In other news and according to Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy it seems ex Fulham academy midfielder Matt O'Riley is close to joining Europa Cup holders Atalanta for €27m from Celtic

This is the one that really grinds my gears, much more than Carvalho.

Me too. Incredible mismanagement from both Parker and Mackintosh, especially since we all knew at the time he was a talented player with serious potential.

I do actually remember watching him get some minutes in the first team and at the time I thought he really wasn't that good and looked quite awkward on the ball.

Played an hour v Reading and made 4 League Cup that season and was on the bench a dozen times.
Didn't really catch the eye. Although, of course, with the wonderful aid of hindsight, was the most dazzling prospect of all time.
He's quite a useful player now. It's taken four years of steady progress to get thus far.

Not catching the eye would have been an improvement on his competition in Harry Arter.

Also hard to catch the eye when your manager is deliberately telling you to play conservatively.

Fulham and Ipswich Town target Cameron Puertas is 'close to a transfer' and it will likely be to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old midfielder is on the books at Belgian side Union SG and has attracted interest this summer.
He was the subject of an offer from the MLS earlier this month, which came in at €12m, but Union SG rejected it.
Puertas, an attacking midfielder by trade, has also been heavily linked with heading to England amid Fulham and Ipswich showing interest.

And things appear to be moving with the midfielder as, according to Belgian daily Nieuwsblad, Puertas is 'close to a transfer' and 'it will probably' be to the Premier League.

Whether Fulham or Ipswich are close to landing the Union SG man remains to be seen and it is also suggested that Puertas has suitors in Saudi Arabia. Union SG look willing to cash in following their elimination from the Champions League qualifying rounds at the hands of Slavia Prague.

11m seems quite low for last season's Championship top scorer. Perhaps discounted due to his age (28) and lack of consistent output, but we paid the same for Ross McCormack at the same age a decade ago, within the Championship.

I think it's irrelevant. He's untested at this level and spending £30m on him is to risky for us. We aren't the biggest club in the world or have the biggest budget so we need to stick to our prices.

Untested in the Prem yeah but he has played for the Brazil national team (at only 23) which is a pretty high level and IMO a bigger achievement than playing in the Prem

I respectfully disagree. The Brazil national team give a lot of players from what I've seen the odd cap or two but they never kick on from there. (Plus this Brazil team is pretty average when you compare it to what they have had over the last 30 years). If he was consistently being picked then that's another story.

Also the Brazilian league is no where near the level in Europe and that's where he plays consistently, and at 23 he's also a little late in the game to be moving here. I still would like to see it happen though.

Paying more than £25m for someone untested at our level is a big risk.

He wasn't shown the door, he rejected our contract offer. Parker no doubt helped him decide.

An aside from Parker being useless, I'm slightly envious or impressed by West Ham's transfer business this summer. Fullkrug, Summerville, Todibo (who's been linked with us in the past), Kilman too on what was an already decent squad, makes them one to watch for me this season. They've done their business quickly, most in for the start of the season and at a good level.

Interesting to draw some sort of parallels to Fulham, they've upgraded their stadium, found a better manager and have been building their squad's ability to compete over a number of windows. They're ahead of us obviously as things stand, but curious to see it come together.

According to Graeme Bailey on X/Twitter Palace have rejected Newcastle's 4th bid for Guehi, Newcastle are now considering their option.

I do think Palace would rather sell Guehi, maybe for PSR/FFP reasons, but it does meant they are still considering our bid (25 + 5 million) for Anderson I guess
