Does Nelson actually exist,or is he a figment of our imagination..Talk about a saga,Forest went after two players the other day, they were in the door in 3 days.
How many weeks now since Nelson was supposed to be done and dusted.🤔

Could Josh king be a No.8?

I'm not saying I don't think we should sign a No.8 but I don't see the powers that be going for it, Andreas, Cairney, Iwobi & King could all fill in there.

Cairney didn't really have the legs to be a box to box midfielder when he was in his 20s, much less now. Andreas was played there several times last season and was ineffectual at best. Only one out of them that I could see being able to fill that role is King but it is a lot of responsibility to put on him.

I'd say that CM is where we have the worst drop off in quality between first and second choice line up other than LB (don't really know about Lecomte) but no LB that is at the same level Robinson is going to come here to sit on the bench 95% of games, whereas Lukic and Berge are just decent PL quality players that we could reasonably upgrade on.

Quote from: Deeping_white on August 19, 2025, 09:12:57 AMOn the #8 reqiurement; yes in theory Pereira can play there, but he's awful every time he does it, TC is a fantastic technical player but he's getting on a bit and we need someone who can get up and down the pitch for 90 mins who is an improvement on Lukic/Berge to raise the level of the squad. King could play there but I think he's shown he's better roaming in that #10 role, and Iwobi honestly feels like a bit of a square peg in a round hole trying to play him there

I'd play Iwobi there IF Kevin doesn't get lost in New York! It's what he has said is his favoured position and has played there for club and country previously. He's only been on the wings as he is a versatile player but he would be very affective as an 8.

I think some people are getting a bit carried away in terms of the number of signings we are going to make.

Even if Godo leaves - there is no way we will sign 3 wingers! I suspect the plan is Kevin as first choice and Nelson as second choice if we fail to reach agreement with Shakhtar in the coming days (probably why the Nelson signing is stalled). I'm hoping Sterling is the third choice.

I'm sure that we will sign a third striker - but that is being complicated by the possibility of Muniz leaving and whether or not the club need to change tack.

With regard to the midfield - I only see a player coming in if Pereira and/or Reed leaves. Obviously Pereira will give us a bigger transfer fee and that probably dictates the calibre of player we bring in (shame that Douglas Luiz appears to be going to Forest).

So, I make it three signings tops - and more likely only two unfortunately.

Think people so need to remember King's age, he's not a first seasoned first team regular and there will be a drop off at some point.

If we can then I think we should just go get Sterling as soon as we can. If it doesn't work out then he just replaces Willian as a third option, but if he does work out we have a proper player on our hands.

If we do sign him, Kevin, and/or Sterling - for me it will safely put to bed the nonsense that the club like to do things quietly and bring things out of the blue because of doing it that way. These have, like most summers, been exceptionally drawn out transfer sagas for me.

Isn't the whole point of inverted wingers that they are supposed to be a direct goal threat as opposed to crossing from the byline?

If I'm paying someone over 50k per week I expect them to have 2 good feet and be able to go either way and be able to cross and shoot

Until Arsenal change their stance on including an obligation to buy it will drag on. Something has to budge.

I don't think King should start every game and I don't think he will. Marco will probably rest him for the odd league game in three but maybe keep him in the staring line-up for cup games. I think to start around 25-30 games (tops) is about right for his first full season as a member of the first team squad. Hopefully that way it keeps him fresh for the entire season.

As refreshing as King is, he also has to be judged on output, so if he looks good but doesn't meaningfully contribute in the form of goals and assists, as a no. 10 his place should be under threat.

Quote from: Bill2 on August 19, 2025, 09:44:19 AMThat position demands someone who will score goals and while Iwobi does score and we are yet to see what Josh can do Andreas only scored 2 last season and Lukic and Berger not a single goal between them. Tom will only ever be a bench player this year.
Not sure that is the case in our system. Both Lukic and Berge got more goal contributions before coming to Fulham. Our fullbacks often play almost as wingers, which means that our 2 midfielders in a pivot need to be more careful. Even when the eight joins the attack, it is usually on the wing, in a crossing position. I do not think that would change how much they score, regardless who plays there, although we could probably find someone who is a better crosser of the ball and then we would get more assits perhaps. I do agree that we need another eight though, as I think it it timw to upgrade on Reed.

I was questioning blaming 'inverted wingers' for our lack of goals. Inverted wingers became a thing specifically because they offered more direct goal threat by going inside along with overlapping fullbacks becoming the norm.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to argue though.

Mullers OG

I suspect part of the delay in signing new wingers, and how many, depends on whether we can sell any of the current ones. With no real goal threat from midfield we need our wide players to be goal threats. Wilson, Sess when he plays further forward, and Iwobi score whilst Traore doesn't. If there's any truth in the rumour that Forest are interested in him then we should sell him quickly and make space.

Berge and Lukic are both very good players but I'm not convinced we get the best out of either of them with our current tactics. I haven't seen much of Lukic pre-Fulham, but I've seen quite a bit of Berge. I always regarded Berge as more of a box-to-box midfielder. He can do a decent job at DM but he is obviously not a like-for-like replacement for Palhinha. I was very surprised when we seemingly signed him as such. Berge is definitely not a DM "destroyer" like Palhinha. Of course, with our current double pivot we don't really use Berge in the Palhinha role after all, but we do use him as a sort of number 6 and I'm not entirely convinced that this is the best role for him. His driving runs carrying the ball forward used to be a much bigger part of his game (at least at Championship level) and we don't see much of that.

Lukic and Berge are both important players for us, but ideally maybe both of them shouldn't be regular starters.

I do agree that we need a new midfielder, but as an upgrade on Reed (or actually maybe more as a long term upgrade on Cairney). The problem is of course that if we do get a more creative midfielder and stick with the same tactics, we may not get the best out of him either...

A winger and a contract extension for Muniz are both still higher on my wishing list.

I do think our tactics need to change, rather than trying to fit players into the same tactics

Ornstein saying Spurs are the only ones in for Eze, that must mean he's no good right? ::wink::

Spurs with Eze and Kudas on the wings is a frightening proposition.

Lighthouse

By September 1st at 7PM we would have signed two wingers, a forward and a central midfielder. Some will be loans. Some will probably be waiting for the forms to fill in. Some will miss the bus from Putney Bridge and arrive too late for the medical which wasn't at The Cottage anyway.

Monday week is a long way off. Plenty of time.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Out of interest has anyone paid attention to whether TK has shown any interest in anything fulham related on Socials this summer window? I had a precursory look at his twitter account and it's all wrestling stuff.
