Fulham, West Ham, Everton and Napoli looking at Davison Sanchez.

Ah, cheers!  I didn't know that.

Seems a bit steep, but about the same that we paid for Bassey and were bidding for Morato.

They also wanted £50m for Broja.

From what I have watched and read it's been quoted that Marco has said he needs players for 3/4 positions with two players for C/B so 4/5 players. My guess would be 2 C/B, 1 L/B, 1 L/W, 1 C/M he said they already have their targets and that they are the same targets as before. He said that they would have to be clever and finding players who are not performing to their best level now but can return to that level at Fulham. He also said he does not buy back up players and everyone signed we be with the intension of being a first team player and then it's up to the players to fight for the place.

I think I am behind here. Why would we need two centrebacks?

Marco could want to carry 5 CBs after how thin it got due to injuries this season but I'm starting to think that Ream has asked out so he can play regularly to keep his chances higher of playing in the next WC.

Thanks, then I completely missed that quote! Sounds a bit strange though, maybe it was misinterpreted. Or did he sa outright we are looking for two centre backs?

"100 per cent, and probably not just one," he said. "Probably we are going to look for two [centre-backs]. It's not the only one, but one of the positions [we need]."

Would take him on a free on a heartbeat if I'm honest.

With Ballo Toure you'd think likely departing, LB cover who is also LW cover.
I don't know, I loved seeing him break through for us, but something in my gut at the time felt he was never going to quite cut it at premier league level. I couldn't put my finger on it but I felt he missed that ability to run at players and beat his man 1 on 1 which is such a big part of the game at the top.

A shame if he did return he wouldn't get the guidance of Luis Boa Morte as I think it'd do him the world of good. But I'd of course get behind him massively if he did come back.

I agree that he never seemed to fit as a Premier League player out wide.

My opinion is he belonged centrally at that level, not out wide. Problem now is that injuries and limited playing time may keep us from ever finding out.

For the betterment of his career I hope he drops back to the Championship for game time and to get back on track. The Premier League is the wrong place to try to achieve that.

I kind of agree. Sess should be playing as a striker since he has a terrific instinct, movement and finishing ability. Unfortunaly for him he doesnt have a good enough flair and dribbling skills to be a Premiership winger.

Good look at transfer window always like these

Some thoughts:
Love the Eric Garcia shout and in general most of the suggestions, great to see your knowledge of foreign leagues although not sure how realistic all are
Silva has said Tete will be with us next season (he has not renewed just to get a fee) so there is no chance of us getting/needing an RB
Asprilla and Sara great shouts from the Champ

Unless I'm missing something, I think this makes sense. Losing Tosin, and Ream on the back end (not writing him off but at some point age catches up with you), we know Silva likes to have 2 competitive players in each position, so realistically, not including any youth prospects that probably need a loan rather than squad backup, we have Bassey, Diop and Ream. So I think adding two makes sense if we maintain Ream is more about support/changing room morale/maturity and emergency backup. Maybe I'm downplaying Reams role though.

Wouldn't it be nice to have our team settled and ready to go for the start of the season, that means all new players here for the pre season matches say in just two months time.
That means Marc must have his in/out short list on the table by now, love to have a peep at it.

This will buck the trend of my previous window arguments, but I'm content if most of our transfers are done towards the later stages of the window to be honest. Unless we lose some key players early, the current squad is already competitive and there's not really a huge gap in the squad so maximising value and leaving it late, feels more appropriate considering, that's where the max value is.

obviously getting the right players, for the right place, early is better, but that's just not how the market works. But if say, Palinha and Robinson leave early to mid window.....i'd expect those players replaced earlier really as that would cause some disruption to our team/squad.

In the interview I just reposted Marco says they have been planning and drawing up their list since January, I also read elsewhere that they were going back in for players they tried to sign before like Morata and Ocampus.

Definitely need the CB's to be signed before the pre-season matches, give them time to bed in and form partnerships is crucial. Can't be having them come in as last minute window transfer signings and waiting weeks while they bed in.

I would love the Morata rumours to come good but seems almost too good for our second option LCB and would cost not an insignificant amount. Having already spent out on Bassey I suspect we'd look at the larger expenditure being on a starting RCB.   Morato is Left-footed but can also play LB (as can Bassey tbf)

If he's happy to come and fight it out for the CB spot being a young 22 year old so be it. Would surely signal the end for Ream though.

Articles have done the rounds that he wanted the move last year and asked for the club to sanction the move only for it to fall through

Didn't seem to be an issue for Joachim Anderson when we signed him, he was good at CB from the jump having signed late in the window, our issue that year was scoring.

Calvin Bassey signed just  2 weeks before the new season started. He was great from the start.

Issa Diop signed a couple days before the season started and has done well for us generally (was the starter over Tosin most of the time early this season and I suspect we only started Tosin later because we were trying to convince him to re sign with us and there was little to choose between the two) . That year we finished 10th following a great start to the season after a whole summer of people making this argument about how if you get players in later you're doomed to start badly.

I would always prefer better players late than lesser players just because they can be got in early if it's a choice. We have most of those players, presumably, for years after being signed. It's most important to get the right ones long term.

So I don't agree that we "definately need" that. I'd like that, sure, everyone always would of course.... but we already have a defence featuring Diop, Bassey and Ream with Luc DF in reserve currently. That's more than fine to not have to rush for the sake of it. If our top targets are available at a good price early and want the move, happy days, if we have to play the negotiating game like we did with others before, and if the player or agent wants to see what the options are, so be it. Thats the game
