Quote from: Angus Telford on July 17, 2025, 06:53:27 PMMuniz made 8 PL starts last year so clearly, if he was the solution for #9, Silva didn't get that memo.

I also reckon ESR was played more at LW than #10 but admittedly don't know how to verify that.

Do you think we should have sold Muniz? You clearly don't seem to rate him at anywhere above £15-20 million so ought to think we should have taken their hand off.

ESR played almost entirely at AM, a couple of times at CM and then I think maybe one or two times at LW when he was subbed on. Our AM are pretty left sided and our 8 is pretty right sided, but that is where ESR has been. Usually the front was Iwobi on the left and ESR middle, not sure where you think Iwobi was playing if you think ESR was a winger.

Would have sold him for £30m yes.
Don't think he's the full package yet (evidently Marco agrees) and put his chances of getting there at 50:50, maybe 40:60.
Happy for him to be given a chance but certainly it was a mistake to rely on him as first choice last year, hence he was dropped from that role pretty quickly and we had an underwhelming season

I wouldnt have sold him for 30 in this market , 40+ maybe.

I also think he still has a level to step up to in terms of consistency across a season but this is why I'm glad were bringing in another CF In someone like Romulo. Wed have had Jay that Marco had high hopes for to push Muniz and raul last year but he dipped with days left and we had to resort to vini. again our issue tho was less our strikers scoring and more not keeping clean sheets and seeing out games. We rarely failed to score last year as I recall.

That is 100% wrong.
I'm willing to accept he may not have been used primarily on the left hence I caveated the original claim.
But he was definitely on the left multiple games.

Transfer thread or chance to slag off any players we already have?

So your original point that he isn't an attacking midfielder and didn't play there at all is wrong? Is that too much to concede?

Iwobi was playing on the wing then. Did we have two left wingers? Silva consistently puts our AM off to one or the other side in order to combine with wingers and fullbacks, does that mean that they are no longer an attacking midfielder?

Wasn't overly impressed with Nelson in the games he played and he has shown over seasons that he is unavailable through injury for considerable parts of most seasons.
Pursuing a deal to get him back makes very little sense to me, and worse smacks of desperation and lack of confidence in landing other wide playing targets

If and a big if of course he can stay fit there is a top player there. Only played just under 500 mins for us so effectively 5 games. A goal and assist. In the 90's for percentiles for shot creating actions, pass completion, progressive carries, progressive passes, successful take ons and even interceptions and blocks whilst being high on tackling:

Small sample but if you go through other seasons same story. All of that beats a low block and against better teams makes us very good on the break.

He just needs to stay fit and sometimes surgery can do that. We'll see but a loan with an option it's defo worth a go in my eyes when you look at what he could offer if fit. I expect t we'll have more cover this year on the wing anyway with more players still to come in so hopefully leaves us less short if he does go down again this year.

Nelson and Adama in my opinion are our only wingers who looked comfortable taking a man on which provided a different kind of threat and profile to Iwobi, Wilson and Sess. Fun player to watch, albeit a bit frustrating at times.

If we can get most of a season of this Nelson we're onto a winner. Was quality in this game:

Fulham Fan News:

"Hearing Nelson will be left behind on Saturday when AFC go to Asia so he can sort his future. Latest is AFC want an obligation whereas FFC wants an option.
Think it'll get sorted tbh."

Option much better of course so let's hope we can negotiate that. Obligation if he played say 30 games isn't too bad but always a risk he's fine for the first 30 and then the hammy goes! Fingers crossed it's an option.

He scored coming off the left hand side but he wasn't deployed there I don't think explicitly he'd just drifted out there at that momwnt if I recall correctly. Id have to go back and watch the game to confirm tho

If he ever did play LW it would have been in brief cameo moments or drifting wide in moments. He was almost always played CAM

Here's the highlights

Other than the goal in one breakaway moment where Iwobi has tucked inside, you will find ESR clearly deployed CAM with Iwobi wide left

He's in the left in the subsequent highlight after the goal.
I was at that game, among others -- don't care what BBC or Transfermarkt are saying about where he was "deployed", he spent plenty of time out on the left.
We've drifted a long way from the original discussion (whether we should refrain from signing anyone so that there's space for King in 2026) so i will leave it there.

Traore and Iwobi are central when the goal you reference is scored, AP and Munizon the right and ESR about as far out to the left as AP is to the right. Does this mean that Muniz isn't a striker and we had AP and ESR as wingers with Traore and Iwobi playing central?

It is curious how we played so many games without any attacking midfielder since apparently the only one other than King that we have in the squad is Pereira. THAT is the original point, and ESR played the majority of the minutes at AM last season, so it is incredibly odd for you to discount him completely in order to make some ham fisted point since you refuse to concede any ground without doing a load of 'caveats' (aka being wrong and not wanting to admit it).

Does the transfer thread have any transfer news or rumours?

In fairness it must by now be expected that a transfer thread will heavily feature me arguing with Jayffc.

After the January window thread IIRC he blocked me. Must have served my time.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. How did we end up with highlights of old matches. This thread always gets taken over by the Angus and Jay show.

OZ-WHITE

Looks like everyones forgotten that if we bring in a back up Left Back either permanent or loan the frees us Sess to play Left Wing and we only need a back up Left Wing either permanent or loan to come off the bench
If it wasn't for the medication I,d be chewing on your skin

Lighthouse

Fulham are waiting for the Women's Euros to end before announcing signings.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

I was at the game too...he occasionally rotated wide like often happens in attacking buildups but as per majority of clips, he was playing CAM...also confirmed by team lineup on every platform and Google and in majority match highlights he's clearly middle of pitch with Iwobi way wide.

As he was all season, which was one of the original points as to the need for CAM signing. Yea sometimes he drifted out rotating close with Iwobi coming inside...but he has always been deployed as a 10 for us. (Id actually like to have seen him wide more often bt) Not sure why youre insisting on dying in this hill though, maybe just cos it's me saying it 😅

Didn't think this one was a particularly bad exchange 😅 was on track till derailing around ESR. All still kinda links back to transfer needs at least

Again this is silly season thread, if people want a transfer rumour feed only just follow fulham fan news or the daily  Fulham stuff threads and you'll get exactly what ya looking for 🤷

As for the question above "how did we get here"...if you read through you'll see it comes from a discussion on wether or not it makes sense to spend large amounts of budget on a CAM....it's a perfectly topical debate therefore for a transfer thread. If it's not of interest, again, there are x feeds where you can exclusively get transfer news and nothing else.
