Quote from: SerbianLad on August 30, 2024, 10:34:48 AMRe Ward-Prowse or any other potential midfielder: Marco clearly stated that it's going to be only one more player in unless we sell someone(in that case he said it would be a one in one out situation, on top of that winger of course). On top of that, midfield is where we have most depth probably, as we have at least three players that can play in each position, and in the 8 role where Ward-Prowse would probably fit in best, we have 6 players, potentialy 7 if you count Iwobi (or even 8 if Pajaziti stays). My guess is that either the rumour isn't true, or we are negotiating in advance, in case an offer we can't refuse comes in for one of our wingers.

Re the new striker rumour: it only makes sense if Stansfield is indeed going.

Re Stansfield to Birmingham: if they up their offer to 15 + 5 in addons and a sell-on fee I'd take it.

I think 10m+5m addons around promotion within 2 years and a hefty sell on fee (30% +) would probably be doable. If he goes in the future then for at least £20m we'd earn another £6m likely taking the fee to over £21m all in.

Do you think that TK has an "I AM STUPID" hat to wear

We have a long history of signing dud strikers - Steve Marlet for instance

How stupid would TK look if we passed on JS's potential, if he then developed into the bees-knees, for a fee that would rightly be described as loose change at his dinning table

We complain when Liverpool and Celtic hijack players for a pittance but you are happy to sell players who show potential.

It makes no sense.

But equally we could keep him, he never blooms into a PL striker and we sell him to Stoke for £3m in two years time? Potential in football is a gamble based on opinion and so many times we've seen the alleged next biggest thing fade into anonymity within 3-5 years, and the club would be silly not to consider an 8 figure sum for a player that has garnered relatively limited interest even from the second tier after scoring 13 goals there last season. Not sure how a history of signing dud strikers under a different regime matters at all, you could point to how shrewd we've been in the last few windows pointing to the fact that the club are quite good at identifying talent and associated prices at the moment?
I did say IF

If you want to limit the history to the current incumbent of the board room:-
I give you Kostas Mitroglou and if you want someone from the UK - try Chris Martin on loan.
Since Mitro was the only decent one we've had so you can look for the others yourself.

I would also put to you - how bad does it look if any potential gem from the academy is promptly sold as soon as he starts to emerge. Will this encourage boy with potential to sign up with us? I think not.
As to the money we loose - in the owners world - it is chicken feed - a bit more in terms of allowable spending but the risk and reward is perhaps worth it.

We blame Parker chasing out O'Reilly and now you want to push out JS - shame on you
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Quote from: Twig on August 30, 2024, 11:30:58 AMAll these experts wanting to sell Jay to Birmingham should pause and think about what the player might want, he's under contract with an established Premier League club. Do you really think he would want to go to a 3rd division club? Frankly you can debate what offer might or might not be sufficient and whether or not he is potentially Prem standard but if he wants to stay and fight for his place surely that his prerogative?

This is real life not some football manager game.
Very good point and well made.

I guess it also depends if he wants to sit on the bench more than he will play or if he wants to play minutes. Perosnally cannot see him being a starter early in the seaosn, and then owuld have to take his chance if he gets his chance due to an injury or someone is dropped due to poor form. If we do bring in a wide player then I owuld assume that would limit his chances further.

All in all the young man has a big decision to make for him and his career.

I don't think there's much need to be sarcastic and insulting about it? ("experts")

It's highly possible he might want to stay, but equally, he clearly loved his time at Brum, they are clear favourites to storm that division so back in the champ in a year in a league he'd probably have fun dominating, and he's a legend there... add to that that he likely won't start here-  and it's not beyond the realms of possibility he'd accept the move if we did. Certainly enough to discuss the possibilities of it, no ones assuming 100% he'd accept the move but doesnt mean one can't explore the scenario.

If the club decided they wanted to sell him he could reject the move of course for sure, but there's no more evidence to say he would or wouldn't do that, so that's just as much conjecture for now when discussing the possibility of the move.

It's a move that was on the table, seemingly if it's been rejected it's been rejected and on we move.

Jay comes across as someone to me who has the character forged through everything (Loss of father, going back to Exeter on loan, the family foundation etc) to have the ambition to be the very best he can be and for me that's as a PL player with Fulham. For me he could bulk up a bit more, but that will come with time and being around the first team. Technically, for me he's got it. His goals are always technically very impressive given his age.

The only area which makes me slightly unsure is the physical side.. he's quite a slight figure, which perhaps plays into people's biases that he may be too young or not able to compete.. but people don't necessarily realise how tall he is - apparently 6ft-6ft.1 - which if he bulks up then I think he's got more than enough to become a PL player and do very well for us.

throwing shame on people is a bit much too? This language is all a bit combative for this topic. No ones saying they're gonna drive him there or jeering, just that it's an amount of money that can't be sniffed at for a prospect who could be great but could just as easily be a bust, none of us know for sure at this stage. I for example am not desperate for the guy to leave but I can understand every player has their price and in a specific set of scenarios could see the path for his departure.

O'Reilly situation is completely different, the manager didn't play him so he wasn't interested in signing the contract we gave him and he left on a free despite our board wanting to keep him.

In this situation we're talking about if there were a possibility of a deal that could bring in up to 15m  potentially "pure profit" with sell on fees that could raise that figure higher...and wether that would be an understandable amount to accept. In that scenario Marco would almost undoubtedly have the final say on us pulling the trigger anyway and so would presumably be happy with who we were replacing him with.

They are two very different scenarios.

Yeh I'm hopeful his resiliance is something that pushed him too. And it's a story that really makes you root for the lad. Agree his physicality in terms of strength really needs work as the key for him to pushing on. Think also the "youthfulness" or lack of readiness also perhaps comes also from him being quite quiet soft spoken and meek in his demeanour compared to the bigger confident characters we have in our squad that give off that aura of confidence. A quite killer perhaps.

Either way seems he's staying and think most here, even those willing to accept a decent fee structure for him would love more than anything for him to turn out to be a top player for us.

Such transfer decisions always carry risk either way

I've stated I'm only happy with it *IF* we bring in a good-quality strike option to replace him. I've already said that I think he's earned the right to his chance, but woukd accept a scenario where there's a quality option available and we therefore cash in on a prospect who could just as easily be a bust at the top level as he could be a success.

All clubs have stories where they let younger players go because they weren't starters and they came good later, many also of instances where they sold decent young players for high prices that amounted to nothing. It happens and there's always a risk taken.

I'd like Jay to get his chance but if, and its. a big if, another option came up that looked more likely to contribute right now then I'd be alright with it is all assuming that those funds go to bettering us now. It's all a game of ifs... If we signed a player for example that could contribute more than Jay now..it could legitimately challenge Muniz up top and say we end up in a world where we then flirt with Europe for example - we might then be in a great position financially and in league standings to attract a player with a ceiling even higher than Stansfields, Who knows how it plays out.

Were you one of the throng that supported the man from Dawley New Towns comments about the clubs failure to lower the average age of our squad?

How does your idea work with that complaint about our club?

Were you one of the throng that supported the man from Dawley New Towns comments about the clubs failure to lower the average age of our squad?

How does your idea work with that complaint about our club?

In one word. No.

Respectfully, You seem to be out for a fight Roberty.

I like having a young up-and-coming squad as much as anyone, though I think it generally works best blended with a healthy dose of experience. But the main thing for me is quality first.

We also don't know who we'd replace Stansfield with. For all we know they could be the same age but be deemed higher quality... if not the same age they could be under 24 and so still be considered plenty "young" so a bit of a moot point. On top of that - I already said, if we brought in a player that gave us an ever more likely shot at finishing higher up the league now, you open the door to a better talent pool (including of young players) next window. 🤷🏻♂️

I think ya a bit too eager to kick off here and your language way too inflammatory - especially when aimed at someone who I don't think you're realsing you seemed to mostly agree with this year.

As for addressing your now added comment above "out you go" (unnecessarily rude for no reason)

1. They arent the same scenario, this is arguing semantics - one we wanted a player and he left of his choice because he wasn't being played...the other we hypothetically make a decision to sell making a significant profit - that's already clearly been explained above.
If Jay then came good later I still wouldn't blame the club if they took a deal they felt was good for the club at the time in the same way I would be frustrated that O'reilly rejected a contract based on game time. Not the same thing.

2. We still have other youth players, we played Carvalho, we played Sess etc we do clearly develop youth where they're good enough or don't bugger off on their own accord early... another up-and-comer King I've literally been saying I hope gets minutes and who I certainly wouldn't sell at this point,  as I personally think he's got that air of top-level class about him that I haven't quite yet seen from Stanno at a younger age. (but am absolutely hopeful well see this year if we keep him, which again, I'm absolutely here for should we choose that as the better option)

3. Again -  No one knows who the replacement for him would be and what age they'd be?? They could also be in their early 20s for all we know but be deemed a hotter prospect or already doing better at a higher level? + again, the point was made that even in the scenario where you did opt for a more experienced player instead for a year (say richarlison for the sake of it)...if they got us finishing higher in the table - then next year you might be able to attract a top level hot prospect and the likes of Cherki etc become more interested in us as an option. Success now can breed the ground for better young players getting signed in the future too.

Really no need for this to be an argumentative exchange

Woolly Mammoth

Keep Jay Stansfield, he will strengthen Fulham FC when he gets a decent run.
We need someone who regularly knows where the goal is and it is about opportunity.
Forward positions are up for grabs.
He is a Fulham man and why would you want to exchange him for someone who may not settle in, that is a far higher risk and can turn out to be costly and bruise Fulhams wallet.

He is wearing a Fulham shirt and he is one of our own, so let us embrace it and wish him well in a Fulham kit.
If it ain't broke don't try and fix it.
What we can do with is a winger who has to be better than we already have.

Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Not against this at all.
Rooting for Jay to do well, just many saying they can understand a scenario where the club would consider other options, which is perfectly reasonable, Because Jay could equally struggle to impact this level just as any new signing could.

Seemingly the club aren't looking to do it now. Great, we get to enjoy getting behind Jay as we assumed we would this year. A situation I think most in the thread commenting or speculating about the prices quoted is more than happy to do.

I don't think that's true. He's 21 and if you take Marco at his word he could just be about to have his break out season in the PL and for a team that many on here believe are mid table to top 10 in terms of quality.

If he does breakthrough and do well, then he's exactly on track for where he should be.

I really hope your right but the distance between being on the brink of a breakthrough and reaching success is massive trust me
And that was really my point
I'm definitely not writing him off

After Tuesday night I would much rather have Jay coming off the bench than Raul.
Let's keep and play the future potential & not the aging warhorses.

Same applies for King and Cairney.

Let's keep and play the future potential & not the aging warhorses.

Same applies for King and Cairney.

Agree there on both counts. If we keep em they deserve the chance to play when senior players aren't performing as well.

"falls below their valuation" reads as we aren't closed to a deal completely should they come back with something higher. Would be surprised if Brum can offer more though in league 1. He stays, for now

Such transfer decisions always carry risk either way

I've stated I'm only happy with it *IF* we bring in a good-quality strike option to replace him. I've already said that I think he's earned the right to his chance, but would accept a scenario where there's a quality option available and we therefore cash in on a prospect who could just as easily be a bust at the top level as he could be a success.

Out you go - the three line comment - was for brevity.
Three quick lines to paraphrase what we appear to be saying to young players

I think the idea looks bad to any player behind him in the academy.
SK has invested a lot of him money into our club and I doubt that investing in our young players development is something he would object too. He is a proud man, proud to be the owner of our club.

It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:
