i think Pereira is staying

"This season, we have to aim a little bit higher," Pereira insists. "After two years consolidating our place in the Premier League, it looks different at Fulham now. We need to look a little bit like Brighton have done, aim for that."

Exactly my thoughts (which I've been criticised for on here ironically)

You'll get criticism on here for any post that challenges the club. The way to avoid criticism is to lavish all players and management with praise and declare your gratitude and excitement for all that is to come!

Should be coming into his prime at 27 and I feel he only got dropped because we were trying to convince Tosin to sign a new contract.

He Makes the occasional headline mess up for sure but lots of CBs do, and Tosin seemed to do 1 or 2 a game. Hes tall and physical and Im still hopeful we see the best of him. I think there are smarter CBs out there but I hope he gets a chance to fight for the RCB spot

I think apart from the odd lapse defensively he is excellent. There was a period when he had a run in the team where he was pretty outstanding defensively. His ball carrying is decent. The massive problem is his progressive passing. He's just very uncomfortable on the ball and we just looked more of a threat going forward with Tosin in the team as progressive passing was one of his big strengths. Having said that should we bring Andre in everything would probably start with him anyway which could really help Diop who will just have to pass it 5 yards to him. I think Diop can do well. Still want someone very good in however who is pushing him for a starting place.

These messages a gross misrepresentation for whats been said

There is " dreaming of" which we all agree we should aim for, and then beyond that people call for realism about the realities of understanding the cyclical nature of the league, that it can also be a game influenced by luck and fine margins too and call out the idea that anything other than year on year upwards is some sort of abject failure and sign of utter incompetence. There is a middle ground. You can want the club to do all they can within the realities of balancing books ffp etc to compete with the big boys and also understand the history of fulham, the reality of the amount of great clubs trying to do the same in this league and see that comparatively were doing well to be probably in the top 5-10% range of historical finishes currently

So no, you don't have to just be pure roses and blind praise, many here do find that balance and dont have an issue.

I think most people see this window as an important one to push on especially given the financial situation, fortunately the club seem to steadily be obliging and so absolutely we should aim for those things now were settled in the league a bit more. Long term thats always the hope for everyone. Some just dream of it without suggesting anything other than that is a sign that those in charge of the club are utterly useless.

Its a message board and as such this general statement goes both ways, when either side makes a strong or potentially extreme point theres usually a contrary point made.

Agreed.
I actually always rated Diop higher than Tosin, and said so numerous timea here. Tosin has got more passing range but that's about it. Diop is better at everything else. I do hope we'll get an excellent rcb to compete with him though, like we did at lcb with Cuenca and Bassey.

Thames Bank 1

I think we are building something special at the club, top quality players being looked at and hopefully get over the line. Why not look at winning a trophy, who would have said we would have been at both FA and Europa league finals, after all we are supposed to be little Fulham

Yeh I agree I marginally preferred him to Toson. As for Cuenca Im hopeful but also cautious in my optimism as I know very little about him. Hopefully he can prove to be as useful at this level as Ream or better but time will tell.

Agree we certainly need to get another RCB in the door before end of the window and Im sure we will. Not too desperate given I rate Diop enough to not worry if he starts the season too much at this stage.

Agreed - it does seem to be going that way and I think Marco has a big part to play in that. He's seemingly brought everyone on board and pushing in the right direction. A very close semi vs liverpool last season.. and this summer, if all goes to plan, will see us have a much stronger team/squad.

Things are looking up and long may it continue.

You'll get criticism on here for any post that challenges the club. The way to avoid criticism is to lavish all players and management with praise and declare your gratitude and excitement for all that is to come!

When challenged, the Club is not in a position to defend itself on this forum or put forward a different slant on a matter. It rests upon other forum members to do so and, invariably, someone does. These replies, I find, are usually no more critical than the posts that prompted them. Not uncommonly, the more forceful the attack, the more forceful needs to be the argument that defends against it.

Didn't realise he made 38 appearances last season which suggests he's over the Achilles injury

Unsure this one has legs - doesn't fit the transfer strategy this window. Wouldn't mind being proved wrong.

I've seen a few comments re Andre going cold.  Andre is going to happen, very confident of that. We are playing the long game with him and FLU need to sell due to their financial situation.

Mctom is a steal at 25, we should (and are) all over him at that price. Future captain material.
Really hope you're correct re Andre

hovewhite

If Andre was a red herring and doesn't appear then McTominay and ESR we will still have taken a big step forward if backed up by 2 CBs.

Quote from: Bronaldinho on August 02, 2024, 08:50:41 AMMitro Money = £50m
Palhinha Money = £50m

ESR = 34m
McTominay = 25m
Andre = 25m
Sess = Free
Cuenca = 6m

100m in, 90m out.

There's been a few mentions of the Mitro money like its still sat in the bank. Are people forgetting we bought Iwobi for £26m and Castagne for £15m after the Mitro sale?

I think something has changed for the better for us re Andre. He's rarely left out without a reason from the team, let alone squad. Some journos said we put in a better offer and Fluminense have also got closer and closer to getting in a replacement.
Was mentioned on here the other day they had signed a replacement already

f**K knows what's actually going on - I give up! I would like us to sign him.

Go figure - I think i'm going to stop listening to journalists. None of them seem to know what they're doing - which given it's their profession is slightly concerning.

Perhaps we're being slow because we're waiting on Cuenca and ESR ? Though we've signed them, so that doesn't stack up really. Wonder if going for Diego Carlos is a cheaper option than others due to his age and him apparently wanting out and if that'll free up the difference in cash we need to meet other valuations.

Quote from: General on August 02, 2024, 06:13:21 AMJust had a slightly deeper look into Mctominay's career stats and interestingly he's largely been played by Man Utd as a defensive midfielder and done well in that position. Last season was the season he played the most as a CM and not a DM and his output for scoring went up considerably. He played around 32 games with what seems like a relatively even split across DM and CM, scoring 1 goal from DM and 6 from CM. He scored those 6 goals from 16 games as a CM.

Interestingly, he hardly if ever scores when playing as an AM or SS.

The reason he has rarely played there is because Man U have had better players than him in those positions over the last several years - Fernandes, Pogba, Eriksen, Mata and probably even at the time Fred and Lingard.

Quote from: Drewry66 on August 02, 2024, 09:41:49 AMBall carrying pretty similar to Reed and Lukic and same with defensive stats. I think most think Reed and Lukic feel they are pretty good defensively so no issue with similar stats. Man U prob dominate possession more as well so naturally lower. Really good point from General re him playing DM against some of the biggest teams in Europe and doing well. Can't be as bad defensively as some Man U fans are making out.

Man U fan comments seem to be very mixed from useless to very good. Many say he can't pass or defend. I'd say overall they are way more positive about him than they were about AP. My Man U mates laughed at me when we bought AP. Whose laughing now when there is talk of him going for over double what we paid for him. McT has played in an absolute shambles club for years. Like AP I think Marco can improve him dramatically and get the best out of him and he'll hopefully add much needed goals. If we can do this for £25m I think it's a great deal and looking more and more promising this.
He's not awful defensively but he absolutely cannot play as a lone DM, and he needs to play alongside someone who is much more positionally disciplined and able to mop things up.

When he has done well as part of a double pivot, it has been alongside a proper defensive/holding player like Casimeiro or Matic. Whereas in the last few years when he's been paired with someone who is also less disciplined like Pogba, Fred, Mainoo or Eriksen (like against us at CC last season) their midfield has consistently been far too open.

I'm very much open to signing him as he would be an upgrade on Reed and Lukic in that 3rd midfield slot, but he is just simply not a No.6.

Diop is a very good defender. I'm very happy we signed him, and continue to be happy with him playing regularly for us.

But pairing him and Bassey poses a problem offensively in Marco's system where the CBs need to be comfortable receiving the ball against the press and do a lot of progressive passing.

I doubt we'll chop and change CB pairings regularly, but Bassey is our best defender, and therefore you need an RCB who is going to better compliment him. Similarly I think if there are injuries to our new RCB then Marco may go horses for courses and select Cuenca over Bassey to partner Diop.

Absolutely. We must get André as well who will do nothing but sit as a 6.
