Quote from: JimmyConway on August 29, 2024, 09:14:51 PMCommon knowledge we are after a left winger come forward type but wonder if there might be a loan come in as well? Goalie or defensive midfielder? Looking at squad there is room?

We have 3 available squad spots as of right now. The new forward will take one unless they are a u21.
Silva said only one more player. A winger.
He also said if someone leaves which he hopes they do not then someone has to come in

Apparently the source is solid according to the original West Ham tweeter, but why we'd be interested in JWP I have no idea
I do no think Silva would want him, he mentioned wide player not central midfield.
I don't see any downside to signing Ward-Prowse if we are/were interested? We will have all positions in midfield covered and be considerably stronger in squad depth to a lot of our rivals.

Only downside would be his wages. He's on 115k pw according to Spotrac.com - that's 6m per year out of our transfer budget. Only reason to sign would be for set pieces if Pereira goes.

It is interesting to see that some of critical comment made about our club are falsehoods.
So maybe we should stop perpetuating them?

We are not interested in recruiting younger players into the squad/team (or words to that effect)
Silva say:-
Silva confirmed Josh King will be around the squad this year and a decision on Martial Godo (and whether he goes on loan) will be made tomorrow, depending on what happens in the market.

We have no international scouting network (or words to that effect)
Silva says:-
Asked whether the winger he wants would be from the, Silva said it will be difficult regardless but added:  "Premier League experience has been important to us but that doesn't mean we just look to English football. We have the capacity to look abroad to find the right options"

TK should not leave things to the last minute (or words to that effect)
Silva says:-
Silva acknowledged anything can happen in final hours of the window but he doesn't expect anyone to leave FFC and hopes not, but anyone who does go has to be replaced. "One leaves, one comes in, this is the way we plan

We need to give preference to players who can be signed before the preseason starts (or words to that effect)
Silva says :-
"Of course we have to be ready for the market.
Of course we did plan well, ourselves and of course with the board, with Alastair, with Tony as well...about what we need clearly.

I was clear with them (I take this to be the other members of the Recruitment team) what we need, and of course its a matter of business you know... Sometimes the players they come early, other times it's more difficult.

But we know really, and we have enough patience to get the right players. Business point of view of course the board has to do their best and they have been, they have been trying their best as well too for us to put the team, the squad, in the position that we need.

Of course we have to say that we are really pleased. We need the last piece on it. and for sure, and I hope, that we are going to go in the right direction next week again to get the last piece in because we have to be really pleased........We know that we have a good squad again to go and compete at the level that we want to compete with in the premier league."

I'm off to get a big pot of GRUEL ready from anyone who needs it - bye for now  ::wine::
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Brentford accepting £36m for Toney having wanted £60m all summer is quite funny

@jolslover

So, winger coming in

Who do people want it to be?

Seeing as Cherki signed a new deal with Lyon he's out the picture. I would like Edon Zhegrova out of names we have recently been linked with. Gnonto or Fati would be great for me too (not really seen us linked)

Birmingham have bid between £9-10m for Jay. I would be tempted to accept because that gets us two forwards today

I like Stansfield but we should take this deal, that is big money for a player whose ceiling I think may only be a top Championship player.

10m gets us 2 forwards? What am I missing? Do you mean because were already buying one as it is and this tops up funds for another? Who can we buy for 10m better than Jay?

Its a no from me tbh.

Think it's very unlikely we get two forwards today if Jay left? It's just a shame we don't play two up top as he would be perfect in that role.

Not convinced 9-10m is big money for a 20 year old who scored 13 goals on loan last year in the champ. It might well be his ceiling and he still has some convincing to do for me but he deserves that shot imo... equally he might well develop into a great asset for us.

Main thing is what could we bring in better at this point?

That's not how FFP works - he's an academy player so if you get £9m for him it means it's all profit and you can spend circa £25m on a new player, so it means two PL ready forwards in today (I'm already expecting 1 in so it would be another in additon for clarity)

Yep. In relation to Jay's personal crusade to prove that some players become available more cheaply at the end of the window, I will let him have this one

Oi Stop banging my drum!

Quote from: karldutton on August 30, 2024, 04:06:01 AMZegrova would be a fantastic addition to the squad, looks a real menace.
The way he runs past the defence is unbelievable and he can also score some fantastic goals.

Would be surprised to see this one come off, he plays as a key player, one of the top wingers (top 2) in Ligue 1, for a club that are consistently in the top 5 in Ligue 1 and with that comes european football. A main contributor to it coming off if it did, would be the lure of the PL and Marco convincing him.

Ah, You mean books wise this year, sure, but we still have to pay more then we brought in in the end, just over multiple seasons which can still affect spending capacity as a whole, all adds up.. Anyway we probably have the budget if we wanted to anyway but Id be surprised and don't think that figure is high as it could be personally

The best bit is that they're also signing Osimhen so he's going to Saudi and won't even be first choice  ::wine::

Blackburn have made a loan bid for Godo!

Godo exit likely lined up should we succeed in bringing in a winger

Blackburn a great shout off to a good start in the championship

How can they afford that in League 1?
