He could take the year off and still be the starting LB at the WC. The US has no one close at his position.

The silence around our clubs potential signings (in & out) is deafening and I would like to see us sign players asap.

But it's clear to me this quiet and careful approach is how we do business.

I bet by the end of the window we will have brought in at least 3 or 4 players who will be challenging to be starters, a mix of buys and loans.

Do I  know this for sure, well it happens every year so why not this coming season?
And if that is seen as a silly comment then its very appropriate for this page.

It's actually 4 of the last 5 seasons that we haven't made a signing by this point in time (26 days before the start of the season). So as frustrating as it may be, you certainly can't say (at least as of today) that we've been "passive even by our own standards".

Well it's actually 4 out of 13 seasons under Khan so it is passive by our standards if you aren't selectively picking a date range to suit a particular argument. On average post-MAF we've signed 3 players by now.

The fact is we've just been especially passive for 2-3 years now, hence a low net spend, bottom half finishes, and being overtaken by the clubs that came up with us.

The core point was there not being any sign so far that those things will be arrested this summer.

When people go on about the amount of money we spend in comparison to other clubs does anyone ever consider the amount of money wasted on players by other clubs that don't live up to their reputation?

Or even the inflated prices paid by clubs in relation to their actual performance?
And yes, I know we have had a few dudes over the years as well.

Does anyone actually understand the difference between our clubs revenue and many others and how it affects how much we can spend even if the billionaire owner wants to splash the cash!

If anyone is selectively picking a date range to suit a particular argument it's certainly not the guy looking at the most recent five year period for the club. And of course those 5 years also represent the most successful period of the club under the current ownership so I'm not sure why one would be looking back approvingly on a period when our transfer business got us relegated from the PL and then kept us in the Championship for an extended period of time. But look, we get it, your schtick around here is overly negative contrarianism and you'll never admit when that contrarianism leads you to say something incorrect (which is quite frequently these days)...you'll just move the goal posts to some other argument different from than the one that had originally prompted someone to call you out...

That's really fixing the stats for the narrative though. Reality is our highest points total is now bottom half stuff, previous highest gained 7th place, it shows it has not kept up.

In terms of the other teams mentioned, their trajectory is what really matters and it is a steeper curve than us

The irony.

Forest having 2 seasons battling relegation and one freak season where their position is based entirely off poor refereeing decisions in their favour, luck and a very average keeper and striker having the best seasons of their careers. Bournemouth finishing 1 point above us in 23/24 and 2 points above us in 24/25. What a meteoric rise they've both had while we're left in the dust...

and no, our highest points total "is now bottom half stuff" shows that the league is a much tougher league now. Complete opposite of not keeping up.

I think I ran the numbers on this and it was the only time or one other in the entire premier league history or something that that points tally would have you bottom half and several times it would have had you in Europe.

But as ever, if ones general outlook is to find the most negative angle of looking at something possible then it will be found and justified time and time again. Just as I'm sure one would argue the opposite.

You're the one who keeps going on about trends and the long run, why is it that it isn't relevant all of a sudden?

Anyway, since people (or well, you at least) keep doom-mongering that the point total and placement we got to is a sham due to a weak league because Manchester United and Tottenham were underperforming, consider that the table you posted above if those games didn't count would be:

Nottingham Forest 53
Fulham 50
Bournemouth 48

If Manchester United are going to earn extra points they would have to get them somewhere, but we always seem to lose to them anyway so it won't affect our point total.

Why is that about three of you can't have a discussion about football without giving your take on the other poster's state of mind, "schtick", your perception of their post history, etc etc? Think it would be healthier for all concerned if we stuck to an objective debate about football, rather than you tying yourself in knots trying to prove Telford wrong.

Agree with this, he is very handsomely paid and underperformed last season. If he can't even keep from endorsing terrorist hate crimes, even as a joke, I would like to see him moved on.

Now it is possible that he fat fingered or that he didn't properly look at it so I'm not going to hold off on judgement on it until there is context. But it ain't a good look.

Do you really judge a people by a "like" on social media? What a woke nonsense.

On top of that Leno was as good as ever last season. One of the last members of Fulham squad I would look to replace.

Agree with 2nd half 100%, Leno was great last season and one of our players of season IMO.
Don't think you would be saying that he underperformed last season if that hadn't come up. (Not saying I agree he should be liking posts like that on social media - but he defo didn't fall of last season)

That's not even close to true. Last season was comfortably his worst in a Fulham shirt. In 22-23 he led the league in goals prevented, was 2nd of 23 in PSxG-GA (the advanced shot stopping stat) and had 1 error leading to a shot on goal. In 23-24 he was 13th of 19th in goals prevented, 12th of 25 in PSxG-GA and had 1 error leading to a shot on goal. And finally last season he was 17th of 19 in goals prevented, 16th of 22 in PSxG-GA and had 5 errors leading to a shot on goal. So while for a variety of reasons we're not in the market to replace him this summer, his drop in form over the last couple seasons is a real cause for concern.

Fair enough, disagree. Don't have loads of stats to prove my argument so that's interesting .. but from the eye test I did not notice a drop in his performances.
