Quote from: jayffc on July 09, 2024, 01:06:46 PMSeems to be a reputable source and their fans seem outraged at the price being as "low" as 20m euros. Seemingly he's quite the "wonderkid" over there.

Fingers crossed we can get something done at a good price if he's really as talented as they think, perhaps we'd see Jiminez moved on if this came off although that would be a very young striker selection.

He was their top scorer by some distance and tied for most assists at 18, can understand why they rate him. Besiktas had a bad season overall though.

There's a very well informed Turkish journo who has 1.4m followers who's also reported on our interest in Kilicsoy

Obligatory highlight reel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLUfkU6de3s

Seems powerful direct with good feet and a solid strike on him for such a young age.

Linked to Man City, Arsenal and Dortmund previously I see. One to keep an eye on perhaps.

Interesting highlight reel.

Clearly a confident kid, but quite a few of those chances went into the side netting when holding the ball up and waiting for support would've been the smarter move...

Looks a bit small to lead a prem attack but he's clearly comfortable playing up high, driving the line forward alone, and comfortable moving into the channels and taking defenders on 1-on-1. I wonder if Marco sees him more as a wide forward than a centre forward.

Could be a smart move. Clearly a lot of raw talent there.

He has played a fair few games at LW and RW - and we all know Marc likes players that can play multiple positions

Thatd be, brentford that finished 3 positions below us last year.

Yeh no bargain good transfers

Other than ya know

Leno
Tete
Tosin
Robinson (worth what 15-20x what we bought him for now if we chose to sell?)

Willian on a free
Traore on a free

Periera worth perhaps double what we paid for him.

Pretty much all of those worth more than we bought them for (if they signed their contracts unlike Tosin)

Even Bassey probably worth more now.

Reed has given us our moneys worth, castagne great, bollo toure did a fine job on loan.
Iwobi more expensive but has been a very good signing already

On top of this, its not just about profit alone but signing players who can contribute, but these players led us to back to back mid table finishes and a cup semi final booking extra cash for doing so.

I dont want this thread having one of its famous de-rails, but I also dont like it when you are being condenseding when someone makes a decent point

Yes Brentford finished below us last year and yes, we too have also made some really shrewd signings.
However, doing as you do by just looking back one season isnt fair. And I know some people on here hate it when Brentford is mentioned as a successfully run club but thats just a fact. Are they perfect? No, no club is. They do have a very interesting and extremely detailed approach to signings which have served them so well they have gone from a mid table Championship club to an established prem club, and they havent -unlike us- spent 100s of millions to get where we are today. Brentford arent perfect, but god knows neither are we.

I think our transfer policy and dealings have improved a lot since Silva came onboard. I dont know if thats a coincidence or not, hopefully not because that would mean we would be very vulnerable if he left.

If we look at Brentfords signing the last three seasons they were £30 million in the red 21/22, £40 million in the red in 22/23, and £60 million in the red last season. The only really "shrewd" signing through those years is Yoanne Wissa and perhaps Hickey. I think a lot of their supposed excellence is still riding high on their Championship record.

That's fine, you're entitled to not like it.

I don't like it when People instigate constant toxicity where it's not really necessary at all. it was a pretty tame response given reading yet another vitriolic message for no reason, with actually biting insulting language aimed at the usual recipient in the original message, to be quite frank. But seems you don't mind that and are happy to just overlook it and focus on the post reacting to it.

The Brentford comment was one line and a bit of a throw away tbh rather than pulling apart in absolute detail another rather toxic rant that's been talked on so many times before already. Which I could do and glad for the above posters context added too, but decided to keep it succinct as it wasn't worth it( for once) I'm well aware they've had some good transfer work historically, but so have we for years now, so a lot of us are a bit over the itching hate wagon at this point.

I don't think there's any reason for those clubs to "laugh" at our transfer policy even if some of them have had some good signings too, as we have for years now , so I just pointed that out in response to another unnecessarily rude and negative rant, that's all.

Just to get the rumours going again, I can always go to the pub tomorrow night and see if I can find that Ipswich fan who might  know Talbot!?  :slap:

Im not strictly speaking of their sell on success. Im talking about building a solid prem squad with bargains:

For example:
Janelt bought for 600k euro
Norgaard, bought for 3,5m euro
Jensen, bought for 3,8m
Mbuemo, bought for 6,5m
Toney, bought for 5,6m
Wissa, bought for 10m

And also:
Pinnock, bought for 3,5
Henry, bought for 1,8
Dasilva, free

And the ones they had before:
Jansson, bought for 5
Watkins, bought for 7,2m
Maupay, bought for 2m
Konsa, bought for 2m
Benrahman, bought for 2m
Raya, bought for 3,3m

Yes, its true that the last few years they have bought more than they have sold for.
17/18 they made a profit of 3 mil in transfers
18/19 they made 28 m profit
19/20 a loss of 390k
20/21 profit of 54 m
21/22 loss of 37m
22/23 loss of 45m
23/24 loss of 62m

We on the other hand have the following in transfer in/out:
17/18 loss of 4m
18/19 loss of 111m
19/20 loss of 8m
20/21 loss of 37m
21/22 loss of 15m
22/23 loss of 51m
23/24 loss of 19m

We are two different clubs, we are lucky to have had wealthy and ambitious owners over the years. But in no way can anyone claim Brentford arent just miles ahead of us in how they go about transfers. And of course, no system is perfect. Brentford have made some bad signings, just like we have. Is their way a guaranteed road to success? Probably not. But our scatter gun approach certainly isnt in the long run. Hopefully,as mentioned, we have sorted ourselves out in our transfer dealings and things will just keep on improving

Every single one of your examples of their good signings are from the Championship though, like I noted. Since promotion they haven't been able to get the same kind of bargains.

And had an actual point been made like this Duece it wouldn't have warranted or received the same response.

Perfectly reasonable albeit I disagree entirely with your conclusion that there's miles between us at this point. They've done well, so have we for years now and have assembled similarly competitive premier league teams.

No need for any extra over the top digs beyond that from others  (p.s much of the person in questions posts are in fact about selling on btw even if that's not your own point again which wasn't the issue)

They still have that core of players bought in for very little money, which is my point. Some have they sold on for a high profit, others have just become decent prem players. Thats still a very good business.

And regardless of whether their transfer success has diminished in the last couple seasons, we are still way off. Thats what I objected too in the first place - the idea that we are good at bargains and they arent based on one or two summers. You cant just look at the past 2 years or so, you need to widen the scope to make a fair assesment

Fair enough.

We have a 6 year streak of complete transfer losses and they havent, and we are now equals. Thats us squandered poo loads of money just to get here, and they havent.

Sure we are two different clubs and we have other revenues than Brentford perhaps. I just dont see how our approach to transfers is sustainable in the coming years, but lets see how we do. Its a fine line, not over spending and not being too cheap and miss out on quality players that elevated your side

At the end of the day, we all loves the club and dont want to see us do an Everton or Pompey.

So do we

No one said they aren't good at bargains, or haven't been before... that was an interpretation of what was being said based off of one throw away comment about Brentford not being able to "laugh at us" when it comes to transfers.

I don't think and have never said they have not had their own successes in the transfer market. I wouldn't laugh at them either, I just also don't think we're miles apart, in reality we actually rely on a similar stats scouting system and are often in for the same players

Squandering would be spending it and it not working. We've made a couple larger signings but by and large clearly haven't broken the bank of late because we're in zero ffp trouble where many others are so again I've little reason to worry about sustainability given were actively doing way better than many others in that regard

If we sold some of our key assets we bought for cheap, we likely wouldn't be at a loss but most of us want to keep them. Many of our squad are worth more than we bought them for but we want to keep building. We built the riverside because it's set to create what, a quarter of the clubs revenue going forwards and Sustainability has always been a word focussed on by those at the club. Not something I lose sleep on top much really , many other clubs in far worse positions comparatively. Anyway indeed we all mostly want the same thing , Fulham doing well
