Quote from: Lighthouse on August 10, 2025, 04:13:49 PMthe need to constantly find somebody to blame for imagined failures is shockingly short sighted.

The criticism of our conduct on particular rumoured transfer attempts is indeed mostly speculative. But the overall failures aren't imagined. The fact we haven't signed anyone except a 34-year-old backup keeper isn't imagined. And there are only really 2-3 people who can conceivably be to blame, all of them Fulham employees.
They don't all work for Fulham, you have the selling clubs, the players concerned and their agents, it's not one sided negotiations.

Re Elliott at £40m+, admittedly I only saw links at £30m but I guess at £40m we'd get the discounted rate but still a tad heavy, hence why even at £30m I don't think we'd really be in the mix.

FFC1987

Supposedly rejected £40m + bonuses for Kevin....if anyone's wondering why we're not signing quality young players it's partly to do with this I guess. That's crazy money.

Or because we don't scout at the right level, leaving ourselves open to buying players at these prices after becoming big

Wonder if Kevin is going to be this years Numah/Cherki. Don't see it being finished before teams like Napoli bow out in any case.

Apparently Napoli are out as worried about the injury

If Marco and/or our scouting team are confident Kevin will be a good fit in terms of both style and the quality required, I wouldn't mind spending even more than our second offer. I'd rather we spent big on the left wing position and get cheaper alternatives elsewhere, as I think that it's the only position where we absolutely need to get someone (midfield too, but I think we need to sell someone first there, preferably Reed). Iwobi is our only natural left winger in the squad at the moment. In every other position we have 2+ players.

Read the below from a Shakhtar fan on Reddit, he also added he thought Kevin was the best Brazillian they have had since Taison and Marlos

If I had to guess, I think the deal will happen. Shakhtar usually quotes high, but is willing to negotiate this a bit less than 50 million. It's part of their reputation to let the players (especially Brazilians) move on.

Will see where this one goes, injury does concern me but he does look insanely talented. 50M also sounds steep but he looks rapid, crazy good 1v1, incredibly gifted technically and like he understands the game well.

It's perfectly fulhamish that we have concrete links with a player like Kevin who is on paper a dream signing... but he's injured.

In this most testing of silly seasons this is some peak silly season shenanigans.

At this point would people be happy with the signing even if he's injured?

Shaktar reporting its not a hamstring but meniscus injury so I guess not as bad as originally thought.

Yeah if Napoli are out we are not a million miles apart so you could definitely see this happening now. Would probably be the most exciting signing we've ever made on paper. Obviously he could turn out to not be as good as we hope or the injury could be an issue but if Marco desperately wants him I'll just trust in that, be absolutely buzzing and pray he is the real deal. Everything crossed.

Meniscus can be very bad as well I believe but depends how bad a meniscus injury.

To be fair if really the reason Napoli have dropped out probably our only chance to sign a player who is so highly rated. Potentially a big risk but also high potential reward if the hype is warranted.

Such a good point. I just don't understand why we can't identity and recruit talent like Kevin.  There's something fundamentally wrong with our recruitment strategy. Or at least that's the way it looks to me.

For the money we have reportedly offered we could comfortably get Romulo for what has been asked.

Yeah thought this myself. Second record signing never plays.

It's a different position mate and one where we are only looking for a back up. No one knows but you would guess Romulo may prefer Leipzig as with Sesko gone more likely to get game time but just a guess. We also probably don't rate him anywhere near as highly as this guy. Marco must believe he's pretty special if we are bidding this on him. Let's pray he's correct if it comes off.
