Quote from: demeant0r on August 15, 2024, 10:56:36 AMThank Christ Phillips is going to Ipswich and not us. That just leaves us with Andre though and we better get him.
We have been after this lad for a while and if Marco wants him then good. How though do we know he is any good? Stats form the Brazilian league do not necessarily mean he can okay in a better standard of league? I hate watching you tube clips, on this even the words players can look good. So where can I watch full matches of this lad. I assume someone here have seen him play so please let me know, genuine request here.

I believe Fluminense played City last season in one of those weird international cups. You can probably find longer highlights of that.

Didn't realise Fluminense almost had a penalty and the second goal was an own goal too. Changes the perception of how close the game was.

Also think this every time ppl bring up the man city performance

Man City beat multiple teams by 3, 4 goals every year, they smashed us 5-1 without Palhinha and then 4-0 with him... Doesnt mean we dont have players good enough for the prem or that Palhinha wasnt a top DM

Quote from: FFC1987 on August 14, 2024, 08:00:42 AMI always thought Palace could pay higher wages than us which is why whenever we were both linked to a player (similar to Westham before Europe success) it was us on the back foot. Maybe that's changed.

Possibly although supposedly ESR came here amidst interest there (will never know how far they got with their offers for him of course but it was rumoured they approached the player)

Palace have a smaller wage bill / structure to us. We generally pay more.

What are you basing this off mate? Looking at current projected and last two years, Palace have a significantly higher wage bill? I could well be wrong but as I mentioned, the ability to pay higher wages almost seemed to be in Palaces favour.

I read it somewhere a few months back that Palace were paying less in player wages than we were 23/24 season (sorry I cant remember the article, I did try and have a look but didn't even know where to begin), but while looking it appears in other sources our wage bills were largely similar last season (Palace even paying slightly more), so who knows which source/s are more accurate...

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 15, 2024, 01:42:53 PMLast published accounts (22/23) Palace's wage bill was £101m compared to ours £139m.

I agree that seems off, nonetheless think most other sources (Sportrac etc) are so crap/speculative as to be pretty much worthless.

Yeah they're surely highly speculative - but I can buy into this. Imagine that Leno, Palhinha, Willian were on big contracts and could be higher than Palace's players. It was reported Willian was on 100k, Palhinha's new contract brought him up towards that; Leno just a guess but imagine his salary was high at Arsenal and we matched it.

Bournemouth about to spend €47m on a striker from Porto called Evanilson.

Immediately re-investing the money from Solanke. They're consistently outspending us in the window. Owners really showing ambition.

In this window, or over a number of windows?

IF just this window, that's hardly surprising in fairness, is it?

I just watched a youtube video of him and he looks decent, but I don't watch it and go wow and feel fully confident he's definitely going to thrive.

He's 24 though and if Iraola thinks he can get it out of him then fair enough.

Bournemouth had to replace Solanke and perhaps pay over the odds, they've lost a key player who scored 19 goals and they didn't do that well last season with him (finishing just 1 point and 1 place above us).

Yeh, perhaps the gaps closed over the years (or non existent). I just recall they had Zaha who was speculatively on huge wages circa £130k then made some high profile signings and just thought they managed it with the wages.

Bournemouth they have spent more, but he will need time with pressure on him straight to score goals and they finished 1 piont ahead of us.

Across the last few windows, they've spent over £100m in the last two summers with more or less no sales. So that's £200m last few windows. This summer they're net is basically even.

So their spending has been far greater, for a club that will certainly have a smaller revenue.

Not saying we have to spend as much as them, and by and large our recruitment has been good - but I am slightly envious of them - and how decisive they have been in replacing someone after a sale. We haven't seen this from Fulham.

Let's wait and see what our final spending is in a few weeks. We know we've offered £30 million for Andersen and we know we are getting a DM as per Marco s comments who will inevitably be at least £20 million. That is £50m on top of the the £40 odd million we have already spent. I'd be very surprised if we don't then bring in either another CM or LW. Prob £20m minimum. That would be £110m this summer and don't think any of us can complain at that point. Let's see where we end up.

Palace have now rejected £55+£5m for Guehi!!

Newcastle fans all seem to be saying walk away now. Wouldn't be surprised if they go for Chalobah and he's more likely to want go there. Possibly opens up the door for Andersen.

Yeah, our business is pretty good - but their efficiency in replacing Solanke is to be admired. We would all have enjoyed that. Going to be an interesting two weeks ahead.

or they've been negotiating for a few days or desperate or he had a release clause they were happy to meet, yes he's young but unproven had a couple of good seasons and one not so good at one of portugals strongest clubs, if only we had stumped up the money for Beto

That rings a bell actually as the first article I read had Palace on about £100m and ours quite a bit higher.

Steve Parish did say in an interview (maybe with Gary Neville?) that Palace have one of the lowest budgets in the league so have to be creative in their recruitment and be realistic in offering players a platform to maybe move onto higher things.

As I and others have said, no one knows for sure and it's all speculation.

Interesting. Yet they are still to formally reject our bid for Andersen (as far as I have seen).

Must admit the Andsersen bid felt like one that wouldn't work out to me; i'm not yet talking myself into believing otherwise but maybe not as unlikely as I first thought...

It only has to be admired I guess if it ends up being a good signing and worth the money they paid ultimately. Which may well be the case.

I get that and your envy.. let's hold out to see what the rest of the window looks like? If we got in Andersen, Andre for £50m+ then we'd be on spending closer to £80m.. and that's with the possibility of getting in an extra CM and LW..

It looks like we may also have started going for quality over quantity, and aiming to go for players that only improve the squad we have.. If that's the case, then getting in players of ESR, Cuenca, Andre and Andersen's quality (for example) puts us in a better place than spending £100m every season trying to buy lots of players and find ones that work.

I'd rather us have signed Andre, Andersen/Carlos, Mctominay by now, giving us the core squad we need, so we could focus on improving other areas with loans or in January.. let's just hope the club knows what it's doing.

16 days until the window shuts and time is ticking quickly, with very little news on what we're doing at the moment.

that's a fair point about the outcome - but the act of decisively replacing an outgoing, presumably already with their target lined up is more what I'm getting at. This player may not be a success, but that efficiency I do envy - as I know we all would like.
