Wow... Sess back is a typical sneaky Fulham signing. Great news!

ESR and Sess can play left so would be surprised if we see Willian again; unless Pereira is being sold with ESR/Iwobi/(possibly)TC competing for No.10. Ultimately I think at best it will be one of Willian/Pereira staying, not both. Wouldn't be surprised if both go tbh, unless Silva puts his foot down about Pereira staying one more season. if bot goes I hope ESR can take a free kick/corner!

I would be surprised to see Andreas leave. He's Marco's personal signing. It's a pity he was not as effective last season, he was the most effective when paired with a target man like Mitro which is not the role Muniz plays.

Fwiw Its a myth that he was marcos personal signing we were linked to periera years before Marco joined us. He was one of those wed been looking at for a while and were rumoured to be in for a number of times when he was getting loaned about by Utd. Likely marco also wanted him but he was already on our radar

Not quite. Jokanovic complained that he wanted him but he was vetoed by Kline and his stats team, so our former manager wanted him but he club at the time didn't.

Don't forget we lost BDR, so bringing back Willian, especially on a free like Sess is a small fee to pay for squad depth and the quality Willian had. Let's not forget Willian was one of our key players last season when he got up to scratch after joining late in preseason and sess and ESR have injury records.

Building out a squad I think would include all three. In addition to Traore and Iwobi, with ESR and Iwobi also filling in more centrally, would probably be us done in the attacking areas, especially when you include Wilson, minus perhaps getting in a class striker, but with those players feeding Muniz and Jimenez you'd like to think they'd start being reliable strikers.

Weirdly, didn't we score the most goals we'd ever scored in a PL campaign last season.

I think where we need improving now is in CM/DM and in defence.

Get in Andre and one other and then LB competition and a RCB and we're done for this summer I reckon.

I don't see see as a LB/LWB - I know he played there for us, but I think he's better suited to LW and further up the field. I don't think defensively he's that solid at PL level, though happy to be proven wrong. I think we'd still need a solid LB option to compete with Robinson.
He played mostly LWB for Spurs in the starts he had when fit under Jose and then Conte, and actually looked really good defensively - couple of times he played against Liverpool he shut Salah down.

I'd be concerned if he was our starting LB, but very confident with him as back-up (with Bassey able to move into the spot if needed too).

So he was a slav personal signing 🤣.

Yup there were rumours kline stopped the deal, who was later dumped ( Remember that drama btw?) years later following some loans away from utd and in klines absence it was sanctioned. Will say regardless though marco did play a major part in convincing him to come, something frequently reiterated by players coming in. Hes a great man manager for sure and were lucky to have him

Ah fair enough. But without Marco, Pereira probably wouldn't be here. The Portugueuse/Brazilian connection probably helped convince him.

Thames Bank 1

MS said he wants 2 players in the squad for each position, Ses will benefit from MS, as have a lot of the players who have worked under him here

Agree with that!

Clearly under marco and his staff weve had an influx of Portuguese speaking players, not a bad talent pool to pull from!

Agreed about Ryan being a better LW than LB, but given Jedi's impeccable fitness/disciplinary record - and with Castagne, Bassey and (currently) Ream able to slot in at LB if needed, I wonder if we might postpone the LB hunt for the meantime...

Doesnt matter if hes Marcos personal signing if Pereira himself wants to explore his option and go elsewhere. If im not mistaken, there was an alledge interview with him where he express just that desire

Yup, Wasnt alleged, he explicitly stated it and was quoted directly as suggesting he and his agent would be exploring their options regarding his future suggesting he wanted to play top level European football

Yeah, I think he said this on Rio Ferdinand's podcast in April

If Andreas wants to go with ESR coming in then I will say thanks and good luck because he's been great for us.

Exactly, that's what I said in the other thread more or less.

If we get ESR and Andre done (and Sessegnon of course), a new rcb is the only position that is an absolute necessity, imo.

Quote from: Angus Telford on July 25, 2024, 01:03:32 PMVery enthused by the age and technical quality of all the deals that seem to be close.

I think the problem with having such an old squad is that we needed a big summer just to rejuvenate it like this.

ESR probably replaces Willian, Sessegnon supplements the increased injury risk around ESR, and Andre essentislly replaces Palhinha. Just as Bassey and Iwobi largely replaced the ageing Ream and Cairney in the team last year.

Still think we need to replace Tosin, and another forward to correct the longstanding shortfall in quality from Muniz versus Mitrovic, just to be a competitive top half team like we were in 22/23. But this time we'll be doing it with an average age of 25 rather than 28/29, which is a major progression.

Agree the links are clearly mostly to exciting younger talent, though I dont think the age has been "a problem" as such, its gone mostly to plan and could well be by design. coming back into the league we needed players who could reliably perform now in this moment to keep us up and then establish us in this league. now weve done that successfully, we can look to keep that base and build in some youth. Maybe this was the intention, but this was always going to be a big summer anyway for us now the funds are there, so good timing to be more forward focussed now that we have a base squad of proven quality to inject youth and up coming talent into.

Hard to replace Mitro, hes a unique level of goalscoring not seen really in our history but Muniz is showing growing signs of improving further and still young, And were yet to see what stansfield can add,he probably deserves a chance. It could be they have an insane season, it could be they dont quite hit the heights well see, If we add ESR (and sess) we may be generally improving the attack further + hopefully a fitter Traore available for more games this year.

Agree We certainly still need at least 1 more CB though, although Ive always seen Diop as possibly marginally better than Tosin would love a quality CB singing this window. Well see if thats Chalobah.

Getting excited to see how we shape up come september now. Feels like bits of the jigsaw are falling into place nicely

I can't make this tweet preview for some reason but it is Ryan's older brother seeming to confirm the move.

Sess deal being reported as 2 year deal on a free with a club option to extend a year. Looks smart to me given his injury record
