On a serious note, I think they're offloading him because he's had injury issues whilst in Saudi? Perhaps as well as the fact that it's not a good league and he's realised what an error he's made..

Only been in Saudi for two years, but has been banging them in for fun when he has played.

I wonder what the club and Marco think?

There'd be no resale value at all given he's 30. Probably past his best.

I don't know if we were 'actually' in relegation form, BUT, you can't deny that the end of the season was terrible, some very poor results, lost chances for higher table finish and possible Euro qualification due to poor results v lower table clubs.  Very disappointing finish to last season campaign....

The poor form towards the end of the season coincided with Muniz being out. This may have been a coincidence but it is a good reason why we should not contemplate selling Muniz, but work hard on extending his contract.

The problem is if you ask 10 supporters they would probably have 10 different answers, a good player for one is a bad player for another. We know that whoever we sign someone on here will moan about it.

Because standing still is a recipe for disaster. Look what happened in 2014. It took the best part of a decade to recover. The squad must evolve season by season. I'm still hopeful that the club will make the signings the squad so desperately requires because it suffered towards the end of last season when results were poor.

To be fair to not include amortised fees in the rules would make little sense I would have thought. That would essentially mean you could spend what you want on the transfer fee which spending within means was part of the point of the regulations in the first place. May be folk are wrong but the Athletic seems to suggest amortised fees are included from what I can see snd they are usually very reliable. Agree seems like madness!

But the UEFA system, which is apparently the model here, doesn't include amortised transfer fees. It's wages that are crippling clubs - Fulham as an example, £20m net spend on transfers last year, £150m on wages. And as I said, to bring both wages and transfer spending combined under 85% of revenue is equally nonsensical given how epicly far from that most clubs are right now, where wages alone are typically close to that threshold. I wonder if it was just the 20th-place "anchoring" element that was supposed to cover transfer fees, and the Athletic et al misinterpreted that.

All just feels too fishy for me, to suddenly be picked up by the forum and elsewhere midway through the window, when it's apparently been in the pipeline for 2+ years.

I just can't see it happening, whether that's for the reasons given earlier (contingency on Man City case, PFA challenge etc) or just because it'll be plain suicidal for the PL (at least in the form suggested, ie, including transfer fees as well).

Has however been good to discuss and read about in the absence of transfer news. Gonna have to give myself an enforced mental break now.

Yeah fair enough mate. I agree that just can't understand how it will work as on the face of it no one will be compliant! As I say though the articles suggest it's wages and amortised fees as per the link I posted but who knows. I too am sick of thinking about it!

 

Let's just hope the club can get over whatever the hell is stopping them signing anyone right now as clearly it's killing us all.
