Quote from: flyingfish on August 22, 2025, 03:06:50 PMDoes this mean Kevin has fallen through? There's been no news in days?

Nelson was supposed to have been done weeks ago,I personally believe the club is putting out false info, just to keep the fans interested and hoping we are going after players that we're not really interested in...Joke carry on.

I think Nelson is a genuine target and on our list but because of injury the club are trying to negotiate the way its been suggested in the press. He could also be the option second to Kevin signing.

Not much looking seemingly likely atm though.

The owners don't want Nelson, I've been told that first hand, he's a Marco target, not theirs. Yes, there are big concerns over his fitness, but also his 110K salary a week, that Arsenal want us to fully absorb with an obligation. I can see the concerns, but I can't also work out why they've not been working on an alternative.

This is exactly what I have been told by a board member.  They see Nelson as a big risk.  Doesn't matter to Marco as he has less than a year left.  Our priority was ALWAYS to keep the squad together and add in a few places. This will still happen.  I know for a fact that Marco has a list of players he wants but without a big sale this would bust the club. Marco must know this so I really don't understand the outburst unless it purely posturing

Depressing if true.

I understand club prudence and to a degree I understand not communicating the full situation to the fan base (as that would undermine any negotiations with any club if we aired our dirty laundry publicly)

But clearly something isn't right.

And I have to say, IF Marco is getting his excuses in / prepping the narrative for a departure, I have to say that he would be coming across as remarkably unambitious.

Surely a manager who backed his talents would see potential to do better with a settled base (augmented by King etc) rather than set unrealistic transfer targets, moan and leave.

As with this whole transfer window it's all speculation in lieu of something concrete but it's all bad vibes right now

Quote from: FFC007 on August 22, 2025, 07:22:18 PMEverton have had a £42m bid for Dibling accepted...

Given how precarious their finances were... this is astonishing.

If Fulham are intent on holding back and only signing a freebie then we should all be worried.

We can't afford to go back to yo yo land with the EFL.

What is going on this window? £42m for Dibling? It's like every other PL club collectively went mad and started throwing their money around.

This window has been ridiculous in terms of quoted prices.

I really do see the business sense in not engaging with SOME of the tripe prices going - not that that excuses a £400K net spend.

Personally would be fuming if we spent £40+ mill on a teenager who looked average last year. That sort of money should be for a marquee signing who will deliver not a development project.

Quote from: McBrideOfFrankenstein on August 22, 2025, 06:32:38 PMI honestly still love this squad. I don't think a new signing is critically needed from a talent perspective, but it might be from a morale perspective, simply to show some ambition to the players and manager.
Americans!!

Yeah. Maybe we need more of them...  :guitar-playHDs:

Realistically, we could sell Pereira, Godo, and bring in one starting CM and one starting winger (that can play CF if needed) and it would be an upgrade. I get that people are concerned about an aging squad, but Marco also needs to freshen up his playing style a bit. We are very, very predictable. That's on Marco. Sure, new players will help, but only new starters. New "back up" players won't do it. That will cost a pretty penny... I might be in the minority, but if Marco can freshen his tactics and bit, and we get two quality starters in the next 10 days, I'm still of the opinion that we will have a better season than last.

Why would Nuno come to FFC if his issue is recruitment at Forest? Out of the frying pan into the fire!

His main issue appears to be Edu the director of football. At Fulham, he will have no such problems as TK is off wrestling and the manager is the one who dictates transfer targets.

In Conclusion:
The Kahn's have always struck me as being two steps forward one step back operators (this is not a criticism, we all have to learn) but this year there has been no squad progress and that's not penny pinching that speaks more of a hidden agenda. Perhaps we are now adopting an Ajax model in providing a pathway for our youth to the first team and thereby differentiating ourselves from our competitors in attracting more top quality youth to our club but the Premiership is a very different beast to the Dutch Eredivisie. Anyway, 10 days to go, so anything can still happen, like the odd player coming through the door..., maybe.

The youth option is not designed with Marco, as Head Coach, in mind. Perhaps the plan is to oust Marco (without a pay-off) and bring in a replacement who is youth orientated. Danny Rohl ex Wednesday was mentioned a few months ago, is he open to promoting youth?

iansthailand

You might be correct but why does it feel like it happens every year? Even still, we should be buying players whose international schedule lines up with the European football schedule. (Obviously if Fulham were offered Salah, you'd take him regardless of his international schedule.)

He wouldn't come here. Jedi bottling him up at training as well as in matches would really piss him off!

One thing TK won't wrestle Nuno!

McBrideOfFrankenstein

I really like Nelson as a squad player but that salary is high. It's down to the academy he's from and doesn't reflect his career production. Don't blame the owners being wary of it. But we do need a player around his level. I think we don't mine the weaker European leagues enough. Let's sign a Swede or something 😂

With the squad cost rules next year I wonder whether the days of ridiculous salaries for players is coming to an end

I think his issue is he is not choosing the players they are signing.

Sell Andreas and Godo for a combined £20M gives us £80M amortised over 4 years however I doubt it will help Squad Cost Rules so much but the extra revenue will help.  There is nobody else that I can think of who we would happily sell this window that could do much.

Next summer window is probably the one for changes.  Example would be to sell Robinson big £60M.  Bye bye Raul, Traore, TC, Reed and replace with younger talent who will be on much reduced salaries.  This seems to me our only real option.

We are being run by the Premier League and it's bloody silly rules and this must be driving the Khans crazy.  I have no idea how much the Riverside will help, a bit I expect but not necessarily a game changer, the costs are just too big.

Another tactic would be to just spend and sod the consequences, take the fine and points deduction and build a squad that will be miles from relegation.  We are however risk adverse, we do run the club tight to the budget but are financially very secure and no way that is changing under Mackintosh.

That's sums up our issue, not being fluid in selling as well as buying, aging team leads to non transfer revenues to balance the books and buy off. A club like us won't have significant revenue streams over and above paying the players, who in turn don't offer much sell on value as they age. We need to become much more agile than we are

Our wages and amortisation costs need to be below 80%. They are currently around 117%, massive issue for next season.  Buying players on expensive contracts and wages likely to make that worse, need to sell to bye.

Does sound as though Kevin off the table for now

If we don't buy a replacement CM I wonder if Ridgeon gets minutes at some point. I suppose buying two wingers would also mean Iwobi can play CM

Exactly and when your AVG age is 29 that sell ability is diminishes. We will have another year of depriciation on past purchases which will lower the ration a bit. Past strategy was clearly so short term we are backed into a corner with very little get out options

Chukwueze from Milan makes no sense after Marco's AFCON comments yesterday.

It's as though those negotiating transfers are deliberately going against the managers wishes.

Brace ourselves for King being sold for a big fee next summer for a rebuild under a new manager. In the meantime try to enjoy what we have & more youth being given opportunities or at least sat on the bench.
