Tobido to West Ham. Remember he turned us down in favour of benfica,  and reportedly wanted Juve this time out but seemingly they haven't come up with the goods.

The Hammers following their European exploits and decent finish last year having a positive-looking window tbf at least in terms of their chances next year. Spending ALOT of cash already mind you.

Kilman 40m (that's a significant overpay for me)
Summerville 25m+ (exciting but untested, would have liked him here though he looks a real tricky exciting player)
Fullkrug 27m (Old and not the quickest but a proven goalscorer in Germany for many years)
Guillherme 25.5m (don't know much but reportedly an exciting up-and-coming wing talent, time will tell)
Guido Rodríguez Free

+ the biggest of them all of course.....Wes Foderingham on a free

The type of team along with Villa and Brighton we'll be trying to emulate in the coming years to compete in that pack of those teams  + maybe Palace for that outside chance of Europe (albeit Palace are seemingly being decimated this summer.)

No mentions of any fees yet. Wonder what that'll end up costing but clearly a good CB and lot of smoke now. Would be happy with him at CB and having lost Ream perhaps a more steady slightly older head might be worth having back there to help Bassey and Diop.

I Like Chalobah but the prices quoted were pretty wild, I'd say Deigo is probably the better of the 2 currently, Trevoh of course much younger and could turn out a great CB long term but I like the idea of the experienced Diego alongside Bassey.

Seen reported somewhere that it would be €25-30m

If ya spot the source can ya link it?
That seems on the spenny side for a 31-year-old CB. Whilst he's been fine for a while he did have a significant injury too a year ago. They paid £26m for him 2 years ago I gather when he was 29.

Not a chance that Fulham would offer or pay anywhere near that.  His value on Transfermarkt is less than £14m and I would suspect our openning bid would be below £10m. If a deal is agreed it will probably be around £10-11m

Eurgh if Fabrizio is on it with that little detail this has all the hallmarks of another transfer saga unravelling before our eyes. Fees not disclosed or discussed, vagueness... I wonder what budget we'd have in mind for a 31 yr old with two years to his contract given we aren't budging much on McTominay or Andre deals so far and there's £5m difference between what the clubs want vs what we're supposedly willing to offer.

He does seem like a potentially solid signing though IF we can get it over the line and not wait too long.

Transfermrkt has never been a reliable source for a players worth sadly. It's the one thing they're normally quite a bit off on I find.

No chance we're paying that. I would have thought we'd be willing to spend up to around 15mil at the very max.

nearer his worth,I'm sure there are alternatives and cheaper around Europe.

On the Villa threads they were saying a fee of 10m would be fare. I'm sure the way we do business we can get him for less.

Agree. Even at that figure plus salary it would make him far and away the most expensive player on the books.

If Villa sell him for much less than 15 million they would likely incur a loss.

I have a hard time seeing his transfer to Fulham financially which is probably why Saudi keeps getting mentioned.

He's earning around £100k at Villa so aligned with our top earners (and would also be aligned roughly to what we're paying ESR)

Always nice being linked to a player that isn't written off by the fans of the team you're buying from. Most say that he suffered as he was adapting to the English league and over coming a bad injury and that he didn't suit the managers style and will thrive at Fulham  ::scarf::

We also need to appreciate he still was their starting CB the year they came fourth and got into the CL. So it's not like he was doing poorly in the first place. If we get him for £10m or under, like some have suggested figures are being talked about, even by Villa fans, then it'd seem like a smart move.

We'd be quite a Brazilian squad then - Muniz, Pereira - perhaps Carlos and Andre, potentially all starters... Will Willian then come back, will he start too? that'd be almost half a first team of potential starters.

Quote from: General on August 09, 2024, 08:30:10 AM
Quote from: colinwhite on August 09, 2024, 08:04:33 AMAngus . We all want more transfers ,and quicker ones with even better players and it should all happen in pre season.
The difference between yourself and others frustration is that you question the ability and competence of the people running our recruitment policy ,when it is clear that they do know what they are doing ,and have clearly got a record in recent seasons of providing the club with some really excellent players at very good value for the club.
No club gets it right all the time but we  have a side currently put together by Marco silva and the recruitment team . A lot of points that you make are reasonable so it's shame if people just scroll past your posts as you keep banging the same drum all the time .
We all want the same thing .We  clearly are nowhere near finished yet in buying players this window.

I think it's slightly harsh to single Angus out. The club have brought in some great players and done well in that regard over the last couple of seasons, but their transfer policy isn't exactly the best. Both things can be true.

It's great we've got in ESR and was great to have Palhinha at the club, and it's been great to see Marco shine, Bassey, Castagne, Leno, Willian etc all arrive and do well - though credit has to be given to Marco a lot too for this.. there are differences between transfers succeeding and failing normally based on managers (Willian failed at Arsenal, Leno was a sub goalie.. Pereira hardly played at Utd.. Paintsil was in west ham's reserves etc, Murphy was out of favour..

But the club is often very slow to do important business and I think it's fair to expect them to try and do it earlier in the window. I appreciate it's not always that easy, so have calmed a bit, but it does leave a lot open to risk to leave it so late - players change minds, clubs change minds, other clubs come in... Transfers aren't an exact science..

It also took a long time for the new ownership and structures below them to find their footing and be stable - long gone are the years of three managers in a season (happening twice), Felix Magath, nearly getting caught up in a relegation battle in the Championship and having disastrous seasons in the PL after getting promoted, either via the playoff or as champions because the management (Parker), or squads weren't quite right..

Progress has been made by the club and transfer team, which is lovely to see and reassuring, but there's more that can be done and it's not unreasonable to want to expect or encourage the club to take that next step to get the same quality of players in but earlier in the transfer window so they can bed in quicker and we can have a whole squad and know what our squad is for the whole season.

Perhaps we can't, our budget is too tight, and we're too small of a club to do that, maybe we need to go very slowly like this because we're having to rely on getting bargains and then selling them on for a major profit as our main way to grow, and simply put, that takes years and being slow but methodical..

I can get behind that and understand it as a strategy and it seems reasonable to me, but I do still think it's taken the club under the Khan's a long time to learn lessons that can seem pretty self evident. We were out of the PL in any meaningful way and a yoyo club for around 10yrs don't forget.

I look forward to the day when the club is more aggressive and decisive with it's transfer policy - almost every other club manages to be, so by comparison, there's no real reason we shouldn't be able to.

Time will tell if it's finely tuned and everything is meticulously deliberate to the point it's 'all for a reason'... but I can't help but think, even if it was, it could have been done quicker.

I think that's a fair assessment too and one many fans would share.
Dont disagree General ,but the point is none of us know the reasons for delays in players we are supposedly after know do we ?  to then bang on about a flaw in the running of the club when none of us have really got clue how this actually works ,seems bit arrogant given the recent record of signings in the last few windows .
Signing ESR looks pretty impressive from where I am sitting !

itombomb

As I said before, Carlos would make us better, and we were apparently willing to pay Toisin around £100K a week. Would be happy, if not delighted, with that signing.

But as with all of these things, our approach tends to be negotiating for multiple targets in the same position. All I think this indicates is we definitely want a RCB, and Carlos is on the list.

ffc73

Many pages back it was reported (Fabrizo &/or Ornstein ?) that Diego Carlos had told us he was not coming to us and going back to Sevilla.  Medicals arranged for a week or so ago.

Obviously, that never came to pass if he is still at Villa....

Quote from: Arthur on August 09, 2024, 01:06:28 AMI would say its purpose is to suggest a decline in how the Club operates - a decline that (were it true) serves to further validate your dissatisfaction.

Far from it. I think the administration of the club has been on a broadly improving trend for about nine years now, but from a base/reference level that was probably the worst in our history and close to the worst example of how to run a club in the history of professional football. Thus, whilst we're much, much better run these days, IMO it still falls short of our potential. My residual gripe is our penny-pinching and consequential transfer inefficiency (evidenced by me being bored enough to have this argument) and the ethical questionability of that is just another drawback I was highlighting.

A tip for life: if you have to make contorted, baseless and speculative leaps in your interpretation of something in order to be right, you're probably wrong.

I don't doubt you think the administration of the Club has been broadly improving. Within this broad improvement, however, you were, by your own admission here, suggesting an ethical deficiency - which you used to lambast the Club. What purpose does the inclusion of the Robinson transfer serve if not to show the Club is now behaving less ethically than it was previously? In a word, a 'decline'. Of course I'm speculating - but my interpretation is neither baseless nor contorted. (As we are where we are, dare I say your use of the phase 'penny-pinching' to describe a difference in valuation between ourselves and Fluminense of, by all accounts, somewhere between 20% and 25% of what we have offered is somewhat of a contortion in meaning.) I'll make this my last word.
