It is expensive, luckily the source is of no value

Maybe an option to buy with the 10 off if we decide to purchase?

Hmm. He's 28, I'm not sure it'd make sense. Spend that much on a loan for a year, he's then 29 and over his supposed peak years. £10m on a loan is pricey, especially for a player who's hardly played and not really impressed when he has, e.g. at West Ham. It'd suggest to me that his fee too would be quite steep as It'd not make sense to loan for so much, when we're looking at younger starters for a sum where that £10m would make a significant difference.

Could only make sense if we had confidence of what he could do for a season, which we don't really, and then It'd free us up again for a bigger budget signing next summer when we've amortised other transfers etc. Is a risk though given how little he's played etc as mentioned.

I would have thought we would have seen something about our Andersen bid by now. I guess they are considering it

Yes very interesting that they haven't rejected it yet. The £25m bid seemed to get rejected immediately. This suggests no response yet and we are waiting:

I think they will reject it but do wonder idle we are close to something that they would go for. Maybe they'll counter propose?

I think they're waiting to see if Marc Guehi stays or leaves- I doubt they let both go. With that in mind I don't think our bid gets rejected, but more amended- structure payment, add ons etc.

I hope it happens

That and I don't expect Palace or Fulham to announce a signing mid week before the 1st game. Especially of such an important player to a team competing for the same league standing.

I imagine both managers want a more settled week of training before the 1st match.

Quote from: FFC1987 on August 14, 2024, 08:00:42 AMI always thought Palace could pay higher wages than us which is why whenever we were both linked to a player (similar to Westham before Europe success) it was us on the back foot. Maybe that's changed.

Possibly although supposedly ESR came here amidst interest there (will never know how far they got with their offers for him of course but it was rumoured they approached the player)

Palace have a smaller wage bill / structure to us. We generally pay more.

What are you basing this off mate? Looking at current projected and last two years, Palace have a significantly higher wage bill? I could well be wrong but as I mentioned, the ability to pay higher wages almost seemed to be in Palaces favour.

Quote from: hovewhite on August 14, 2024, 09:56:54 AMTypical Fulham playing a game chess with clubs now, frustrating as a supporter isn't it.

Suppose only if ya look at it short term (or dont trust the overall strategy of course) imo. These players are hopefully with you for at least 2-5 years + so for the sake of 3 games (2 against promoted teams) it seems to make business sense.

I take the view that strong negotiations that have and can potentially lead to significant saved money, can mean more budget that can make us stronger all round  in theong run - with additonal signings elsewhere, or improved bids for other top targets etc. And of course ensuring long term sustainability and compliance with regulations that means we shouldnt be threatened with points sanctions etc.

Of course I appreciate its possible you may miss targets if someone moves quicker or gazumps you but thats all part of the balancing act. The hope is it pays off more often than it loses. Heres hoping🤞🏼

I think the idea of getting the "right player" for 2-5 years is undermined to a large extent by our tendency to bid simultaneously on multiple players in the same position, start with low (almost tentative) bids, remain uncertain as to who we'll get until the end of the window, and ultimately base the decision on who's "going cheap".

Surely if you're targeting a particular that's when you go in early, and assertively with your offer level. Our strategy is the opposite.

Duh - the decision on who comes in is ultimately up to MS and he said as much towards the end of the summers transfer window last season. When asked about a replacement for Mitro - he said that who ever came in would have to be approved by him and not be just any old replacement.
It makes no sense for TK and AM to bring someone in who is not approved by MS, the player will not get game time and they could have just kept the money in the bank.

You may have heard the phrase about not confusing value for money with cheapness ?
If I remember correctly someone on here reported that TK had said that waiting until the end of the window often meant that we were able to get better value for our transfer cash. He didn't say anything about cheapness.

Are you suggesting that we should pay top dollar and not negotiate? The effect of which will be to reduce the number or quality of players that we can buy.

I'm not suggesting anything, my personal preference/style would be to identify exactly who we want and be prepared to pay a reasonable premium on market value to get them, but I respect the arguments for the alternative, more opportunistic 'moneyball' type approach. My point was just that they're two mutually exclusive alternatives and you can't, without some cognitive dissonance, simultaneously praise us for these shrewd, less discriminate money-saving tactics on the one hand whilst simultaneously saying our emphasis is on narrowly and very specifically targeting certain individuals for specific long-term/project needs.

As an aside, saying Marco has some say is frankly meaningless, it goes without saying. Even Symons had some say under the infamous 'three ticks' model together with scouting and the stats team. That doesn't tell you whether Marco is able to say "I want Andre, do what it takes to get him" or does he just get to say, "I want a DM" and AM says "ok, we'll look at Andre, McTominay and Phillips and see which makes the most economic sense."

Regarding the last paragraph, It could be both things tbf nothings black and white and im sure it probably depends on the situation. Although it has been said that marco does also get involved with more than just position selection and is an active part of drawing up the actual shortlists of targets together with the other departments. And where he feels particularly passionate about someone they are open to listening to him as they trust him (as per Muniz)

Fwiw, In marcos interview today theres a whole section at 11mins where he says directly that in talking to ESR, his personal communications with Emile and the enthusiasm he felt from him for our project is what convinced him to passionately get behind the move and present that info to the board as a reason to really encourage them strongly to go after him.

So It seems pretty clear  cut that Marco has plenty of say beyond something trivial. Additionally TK said openly in an old interview that despite previous open door offers, Parker was the first manager to really get involved in transfers/tape watching more deeply and joined transfer discussions more than previous managers... that the offer had always been there but he was more active than others. Then since says that marco took that up another level and he has said hes even more involved in the process and he loves working with him closely on it all. So theres plenty evidence for that being the case.

But as I say, id imagine the reality is its most likely a bit of both, an understanding the team have to balance budgets generally, but nit being so rigid that he cant speak up when he feels passionately about a move. Rarely is it one rule always for such things but where marco is super convinced he clearly has the ability to really press such matters as he says he has (as he also reportedly did before with Muniz)

So as ever theres so much we dont see behind the scenes and so best to just see how it plays out imo and trust that they clearly have method to their approach here wether we know every detail or not. What will be will be

Heres hoping we all enjoy the results once the window concludes

Andersen/ or another cb, and Andre/McTom and I think that we are done.

Where did hothead Vini go?

I personally would like to see two central midfielders come into the club but it looks like we will probably only get one.

I was just reading this article on skysports: https://www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11095/12213077/harvey-elliott-liverpool-ordered-to-pay-fulham-record-compensation-fee-for-16-year-old

It outlines that once Harvey Elliot reaches 100 appearances for Liverpool we get a payout. Elliot crossed that barrier last season for Liverpool so that should also add to our transfer chest this summer. Just reading through the article we also get another payout if he's called at senior level for England and we also get a 20% sell on fee.

Brighton dropping £40 million on Rutter makes ESR seem like a bargain.

Granted they had to trigger his release clause, so paid top end...

but 8 in 51 at 22 yrs old to Stansfields 13 in 47 at 21yrs old last year...
Maybe stannos worth 50m after all 😂

They must think they can improve his finishing or could play him wide or something, because his all round game is better or at least more flashy than Jay but he's a very questionable finisher

Agreed ESR in comparison is an insane bargain, 10x the player. But hey Muniz didnt even play at boro and look how he came on last year... 40m though, yikes

We Are Premier League

Sounds like Ipswich are getting Cajusted from Napoli on loan with 10m obligation to buy, think he could be a good option for us.

Having seen Cajuste play quite a lot (for Sweden), I am not convinced he is PL ready. Very uneven performances so far. For us, I don't think he would have gotten many minutes. For Ipswich, maybe he can get the playing time he needs in order to develop.

Happy to be proven wrong, if nothing else because Sweden really need some central midfielders to finally step up to a decent level.

They didn't really have to trigger his clause, or rather they were of course free to try to negotiate a lower fee as in any other transfer. Triggering the fee just meant that Leeds couldn't say no.

Rutter is a lovely player, would have taken him for sure
