Good spot, although wasn't it Europa League rather than UCL? So now they're in the Conference League, so even less bargaining power.

The transfer team will be pushing every penny they can down until it gets hijacked.

Quote from: Yamus on August 15, 2025, 01:04:04 PMWell if we cannot get new players perhaps we could appoint a new captain, doesn't have to be the best player just a leader of men.Calvin Bassey would be my choice.

Not really a serious or senior enough character yet for a captain imo. In a few years maybe although he might have moved on by then.

Robinson is a very intelligent man who's shown great passion for the club. My vote would be him, Lukic or Anderson when it isn't Tom

I'm with Yamus. Calvin for me as well. His willingness to show a relaxed side to life is an asset. As much as some need a captain who gets in their face and tell them to buck their ideas up. Others react to a smile and a reminder they're good enough.

Not a bad call but Bassey could be the wild card that's worth a chance.

Right or wrong, Anderson has yet to prove himself having re-joined us after a loan to CP

Much work to do as yet on that score, although I admire & like him & think he has it all as far as the future is concerned. A possible Captain in future years. Go on & prove it Anderson!!

Anderson was only on loan to us first time round. It was Palace who signed him permanently and we then bought him from them.

He hasn't performed on the pitch quite as well as he did in his first spell with us imo, but he has presence and makes himself heard. I'd pick him as captain personally.

Finnans Right Peg

Has to be Jeddi ,always leads by example and it might keep him here for the rest of his career

Sting of the North

We have a captain. Or did we sell TC, and I missed it in between all the usual bickering here?

Lighthouse

The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Yamus' point was about choosing a new captain - a leader of men etc.

Cairney's only going to get fewer and fewer minutes on the pitch as time goes on so it's worth discussing.

Sure, anything can be discussed. We do know that if TC doesn't play, it's Jedi, and if he also doesn't play it's Leno. Unlikely to change anytime soon. TC hasn't been a regular starter for about 4 years, but still is captain. I am confident it won't change.

In any case, leaders lead with or without an armband, so in my opinion it's a non-issue.

The 10 minutes he gets every so often has a real impact on the team so an obvious choice to remain as captain.

Isn't there a group of captains or leaders Marco has created...?

Cairney, historically BDR, Leno, Reed...

I'm a fan of bassey, and think his ability on the ball is impressive and up there, but to have leadership positions, he essentially needs to be more responsible and adult. Not saying he can't be that, but he's shown/seen as the joker of the group. You have to have the respect of people to properly lead. I don't think, in his current guise, he's that person. He could be, but he'd need to get serious in a way he hasn't before. (In a leadership way, not necessarily in the way he plays).
