I think people under rate diop tbh.

Should be coming into his prime at 27 and I feel he only got dropped because we were trying to convince Tosin to sign a new contract.

He Makes the occasional headline mess up for sure but lots of CBs do, and Tosin seemed to do 1 or 2 a game. Hes tall and physical and Im still hopeful we see the best of him. I think there are smarter CBs out there but I hope he gets a chance to fight for the RCB spot

Diop is a very good defender. I'm very happy we signed him, and continue to be happy with him playing regularly for us.

But pairing him and Bassey poses a problem offensively in Marco's system where the CBs need to be comfortable receiving the ball against the press and do a lot of progressive passing.

I doubt we'll chop and change CB pairings regularly, but Bassey is our best defender, and therefore you need an RCB who is going to better compliment him. Similarly I think if there are injuries to our new RCB then Marco may go horses for courses and select Cuenca over Bassey to partner Diop.

I like the point you make about the "best defender" as that's where these two (Diop & Bassey) excel. They're tough, defend with purpose and aggression. But the flip is as you say, they're not that good with ball at their feet, compared to Ream and Tosin for example. This all means we needs a MF to come and fetch off of them. There were plenty of examples last season where we saw this, made errors and conceded goals.

For those interested, apparently 19 yrs old and a left winger by the looks of it..  would play in to my belief we need another winger. Looks an exciting although raw prospect.


Looks like Muniz would have to tackle him to get the ball....

You'll get criticism on here for any post that challenges the club. The way to avoid criticism is to lavish all players and management with praise and declare your gratitude and excitement for all that is to come!

These messages a gross misrepresentation for whats been said

There is " dreaming of" which we all agree we should aim for, and then beyond that people call for realism about the realities of understanding the cyclical nature of the league, that it can also be a game influenced by luck and fine margins too and call out the idea that anything other than year on year upwards is some sort of abject failure and sign of utter incompetence. There is a middle ground. You can want the club to do all they can within the realities of balancing books ffp etc to compete with the big boys and also understand the history of fulham, the reality of the amount of great clubs trying to do the same in this league and see that comparatively were doing well to be probably in the top 5-10% range of historical finishes currently

So no, you don't have to just be pure roses and blind praise, many here do find that balance and dont have an issue.

I think most people see this window as an important one to push on especially given the financial situation, fortunately the club seem to steadily be obliging and so absolutely we should aim for those things now were settled in the league a bit more. Long term thats always the hope for everyone. Some just dream of it without suggesting anything other than that is a sign that those in charge of the club are utterly useless.

Its a message board and as such this general statement goes both ways, when either side makes a strong or potentially extreme point theres usually a contrary point made.

I said a well run club should progress over a rolling 2-3 year period and not stagnate. Exactly what perreira is saying.

Semantics but as you're here again, If the period is cherry picked as a rolling 2-3 period, then no need to be as strong as to say weve stagnated anyway is there, as over that period we still finished better last year than 2 seasons before where we were in the championship,we werent heading back there having been relegated or even close to, so...still doing well having consolidated in the prem over your 3 year window, and reached a cup semi final. But yes we could then just go, no now our direction is dictated by 2 years rolling period to suit whatever narrative were predisposed to seek,but thats basically year on year at that point isnt it comparing this season to last 🤷🏻

If Andre was a red herring and doesn't appear then McTominay and ESR we will still have taken a big step forward if backed up by 2 CBs.

I think McT takes Palhinha's place on the teamsheet (albeit a different player) and ESR replaces Willian. Two CBs replace Tosin and Ream.

Is that an improvement overall? IMO no.

Need another good CB (an addition to the Villareal guy), Andre or an equivalent marquee signing in midfield, and another forward at least to compete with Muniz, before we can say we've improved IMO.

Yup gotta admit I hope its not just Scott only. Would have to trust Marco in that instance but would suprise me if we didnt bring in an andre type

As for striking options we have for me improved our options purely because weve added Stansfield as an option. How much weve improved will be down to how Jay gets on,could be marginally or a negligible amount. Could be significantly and he pushes muniz and jiminez well have to see. Would be suprised to see us spend big there though , the team and Marco seem to believe very much In Rodrygo being the main man and continuing to improve.

Wesley looks very exciting, but would probably need a year or two before he's ready to play in the PL. If we can get him for around 15m then I'd be all over it, but last I saw Corinthians wanted closer to 25m for him and that's just too much. They are having financial difficulties so they do need to sell him so possible there is a deal at the end of the window.

West Ham and Forest have also been in for him but they've both signed a couple wingers this window so that may play into our hands.

This is how I see it too. Though all useful players, a Bassey, Diop & McTominay defense probably can't thrive in the prem. We need Andre or a better passing RCB.

I thought he said he would be happy if McTominay stayed not that he wanted him to stay unless there is another comment I have missed. Man Utd have Urgate from PSG lined up and need to sell before they can confirm (similar to needing to Sell Wan Bisake and a centre back before signing the 2 Munich players)

Means nothing - they want Urgate from PSG. Can't afford him without selling McTom. I would urge calm about our situation with Andre. I've heard promising noises that he will join at some point this window.

Not the kind of words I'd expect from someone accepting he could leave the club.

Might need to temper expectations on this one.

I saw that but it didnt strike me as saying he wanted him in the squad. If they did why are they trying to sign Urgate knowing they need to sell, they would need to off load Casemiro or McTominay and the Saudi interest in Casemiro seems to have gone cold. Mctominay has 2 maybe 3 clubs wanting him, so praising him up keeps the price high. Something to keep in mind as well is he was told last year he wasnt seen as a starter in the first team, and they tried to sell him or had agreed a fee with West Ham but he chose to stay, is it a case of the same this year as it is known they are willing to listen to offers, again no idea myself but just something that strikes me as odd between what he has said and what the club are doing.

Agree we need to temper expectations but i have slightly different take to your good self. I also think it is possible that we are using this to push Fluminese hard to agree to our terms for Andre, although I like the sound of both of them in our midfield.
