Quote from: Angus Telford on July 17, 2025, 12:00:49 PMGood news on King.

Not remotely enamoured by Viera. Want any signing to be at least one, if not two of (1) cheap, (2) quality and (3) young. Not sure he's any.

Hope renewals on fringe players like King, TC and LDF aren't the reason our real business hasn't happened yet.

King is being seen by the club and Marco as someone who they deem likely to not be fringe for long. he's likely to continue getting increasing minutes this yeae. They see him in training and at 18 now, if he continues to takes his chances and develops on track, he could get regular minutes and even push for a starting place if the next couple seasons. I doubt they'd be looking to spend significant money on a CAM (having already bought ESR) if hes now showed his intent to commit his future here. As they rightly or wrongly from what they know of him, seem to think he will emerge as a hugely valuable asset. So now that's secured and they have TC signed on, should king still need another development year so have some insurance. Perhaps that enhances our kitty in other areas and what we can offer. Who knows. All speculation

not suggesting it's the only reason for not signing people of course but it logically may have a knock on effect in our budget allocation

In the "next couple of seasons" sure, but you have Cairney and Wilson out of contract next summer and Lukic turning 30. So he may be a solution to next summer's problems. But he's not going to be a regular starter in 25/26 after playing 120 PL minutes last year. If our core transfer business this summer is about improving the first XI, he's not relevant to that.

Do we know that for sure? The club will have a good read on where he's at. He might well contribute much more this year than you're expecting, we'll have to see. Another year older and another full pre season with the first team, if he impresses in pre season he might well be trusted to be legit competition to ESR this year.

We have TC (and AP still for now) and as mentioned multiple other players who can play CAM if ESR is struggling to live up to price tag too. It just seems to me budget is way better allocated to high quality elsewhere, but that perspective is based on 1. A belief ESR can push on this year 2. King can step up again in his development. Of course it's possible that doesn't happen but that's for the club to make a call on.

If we accept it's possible or even likely he could ready to be a prominent player for us by 19 the year after, but we spent massive on another 20m+ CAM this summer we're blocking his route to vital minutes this year to develop into the asset the club think he can be(assuming we don't send him on loan).

If the club back this kid then I just dunno why they'd focus major funds on CAM where we have options already, over Spending that money on top quality CM who can potentially play further forward or back also. (Like a reitz Luiz or viera type)

Each to their own tho

I get where you're coming from but that's basically what we've done with Muniz - held off signing a proper replacement for Mitrovic on the basis that Muniz "might" become that in a couple of years time - and that has somewhat held us back IMO. Now seems we're saying King might be a long term replacement for AP. If we genuinely want to threaten the top half we should replace these key players with proper quality, and have the younger players come in for the likes of Cairney, Wilson and Vinicius. Then we've enough movement/retirement bound to occur over the subsequent years to accommodate new faces in the starting XI if/when they hit that level.

Relates to interest from last Summer luckily

Henry Norris (Fulham chairman who turned down the newly built Stamford Bridge) tried that in 1910. When that didn't work he concentrated on Arsenal alone and bribed his new club's way into the top division in 1919 (at the expense of Spurs who should have been promoted!).

Spoke to a couple of season ticket holders at arsenal who are friends which i do buisness with they said quote viera bloke at arsenal very good footballer but could not hack the physicality of the premier league used him in some European games yes i no silva could do his magic but you can't make him a lion instead of a mouse so I would say no cheap as chips but I don't want them soggy.

Agree, Viera technically very good but physically not up to the premiership leagues grinding it out week after week.

But thats exactly what we did when we bought ESR. We already made a 25m+ signing last summer at CAM and won't be giving up on him yet that's for sure.

If we sell AP who's been playing deeper more so these days then we'll replace him with a CM as we've been linked to. Then next year if ESR and king haven't stepped up then sure, big allocation of funds there to replace a departing TC also

As for Muniz that's a matter of opinion but our strikers have been largely very good and he's not been subject to 30m + bids for nothing, but that's perhaps where well disagree. Said before but I don't think strikers were our issue that cost us last year, much more stupid late goals and momentry blunders or long distance strikes. Stansfield was supposed to be our potential breakthrough player to push them last year but left last minute and so we've dealt with vini as the stop gap. Now this summer we're rightly pursuing another top prospect.

Muniz made 8 PL starts last year so clearly, if he was the solution for #9, Silva didn't get that memo.

I also reckon ESR was played more at LW than #10 but admittedly don't know how to verify that.

Do you think we should have sold Muniz? You clearly don't seem to rate him at anywhere above £15-20 million so ought to think we should have taken their hand off.

ESR played almost entirely at AM, a couple of times at CM and then I think maybe one or two times at LW when he was subbed on. Our AM are pretty left sided and our 8 is pretty right sided, but that is where ESR has been. Usually the front was Iwobi on the left and ESR middle, not sure where you think Iwobi was playing if you think ESR was a winger.

Seems to have been some sort of breakthrough with Seth Ridgeon. From Jack Kelly on X.

I was previously told he'd be off to Utd but now it seems there has been a development. 🤞

That would be amazing if true

Perhaps some lads these days can now see what happens if you move to a big club

Think getting sess back into the club last year and looking at academy players where it hasn't worked out is a good lesson for our academy boys.

Would have sold him for £30m yes.
Don't think he's the full package yet (evidently Marco agrees) and put his chances of getting there at 50:50, maybe 40:60.
Happy for him to be given a chance but certainly it was a mistake to rely on him as first choice last year, hence he was dropped from that role pretty quickly and we had an underwhelming season

Perhaps the tour of the dilapidated Old Trafford & host of unloved/unwanted players was enough to convince Seth to stay?

Agree with most of that, aside from the last sentence.

But I would also add that in Raul we have a genuine class act, yes he is knocking on but him rediscovering his old form was a massive factor in limiting Muniz's playing time until the injury finished him off.

Think it has to be make or break for the lad this season though. There is clearly something there but he needs to kick on and produce it often or end up as a really good Championship/Serie A/La Liga forward for a middling club out there.

This is brilliant news if we can pull it off. Looks a real prospect. Unfortunately we can only sign him for two years because of the stupid rules so may have the same issue in a few. Would however get bigger compensation if in that two years he plays for the first team and if he sees King getting a chance he could think we are a better avenue for first team football.

Managing to keep him with the interest in him is a real statement with the massive clubs trying to get him. Shows that prem stability does give a fighting chance as they can see a path to a prem breakthrough.

Yes I know a few new faces would be nice but on fire on retention if we pull this and then Muniz off (and then maybe Marco?!). Come on Fulham.

Don't know why anyone still wants to join that Micky Mouse shambles's club anymore.

They do however of course so pretty incredible if we pull this off.

He was made number 9, he started season slowly in terms of goals and Raul hit , very very good form so earned starting position from him fairly. Then Muniz really pushed on and was in brilliant form rightly earning his place back as starter , only to get a rake down his Achilles at peak of that form which saw him miss our last 6 games. Had that not happened he'd likely have started those 6.

Again his minutes per goals was right up there with some of the best in the league ...and you can say that's only cos it was end of matches but then all sub strikers would be achieving similar if it were that simple.

And wait ESR was played more at LW for us?? No chance it was Iwobi and before that nelson mostly.
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emile-smith-rowe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392765/plus/0?saison=&verein=931&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=

According to transfermarkt ESR played zero games at LW for us. 31 in CAM and 2 in CM. I specifically remember wondering why we weren't trying him on the left and bringing it up here
