It does seem a lot, agreed.

Handy if it is only us and Palace in it though.

Tabby

ESR seems like it'll be another Leno saga then. Oh well.

Quote from: Hugh Janus on July 15, 2024, 07:16:36 PMCHO went for £3m if rumour is to be believed. Is ESR really then worth £20m?

CHO went for a very little amount of money but there were also a ton of add ons and a huge sell on clause which was reportedly why we balked at Chelsea's demands and didn't buy him.

Also at the time CHO had done very little in the prem. ESR was one of Arsenals best players a few seasons ago and got 10 goals and two assists in 20 games of playing time which for a 10/winger is ridiculous.

40m? I'd be highly dubious we'd go that far and how on earth would this guy know what we're "willing" to go to, reckon that's b.s

I think we'd do well to offer 25m with add-ons up to 30 or just over based on performance bonuses. up to 35m if he wins a certain amount of England caps or something as then, presumably, he'd have been astonishing for us. Or a sell on percentage instead.

File this one under, will go for cheaper than 40m later in the window. Arsenal don't HAVE to sell, but come the end of the window - knowing he's not going to get much game time, a nice boost to their PSR for an academy product in and around the 30m region is going to get snapped up once it becomes obvious no ones punting 40m

Completely agree with this. I really want him and think he'd be quality. Arsenal are starting high as all clubs do. We wanted £60 million for Joao and we sold for £47.5. Sounds like he does want to leave and Arsenal want the pure profit so they are bound to come down.

The injuries are a big risk but he has a huge ceiling if we can keep him fit. Surely £25 million with a tonne of add ons to take it to £30 to £35 million is the solution for all parties here. No way Arsenal can be expecting to sell him for £35 to £40 million up front with his injury record. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes on all summer. Really hope we can find a deal on it.

Somerset Fulham

More on this £40m figure, but again, I would take this with a large heap of salt.

Actually, its the same story just reposted so ignore that.

The owners and clubs staff have put the club in the wrong footing silva brought in perlinha and Pierera and made them assets ream playing with Robinson for USA for quite a time sure he used his influence erring him to come to us,and our old Serbian manager got us mitro  which was an asset the rest bought by the club which were bought and run into the ground without being an asset and at the moment they can't get their big heads together and run the club properly they have starting working on the 21s and 18s moving them up earlier to mature them quicker to send them out on loan earlier which Jennings did not do for over 16 years chelsea often have 3 or 4 15 year olds in under 18s I noticed our new 21s coach was at Watford when silva was their coincidence I don't think so, they have professionally improved but better scouting will give us better players our club needs to get their act together so far 4 have left and so to improve the overall squad we need 6,4 replacements and 2 improvements.Remember if we stay up this season the following season cairney, teti, periera and
Possibly Robinson again 4 +2 improvements we are constantly trying to catch up to be at a standard 2 out 2in hopefully money for the 2 and good scouting for the2 brought in palace are doing it why can't fulham it starts from the top if silva leaves what next.

We are either the actual most incompetent club in the history of the world or this is a load of BS. No chance we told anyone what our maximum bid would be haha.

"Hey Arsenal we'll give you 25m for ESR but we are willing to go up to 40m so you just hold out for that"

Arsenal want 40m and we are offering 25m. I don't see a deal happening if that's the case

I agree. The club has established a pretty clear transfer history of maxing out on initial fees below 25 million. I can't see them establishing a new threshold above 30 million, especially for a player of ESR's uncertain caliber.

LC

I think we'll do a deal around £25-30m with add ons up to £40m for ESR. As long as the add ons are aggressive, i.e. winning a certain amount of England caps, achieving over a certain number of goals or assists etc- for a player like ESR I have no problem doing a deal like that, presuming there's no sell on fee that is.

Quote from: Deuce on July 15, 2024, 10:34:55 AMNewcastle reportedly wants to sell Wilson, and if Footballinsider are to be believed, they are open to selling him for about 11 mil.

If it were to be true, I wouldnt mind us having a go. Think he would be a perfect for us. Very underrated goalscorer and would really provide Muniz with competion but also be a good mentor for the Brazilian. A nice little 2-3 yr deal. And if Muniz isnt grabbing the goals, Wilson surely would.

The upside is that he has a very decent scoring record. In addition he knows the Prem. Downside, putting aside surgery in Feb he is 32 - but5/10 goals may make it a wise investment
There's injury prone & prone to injury! He fits both! £11m you'll never get your moneys worth with him?
No no and No.

ESR has 3 goal contributions in the past 2 premier league seasons

Jay Stansfield is 3 years younger, and also played across the front 4(at CF,LW, and CAM) had 14 goal contributions in a relegated championship side who had 4 managers(also fought his way into the 11 and scored for all 4).

Why sign have the club record signing be a rival reject who also has underperformed a loyal youth team star.

Emile Smith Rowe and Jay Stansfield are two completely different kind of players. One is a creative midfielder, other is a striker/forward.

Well they don't play in the same position for a start!

But when Smith-Rowe was the age Stansfield is now, he was playing regularly for a team that finished 5th in the top flight, and hit double figures for league goals

Have you actually watched BOTH players extensively or going off of vague numbers that don't tell the full story.

1. stansfield is a striker who's occasionally played out wide, he's not played as a CAM/winger much at all last year really, and has been starting up top in the championship. ESR is a CAM and LM who never plays as a striker.

2. ESR had some significant injuries in the season before last and since then has found himself behind club captain Oodegard and Martinelli which is has meant he's had infinitely less game time, in the premier league.

3. Those stats are based on 475 minutes of football for ESR last year and 241 minutes the season before, playing mostly random minutes off the bench as he recovered from injury and then found himself competing against way bigger talent than Jays faced. Jay played 3631 in the championship last year alone with useless competition for his place.

4. Prior to his injury ESR scored 10 goals and 2 assists on 1900 mins in the Premier league. He seems to have put those injuries behind him now. And even has England caps and a goal under his belt .

Ultimately the 2 would play in the same team together over competing with eachother. Jay as backup striker and ESR as CAM or LM. Jay might well come good and I'm hopeful he will, but so far he's yet to succeed at all in the premier league having only played 86mins and not looking up to much in that time. Now is his time to test himself and hopefully he succeeds big time.

But ESR has immense potential if injury free. Scoring 10 goals and 2 assists from CAM and LM and dominating teams before his injury is no mean feat. He's no "reject" most of my arsenal friends and family want to keep him but accept the player deserves to get way more minutes somewhere to establish himself as a top prem starter again. He'd get that here.

I hope we make it happen and he shows why so many are excited about his potential

Here he comes, Mr Football. If people still take him for gospel after the last window, I don't know what to tell you but this tweet is so revealing. 'Invest part of the budget from the Palinha deal'. He's literally guessing here. We had money before the Palinha deal. he has no idea what our budget is but he's added it to pretend like he's in on our budget value and to keep Arsenal fans happy that it's quite a bit. Such a dosser.

Quote from: Angus Telford on July 16, 2024, 09:23:55 AMFunny, if Rodrigo Muniz spent the next two seasons largely on our bench or in the treatment room and didn't score a single goal, in 2026 his full career stats would look about the same as ESR's do now. Would he be worth £40m?

It does feel a bit like ESR is still dining out on half a good season in 2021.

I don't think there's much chance at all that he's bought for 40m outright ...unless Everton, Forest, Villa or Newcastle are involved. Cos they've been selling nobodies for 35m

Muniz hasn't done it at a top 6 club which naturally raises fees (wether it should or shouldn't) and failed to make the team at Boro in the championship prior to his breakout patch last year..  and it's not like ESR was just a purple patch wonder he's showed quality performances for a while even in some european games. So I don't buy this dining out slant and neither do alot of arsenal fans whove watched him from the start. still they largely see a very good player whos showing in his cameos the talents still there but he just needs more minutes and is competing with 2 of the leagues best in his position, he's generally been a good young player and hyped coming through for years, a regular in all international youth teams as one of the hottest prospects culminating in a few caps and a goal for England.

We all know English players go for more too. Again, rightly or wrongly. I don't think he's currently worth 40m given the injury and then lack of being a starter atm, but I do think in this market stretching to 30 and considering significant performance add ons would not be overly surprising.

We "wanted" 60m for palhinha when Bayern bid 30 supposedly and we settled for 47m

If true that arsenal want 40...It seems we went in around 20 first and arsenal will probably settle for the 30 range with add-ons on top. In this market for young British, wouldn't be that surprising for a player like him. They don't have to sell him and he s not pushing to move

However we look at transfer and the potential of players and the price of players. It is always going to be a gamble. Sometimes players work and can fit into a side and sometimes they simply can't. Speculation is fun and enjoyable. But I leave it to those at the club to gamble wisely.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.
