We apparently had a bid turned down from Torino for Samuele Ricci (yet another DM) according to Tuttosport.

So thats what, 5 central midfielders who operate in a slightly deeper and more defensive role that we are currently linked with?

André, Souza, McT, Rios and Phillips.

Would be a disappointment given the other names we're linked with.

The only time any of these things matter is when Fulham come out and confirm they have signed someone, I just can't be bothered with it all.

My issue with Hojberg is very similar to my problem with Phillips or McTominay - these players do not want to be here, so why pursue them? It is possible to find players like that who do want to be here (e.g. Leno, Iwobi), so why waste so much time chasing players who think they are better than us?

What makes you think that all of Fulhams current players wanted to be part of Fulham when we tried to sign them , more than McTominay or Phillips?

😂 - would say Ricci has been on the list for quite a while, so not suprised we are in for him now. On the double pivot change, it's something we are going to be doing. ESR will get done as it is Silva's #1, but he knows stuff takes time.

Have to agree. Good player on his day but his legs are going already and he struggles when relied on for too many minutes. Which would be asked for at a club like ours.

Problem is, players will only 'want' to be at Fulham if their ceiling is not higher (ie. UCL or big six PL clubs), or they can't convince a Saudi club to give them a big wage. Leno and Iwobi only want to be at Fulham now because they're no longer good enough for Arsenal - if they were, they'd probably want to be there. It's the sad reality of being a lower mid-table club.

Good to have the reminder every 20 pages of every single silly season thread. Would call a wellness check on you otherwise.

Quote from: Drewry66 on July 20, 2024, 09:57:51 PMThey are both brilliant ball carriers with Ríos s stats even better than Andre s.

Sincere question: what stats are you looking at?

I had a look at Rios (WhoScored) and wasn't especially impressed.

Andre on the other hand looks the absolute business (eg 94% passing accuracy last year with an average 75 passes per game).

How many of them passes were short though?
Not to say it's bad but I remember ethuhu getting the best pass completion in the premier league one year but that's because his passes were only ever 2 to 5 yard shuffles to Danny Murphy.
As Andre is another DM I'd be worried his pass accuracy is high because of the amount of short passes he does.

Not sure where Drewry gets their stats, but I find FBRef to be really useful.

It basically takes each player's stats from Opta over the last 365 days and compares it to players in the same position who've played over a certain number of minutes in the past year.

https://fbref.com/en/players/72da065d/Richard-Rios

https://fbref.com/en/players/ec604e2c/Andre

You can see from this that Rios is basically a ball carrier and Andre is more of a passer.

WhoScored is great but FBRef is a bit more of a rough guide.

I enjoy the speculation a little bit, I find it interesting to see who the reporters are linking us with as its a good gauge to see what stature people outside of Fulham think of us, past couple of years we've been interested in similar players to the newly promoted teams, we seem more linked with similar to West ham/everton/Notts forest this year... does that mean we've improved our stature a little?
