seems to have been quoted recently as saying that he felt Nelson's injury last season was a particularly unlucky one and perhaps not in line with historical injuries and therefore worth taking the calculated risk on.

He kinda implies to me that he doesn't think Nelson is as big a risk as his injury history implies and that he was simply unlucky, and with that , doesn't feel its something that is likely to happen again.

There are no guarantees as we all know, but having had Reiss in the club for a season (give or take), there must be a process of assessing the risk of taking him back on, but also from a more detailed perspective of having the clubs own data of performance (when he was fit), general health and physical fitness, as well as more nuanced details on his injury and how bad it was as well as injury record.

I imagine the club would have monitored a number of these things throughout his time with the club and feel, having viewed all of that, he is still worth getting back in to the club.

Look a loan is a low risk.. the club will know what markers are set to enable a permanent contract and so can easily manage him away from playing more games if they think he's a liability.

Reiss obviously wants to come back to the club, fits in with the squad and has talent. Plus our manager wants him.

So given all of that it seems a bit of a no brainer.

He won't be our only attacking signing this window, with maybe two or three others coming in, on top of Adama, Wilson, Jimenez, Muniz, Iwobi, ESR etc..

Fill it out with a few more players and the risks for Nelson are reduced both in terms of injuries, potential outlay, but also affect it could have on team performance.

Then there's the reality that if he gets injured then we don't sign him, and if he performs well then he's stayed injury free and is worth it.

Yeah I read that and complete speculation but imagine we are in exactly the same position of going for players that want to wait to see if bigger clubs come in first. At least unlike Everton our squad hasn't been decimated.

For both us and Everton Douglas Luiz is a prime example. Bet he was waiting for a champions league club or the likes of Man U. Looks like none have so far so looks like reports today suggesting Everton. Just wonder if we could get back in that conversation. If Chelsea truly won't go below £30m for KDH personally I'd much rather drop that kind of money on Luiz. KDH has never done it at prem level in terms of goals and assists where Luiz has. Luiz's wages would however prob be a lot higher so may not be viable but I just wonder if after he sacked us and other mid table teams off a few weeks ago it could be more viable now?

With Mitrovic supposedly being offered to Premier League teams, I am hoping that this doesn't come off. I don't want the Fulham supporters to boo him.

I'll never believe he'll give up that wage unless they pay him out of his contract. We'll see.

Indeed. Almost like, in many cases, there may well be various high-quality players, who might have been holding out to assess their options and to see if a top European club was in for them, who perhaps that won't happen for this window and so they become available later, as has happened with us before.

It's a risk to do ALL your business that way and not suggesting we should, and we don't leave it ALL till then anyway. But it's pretty obviously the case that it's not an uncommon scenario.

Wonder where Fofana will end up if he's flat out not interested in Everton, perhaps he's also put us on the back burner. Also, pure silly season speculation, but I wonder, if Raheem is another situation where Chelsea want to wait till end of window to see if they can get a straight sale...That once we've signed Nelson, maybe we'll hold out till end of the window to see if Malick is interested around the same time before completing either deal. Much like we were talking to Reiss in the background for a little while reportedly, along with Ernest, and once the latter pulled out last minute we brought in Nelson.

Cunha and Mbeumo were happy to sign for a team without any European commitments. I think it's an assumption that players want Europe. Some chase the money first and will sign for a so called big club. Unfortunately we don't fit into that category and neither do Everton despite what their fans may think. Most players probably view Everton as a perennial struggler, which they are.

What odds on having him back? Marco is still in touch with him.

Only reason that will happen is if we sell Muniz to Leeds!

I think more than possible next year on a free. No chance this year with the fee they supposedly want and his wage unless they are going to pay him out of it and drop their fee demand massively.

Of course, it's a matter of degree.
Every club will do some of their business late, just as every club will sign some older players too.
But let's be clear, no one does as much of it, as late, as we do.
That is extremely "uncommon".
We've an outlier strategy on multiple metrics.

That team was Man Utd and they paid an absolute fortune for them.

Yes, they've been crap for a while. But let's not act like Everton and Fulham have the same pull as record top-flight league title winning and multi-champions league winners Man Utd - that should and likely will eventually return to being a top 6 side eventually just due to the sheer size of the club.

Yes their draw has dwindled in recent years - but they are, for all intents and purposes a sleeping giant with a massive worldwide brand. Players still think they can go there and be part of a team that can win silverware and bring glory and European football back to old trafford. For all they were rubbish last year - they still made a european cup final.
