I'd love Cherki, but it's giving me Ben Arfa vibes..... Huge potential, but as someone said earlier, rumours of an attitude & lazy demeanour.

Wouldn't say no mind you!

fulhamfan

says on FM hes a similar player to Carvalho

junior white

Assuming Cherki is so cheap (if we have bid) due to his contract situation and maybe the Somme TS above re his attitude?

Re Berge does anyone know if the medical is done etc?

Re Anderson anyone know if the in principal is now firm and if firm has he started his medical?

Quote from: hopper on August 21, 2024, 02:12:18 PMCherki is a strange player, a bit of a futsal type one. Great in tight spaces, hugely technical. But is often incredibly lazy and apparently has a bit of an attitude problem. Many managers have struggled to get a tune out of him despite the talent being undoubtedly there. Didn't feature much in the Olympic run this summer.

Seems to be the case - kind of like a better version of Taraabt...

He played in 33 games last season for OL, circa 12 times he played over 70 minutes, only completing 90 5 times, and getting in a good 80 minutes 3 times... He had 7 g/a throughout the season, averaging 52 minutes across each game.

The weird thing here though is that he plays more as an AM, and then his second favoured position, which is also the one he's most productive in is at RW, which we don't really need a player in.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rayan-cherki/leistungsdaten/spieler/607223/plus/0?saison=2023

So my concerns are his attitude, there's little doubting he's got potential given his age and what he's done so far.. but also the concern of his best positions being ones we've got the players for..

More than anything we need a LW option.. which Iwobi is filling in for at the moment, but isn't his strongest position..

He can play across the front - also means you can interchange him, Iwobi and ESR across the 3 forward positions. I would suggest he might play more central with ESR drifting out onto the left, but the fact we've bid for him twice this year suggests Marco sees something in him to benefit our way of playing. Certainly adds to the goal threat from wide areas anyways

Is anyone else slightly concerned that we risk having three quite similar profile players playing across our front line? ESR and Iwobi definitely give off similar vibes and cherki is another dribbler.. Iwobi and ESR seem to have less pace, which may be a bit unfair on Iwobi, but just curious whether others think having three players all of a similar playing style is healthy or not..?

#EXCLUSIVO 🚨

Farewell cry? 😢

Trivela found out that the intention of all parties is that by the end of the window, on September 2, the player will already be negotiated. The special night at Maracanã on Tuesday (20), then, would be his farewell.

Goes on to say that there's been no bid for him, but that it's been agreed amongst all parties at Fluminense that he would be sold... with our bid being the last one received in July.

Cherki is one of those who's been one of the hottest up-and-coming prospects for a while that many expected to be a superstar but hasn't quite hit those heights yet. If anyone can bring the best out of him I'd hope it can be Marco and for me, at just £12m it's a no brainer to take the gamble IMO.

We were linked to him before so there's been ongoing interest it seems and he can play across the attacking line behind the striker (so not the backup striker option some of us may like for extra comfort - clearly Marco's happy enough with our options there if this is the case)

One that could have a massive pay off if it works out. Much like we revived Andreas career it's one of those at such a young age I would be very excited about what he can* do, whilst knowing that he's been a bit hot and cold so far. Perhaps in the premier league he could thrive on the big stage though, he certainly believes in himself. Marco loves a fluid signing, I can certainly see peoples concerns about not having an out and out certified winger type but I honestly thought ESR was being signed predominantly as a LW originally and most of his effective work for Arsenal was out there so I think this could really work potentially.

I liked the idea of Wesley for his raw pace, but he's untested and also blowing hot and cold apparently with questionable decision making...this at 12m for me is well worth the punt if we can get him for that. the ceiling is massive, it's a matter of if we can get that out of him...wish Boa was here to work with ESR as a side note.

In regards to the lack of pace between Iwobi ESR and Cherki, Iwobi is the fastest of the bunch albeit not lighting quick, but we do of course have Robinson on the overlap for speed, Willian had some pace but was similar to Iwobi and was plenty effective...and of course Traore blistering on the right. So I don't think it'd be too much of an issue, albeit yes It's certainly nice to have raw pace as an option. Again though we have a metric ton of that with Traore so there is that.

+1; Cherki is one of those ones where if he's average at PL level, £12m isn't too bad considering it's about the same as Knockaert & Cav and he'd be contributing to the squad at a higher level, and if he hits his potential with us then we're easily looking at massive profit in a year or two

Quote from: jayffc on August 21, 2024, 12:28:19 PMrevisiting "that" interview - whilst he doesn't rule out more than 3 explicitly he does state those 3 is what "has to come".

It certainly does appear he says that "we are going to sign one player for that position (6) with the..." (goes to say "same" but corrects to say...)  "...the profile that we are looking for to replace Joao"...

So I guess it's a matter of waiting to hear what Marco says about Berge and for now assuming that - especially given his "profile" that he sees him as that layer - till we hear different. Signs currently point to that being the case from what he's said so far...now we wait for more info I guess. For now I'd only look at Andre as an outside bonus should it materialise unless we hear something to the contrary directly.

https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1824516232214679839

It's interesting, watching it back to me it could infer that we were looking to sign a number 6 to replace joao.. then he says 'we are going to sign one player for that position .. then he said and 'yesterday I said as well, a central defender and midfielder clear has to come...'

To me he speaks decent/good english, but clearly broken grammatically.. It could quite easily be a DM comment, followed by reiterating what he also believes is needed... or it could be that the DM was the midfielder are them... the as well and separating the conversation from his interview with Carragher with the comments made the previous day leaves it quite open ended in my view.. who knows.

Just to note I am 99% sure in the interview he did with Bien Sports after the match he listed the same positions but said a 'minimum' of 3 suggesting it could well be more. I'm honestly can't work out if that potentially means Andre. Although Berge has played a lot as DM in his career Sheff United fans and Burnley seem to suggest he cannot play outright 6 in the prem and that he is way more an 8 and Marco seemed to be referring to a 6 specifically. Andre is nothing like Joao but does purely sit as a 6. Perhaps we are just waiting for Flu to come back and say they want to deal at our offer now as no one else is in. Or perhaps we've moved on but a lot of things point to this being at least a possibility.

At 21 with 6 goals and 16 assists in 54 games of actual playing time yes please for £12m. Valued at circa £20m on transfermarkt and I believe they wanted +£20m last year didn't they? Could be a steal and large potential resale value with little risk.

I feel like there is zero downside to this signing. Its a low risk high reward scenario and something we can take a gamble on. We know we have starters in his position already, so competition/squad depth is the worst case scenario, if he hits his potential, he's likely a starter, with a nice sell on fee in a few years......if it doesn;t work, we still had the cover, gave him the chance, and for a tiny fee like that (in current market anyway), its not going to impact FFP much at all......Love a signing like this and tbh, not to pat the club too much on the back, but when you can do things like this and not need to worry, shows how well run we are really.  ::wine::

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 21, 2024, 03:36:34 PMMaybe greedy to ask for Cherki and Andre on top of the other imminent signings, but the fact that their clubs are desperate to offload them represents an excellent opportunity to get them at a good price, they'd bring some much-needed age balance to the team, and those two would IMO take us into the realm of a top 10/potential Europa League side.

The other thing with this window is we're signing players who want to come for us, but whose previous clubs fans rated the players and didn't necessarily want them to leave - Cuenca, ESR, Andersen and Andre... Think that's a change for us, seeing us sign key and preferred players and fan favourites from rivals, or top performing teams in their own leagues, to add to our team. Long may it continue. Even if we lose part of the tag of being everyone's favourite second club.

Where did you see Berge Medical being complete and Andersen's happening today?

Conflicting reports on this - Dharmesh Sheth says Berge to be announced in next 24hrs and medical taking place today, whilst someone else said that we're hoping to sign Andersen by the deadline on Friday.

Don't think we'll see Cherki for a while.

Andersen's deal being reported as a £27m deal, not £30m by the Telegraph.. better piece of business if true.
