Quote from: General on August 18, 2024, 10:02:39 AMI'm getting bored of days going by and nothing happening aside from speculation by fans, like myself, who don't know any better either..

That being said, although it's something and nothing at the same time, if there was a semi reliable transfer journo then this would be it.. Lots of ifs and buts though on everything being in a domino effect.. Can't rely on this transfer for our business.

So with this strategy it looks like we may get either Diego Carlos or Joachim Andersen in on deadline day at this rate, depending on what happens with either or. Why are we always being so risky with our transfer policies - such a stupid approach. Andersen or Carlos would improve our squad and most likely first team too - we need our squad strengthened now, for the start of the season, for the early games.

Fingers crossed the club gets it's act together with this stuff. Can't keep leaving everything so late and being so slow, one day we're going to pay for it.

https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1825068110292066750

Presumably because our next 3 games are against Leicester, Ipswich and Birmingham and feel we have enough to beat those (nothings guaranteed in football - but we do on paper) and specifically at CB we have Diop who was great against Utd, and therefore feel we can bide our time to see if our main targets (or perhaps even new better ones who weren't available prior who knows) become available.

We've offered for Anderson an offer that hasn't been rejected - they're therefore having to find a replacement option him before agreeing to a sale, given the stage of the window we're at and he's a main starter for them.

Once they have an agreement in principle then Anderson is presumably free to move. If Marco and the board prefer Anderson to Carlos, we'll wait... if not they'll presumably increase bid for Carlos or another defender as Marco mentioned they might not be from England so there are clearly other possibilities we don't know about on the table.

As ever, we don't know for certain whats on the table and how far in the bag any talks are in reality, so best thing to do at this point is just accept that this is the way it is till then and assume the team will be as is against the next 2 teams we play. If anything happens before the last couple days then, great. Fabrizio's tweet seems to be saying palace are trying to get this Lacroix deal done asap, so if that happens relatively quickly then seemingly so may our business but they wouldn't be exploring this if they weren't open to a sale of one of their CB's and ours is the only offer not currently rejected.

Incidentally Lacroix always plays on the right side of Wolfsburgs defence - even at RB at times...Anderson is Palaces RCB. So we shall see but he seems a more tailor made RCB replacement than LCB

Just go for Lacroix, saves a lot of hassle.

Do you know much about him? He's younger and so has potential but I don't think he's currently a better player than Anderson today personally, from the ,granted ,little I know of him. Wolfsburgs defence wasn't great last year in a worse league. Also he's played under Glasner before.

Really does seem to be something in this Andersen deal. As you say Lacroix is right footed. They'd be replacing a 28 year old with 2 years left on his contract with a 24 year old that they will give a 5 year contract and they will probably get for less as he only has a year on his contract at Wolfsberg. Glasner managed him there as well. Note still no reports of our offer being rejected. Perhaps Palace have accepted pending getting this guy in? Very interesting to see if he plays today. I imagine he would regardless to be fair as until done they will want to use him to try and get points on the board.

General

Willian has just posted his situation on Instagram..

The decision to not renew with us was made in July.

He's analysing offers to apparently play in Europe, the U.S and Saudi Arabia and hasn't made a decision yet.

He also isn't going back to Brazil and states those posts are false or fake news.

If it's between us and Palace unlikely to choose us as Glasner managed him for two years apparently.

Yes I don't believe they won't play anderson as they're happy enough to have him with them come end of the window apparently, should it work out that way.

The teams that have come up look OK.
Ipswich and Southampton look capable! We really need points at home v Leicester.

Interesting. Born and raised in Suffolk, family all STH'ers and I must admit, whikst the enthusiasm is there, most seem to think they'll struggle and watching yesterday, I have to agree. In laws same situation but with Saints and they're all super negative even before struggling to get a result against a side playing 10 men for most of the game.

Think both sides will give a spirited effort, but really hard to see any of those promoted sides staying up. I could see perhaps Ipswich scrapping through at the cost of Everton perhaps.

We will sign someone or maybe more than one in the next 12 days. I have this on good authority by a bloke ITK TFN LHM. Or its may not be a bloke. They are that secret and works close to a computer. I can't possibly give you names or even positions of the players. This will make the ITK susceptible to blackmail.

I can absolutely guarantee that I am more accurate than the messages and posts on the previous four thousand, five hundred and fifty six pages. The players concerned may or may not be English. Sorry I have said enough.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

So I watched the whole Fluminese match last night just out of interest.

Just to start off the standard of football was shocking. Barely championship level. Two teams around the relegation zone and it showed. The pace was slow and if he did come would seriously take a while to get up to prem speed I think.

I watched a bit of Fluminese last year when we were interested and the game against City. The change in their style is vast under a new manager. Previously they never played it long with crazy dangerous football from the back. Last night they spent the whole first half hoofing it in the main. This basically bypassed Andre for much of it. They did use him more second half.

Got to say he is a lovely footballer on the ball from what I have seen. Must have had over 95% pass completion last night and looked a cut above everyone else (not hard really). Lots of neat passes around the corner and a few lovely swing passes out wide. A couple of lovely bigger cross field balls as well. His spatial awareness when receiving off the defenders was brilliant and his tight turns on the odd occasion the other team pressed well were great. Only prob is the other team were pretty poor in the press and generally he had a tonne of time on the ball. Would he be so good against the million times more intense prem...who knows?

My main concern from the few games I have seen is defensively. He does just sit as a 6. There was a lack of intensity in his defensive work last night and he almost seems to 'wander' a bit not properly tracking runners. He did this vs City but I put that down to him being knackered after a 60 game season. Looked very similar last night however. He'd have to make massive improvements under Silva in this respect I think.

We struggle so badly against a good high press and could he help this? Definitely I think if he can get up to prem speed. But defensively I reckon he'd have a lot of work to do to improve. I can see why we're refusing to pay more than low £20's as he would be a work in progress I think.

Souza is literally the opposite. Big tackler but by all accounts useless on the ball. He won man of the match in their first championship game and by the sounds of it was a bit of a colossus. Their fans wondered where that player had been in the prem reading their forum. Then against QPR sounded like they lost the midfield battle although fans didn't single him out. With us struggling so badly against the high press he probably makes us worse with his ability on the ball.

Noted Marco said we need players in so we can 'play the way I want to play'. We all know he is desperate to play out from the back which would suggest an Andre type rather than Souza but we will see. If it is Andre really hope he can do it defensively.

Quote from: Deuce on August 17, 2024, 05:06:37 PMQuestion for those who think we should sign a striker:
why would we spend money on a new striker when we already have Raul and Muniz? Yes, I know. Raul is underwhelming, especially considering his 100 k wage. But he would have to be sold before we should add anyone else, and that is simply not happening.

Immediate positions to be addressed are: DM and CB.
Bonus if we get an attacking player.
Going by what Marco said yesterday on sky its a DM, CB and someone across the front line. Whilst we have Raul and Munoz neither f them set the world alight last season or looked particularly good last night (dare I say in pre season either) so someone across the frontline who cant play all positions wouldnt be a bad pick up
muniz was fantastic last Season
Fantastic?? No he had a wonderful albeit limited spell during the winter but then faded a bit towards the end of the season. Still a lot to prove but looks promising

All the attributes a striker needs smoothing of the Edges required.

Fulham 442

As expected Andersen starts for Palace vs Brentford.  I thought he was great when he was on loan with us, always put in a shift, but as has been mentioned before he is definitely slower now...

He wasn't any quicker when he was with us, we just had an incredibly low defensive line and kept inviting pressure.

Think he'd be good if he was paired with a quicker CB that can cover him, like Bassey, but it is his big weakness and leads to him picking up a lot of yellows for shirt pulls and similar.

Somerset Fulham

Toney not in the squad today. I wonder where he is off to and why the hell Spurs didn't buy him over Solanke.

Would probably cost as much while demanding twice the wages.

Figure Toney will be off to Saudi Arabia this season or on a free next year.

Somerset Fulham

I thought he was quoted at £40m?   Not sure where I saw that though so it could be bollocks.

Somerset Fulham

Skipp is off to Leicester apparently. £20m plus!

Somerset Fulham

The baggage I get totally but I think Toney brings so much more to a game than Solanke, and is supposedly £25m cheaper.

Just opinion of course, I haven't looked at any optics other than my own experience of both of them to come to this conclusion!

wback

When Silva talks about "one more player across the front line", what about Raheem Sterling on loan for a year? Yes, he misses chances, but he's still quick as.
