so £25m roughly up front if true.

£30k is allegedly over half of Diops wage so that's great for SCR if it is him who departs. Could be a saving of £30-40k pw (nearly £2.5m per year top end) if rumours are to be believed.

Interesting to see how quickly news of a departure would land once this gets close or over the line.

If there's anything in it, this would seem a bit odd.
Didn't seem anything special when we sold him to Strasbourg for (allegedly) £7m. Obviously had a good season in France as is now said (by who?) to be worth three times that.
Right footed left winger (plenty of them about) would surely only make sense if we negotiated some fancy pay-back clause when we sold him.

Yeah this has to be nonsense. If we buy him back for 3 times the £7m we got for him just 12 months after selling him, it would effectively be like US paying STRASBOURG £14m for them to take him on a season long loan. On that principle alone it's a no from me!

Absolute nonsense, Djed Spence is available at Spurs, if he indicated a desire to return to Fulham would you be opposed to us paying £25 million for him even though we originally gave him away for nothing.

Just a point. Some on here have to get on board with the basic thrust of the new SCR regs. Yes transfer fees remain important, but Wage Costs are now paramount. The emphasis shifts from "That's too much to pay!" or "How does that impact our transfer budget?" to; "How does that impact our total squad wage bill"?

it's critical to understand this beacuse it is going to shape our transfer strategy (and similarly other clubs') henceforth.  in fact I thibk it's pretty clear that it is likely to significantly affect the market by reducing the salaries that older, experenced players can hope to command.

I thought Spence was very impressive in the WC run.  Will be 26 as new season begins.  Same position as Robinson.  Not sure if/how would fit in at FFC?

I saw a fair bit of him in the U21's, in flashes he looked good, however at other times he was a bit too greedy wanting to beat player after player when a cross or pass was on and I wasn't convinced he ever put much of a shift in tracking back, that said that was the 21's and perhaps he was trying to stand out and I am doing him a disservice?
All that said I do think Josh King has played better in the first team than he did at u21.

Djed Spence left our youth academy without ever signing professional terms, let alone playing for us, 8 years ago via Leeds, Forest, Boro and Spurs. How is that even remotely comparable? Not even close to being anywhere near the same situation.

I'm not really following this sorry.

I thought transfer fees still count towards SCR, just as they did under FFP. And wages always counted towards FFP, just as they do now under SCR.

Isn't the only real difference that SCR is assessed year-to-year, rather than the three-year period for FFP, and most importantly of all, the cap is a percentage of income rather than a fixed monetary amount.

Porthogs FC

Also we have Robinson and Sess at LB. Don't need another. With these two a day fitness regime's, I actually think Sess will be a beast if his body can hold up.

Yes, transfer fees still count toward SCR but transfer fees can be amortised over the player's contract so a player costing £20m on a five year contract only really cost £4m per season + the player's salary. And it is year-to-year rather than over a three year period. We cannot spend over 85% of what we earn from our footballing-related revenues and this 85% includes all footballing staff's salaries. If we spend between 85% and 115% of our footballing-related revenues then it's a fine. Anything above that is a points deduction.

Transfer fees were always amortised under FFP so no change there.

Yeah, but I guess the biggest difference between PSR and SCR is that PSR allowed clubs to lose a lot of money, SCR does not unless you're willing to take a fine or points deduction.

Well we would be buying back a former player for more than what we received so it is kinda similar.

Ok yeah totally, this part makes sense. I just don't get the occasional posts which seem to suggest it's more about wages now than transfer fees.

But it's not though is it.

Read my first post again and tell me how the maths do not support my viewpoint it would effectively be the same as us paying Strasbourg £14m for them having him on a season long loan. They are undeniable.

Try and do the same again to Spence - you can't. So they are totally incomparable.

I'd be happy to take back Spence if he was £25m. £25m for Spence is decent business.

I would not be happy if we bought back Godo only 12 months later for £14m more than we sold him for purely on that principle because of what I mentioned above. Absolutely not good business.

KentFulham

If Godo costs 14m but is what we need then so be it. It just once again highlights the lack of vision MS had beyond making do with safety

Bronaldinho

Godo stories sounds like agent talk. I'd be surprised if Strasbourg would cash in so quickly. Also linked with Coventry and Ekrem Konur sources aren't the best.

Spence is a right footed RB. Can play as LB, as he did at times for England and Spurs, as well but primarily an RB
