Assume this is a wind up?

I'm seriously. He was just driving in. I don't know why, obviously but he was heading in. Some other geezer in the front seat with him. Don't know who.

Sterling?

Quote from: copthornemike on September 01, 2025, 04:46:07 PMSo let me get this right.
We have paid Chelsea £22 million 'plus add ins' for an inexperienced (<10 EPL games) player, whilst Chelsea need to ship out players.
Yet we appear to be prepared to ship out two experienced internationals (Traore and Wilson) on the last 12 hours of a transfer window.
I don't blame the Khan's for this, they are based in the USA and are an invaluable and generous benefactor for the club.
But the Board and scouting 'professionals?'
Incompetent or what.
Probably risking the manager mid-season as well if Nuno or Potter are let go!

Both are in the last year of their contracts, and might not sign extensions. Letting them both leave for £0 is stupid, and George is the type of player we should be targetting because he has the potential to make us a good profit in a year or two and is young enough that he could spend 5 years here and still not have hit his peak years...
Agree with this except your point about profit on George, as we're agreeing to a hefty sell on fee to Chelsea. If somehow he turns out to be really good and we sell for £70-80m in two years, we end up with £36m after the sell on, which yes is a great bit of a profit but it's a huge if we ever sell him for that much.

But even if we make £10m+ profit in a year or two then we're looking at north of £30m revenue on a sale which is the sort of thing we need to do at least once every season if we want to remain competitive. I'd rather we didn't have a sell on fee for Chelsea of all clubs, but if it means the upfront cost is cheaper and reduces the risk for us, it's something I'd be willing to accept.
Agree but for me the upfront cost isn't that cheap for a player with very limited experience. £15m fine, but £22m upfront is a lot.

With Wissa likely to move they require a winger, Nelson suits the bill nicely.
On a loan with an option, not obligation, to buy.
Brentford acting like a professional outfit!
I would have preferred Nelson to George. Cheaper and more proven.

Are either of the Khans at Motspur to smooth the passage of Kevin ?
Nudge nudge wink wink 😉 💵 💌

It could however be down to the mercenaries that are the player and agent playing us for a better deal at the last minute, if the latter is the case, then F#@k them both.

"Sky sports news bloke outside motspur park suggesting it's a agent trying to get a little bit more money out of Fulham with regards to the Kevin Deal "

Bloke outside the gates of Motspur Park has as much inside info as us. Fulham will only tell him when there is something he needs to know - anything else is pure speculation and he's busy pressing f5 like us.

Hang on Nelson was always injured and people didn't want him. We wanted a younger player. Now we want the injured player and not the youngster. Weird this football lark.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

So 2 hours left and no signings yet. I was one of the more optimistic posters here in regards to our transfer business this window, but I have to say, I'm getting quite worried now.

I know deal sheets exist, but:

a) do we always have to use deal sheets, why not sign someone earlier
b) as far as I understand you can only submit 2 deal sheets, meaning if we don't sign anyone in the next 2 hours, we can get 2 players in at most.

HobGoblin

Been driving back to Germany from Switzerland with my GF, only just got signal at house. If we've lost out on Kevin and sign a walham player that is most disappointing

I would have preferred George if he was the same price as Nelson, or cheaper. The quoted price is ridiculous for someone with under 10 PL appearances and 1 goal.

I think things will be toxic if it's just George in the door and everything else is consigned to the bin.

Kevin will be the biggest balls up of all time if that collapses.

Deeping_white

Apparently the hold up with Kevin is the agent fees; his agent wants a bigger cut because that's what Sporting promised him

Not necessarily. You pay more for youth and potential than you do for older injury prone players who've already reached their ceiling.

Or deals completed but just not told the press to be able to do the promo pictures.

Hopefully George is just a smokescreen to force Kevin's arm (and his agent) on his big wage demands

Be better if Kevin told his agent to f off.

Lighthouse

Yes we don't have to announce the transfers when they are done. And we have until 9 to complete signings if we have put in the deal sheets. We couldn't put in the deal sheets before now. Some European leagues have different days when the window closes. So we could still lose players later.

Makes this whole thing a gangsters paradise. The whole system on and off the field is ripe for back handers.
