Sounds like chuk is all but signed at this poiint, expecting movement after their game tonight. So maybe he's first in the door tomorrow.

Either way, what will be will be. Plenty times we've made multiple signings in last few days. This one will have to be no different

But this isn't "no different". In past seasons we have made some last minute signings but have already got a few through the door (lateish perhaps but not last minute). This time we haven't signed one single outfield player, so all our signings will be last minute. That is definitely different.
Not saying we might not come up trumps but I cannot recall ever seeing such brinkmanship from our club before.
Don't think anyone would want to 'come up Trumps'

Very fair point.

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 29, 2025, 12:26:39 PMNot having signed anyone except a 34-year-old backup keeper as at 29 August is definitely a first. I take the point, and agree, that this was probably one of the best squads we've ever had at the start of the window, but nonetheless, this is our most passive window since the 1990s if not going even further back.

And if our only further business is Chukwueze and a mediocre loanee to replace Perreira (which is all I reckon we'll get) it'll have to go down as our worst window since 2011.

Yeh if it's just a winger and a CM then, depending on what impact they make, it could well end up a poor window. Contract extensions have gone well, keeping team together gone well, but now we gotta make those key upgrades.

I suspect we'll get 3 more in the door personally with one of the wide players being capable of playing through the middle but will see Monday before I get stuck into evaluating it all too much.

I tend to agree - 3 in (at a push).ย  Unless we do sell Godo (and Traore), I would be surprised if we get more than one winger in. My preference is Kevin, but Chukwueze looks far more likely at this stage. With just over three days left, the club have left it way too late to get any more than 3 players in - most likely at least one will be a loan and probably deal sheets involved!

There's time imo. Most of these deals like Kevin and chuk- nelson and sterling have been discussed for quite some time now. Only the deals need to be signed subject to medicals by end of Monday.

Who we want to actually sign off on well see. As I say I suspect rather than a third striker maybe we go for a winger who can easily play as forward. Sterling fits that profile with Kevin somewhat capable of it too from what I've seen. There's a chance we even look this season to have Iwobi play more in the 8. Who knows, not long now

Why did you "" quote something I didn't say? I didn't say it was "no different?"

I've made this point before recently, this season has transpired absolutely as later business than usual. But it's also the best squad we've gone into the summer with so assume that's their rationale here (wether id prefer it ideally earlier or not). Don't think we've ever had a settled squad this good without any major outgoings in recent history. Our team is already proving its competitive in the first 3 games.

My point was purely that we have made significant numbers of signings before late in the window (wether there's usuallly been more before them or not). We don't need a ton of signings we just need quality additions.

Chuk (seems basically done)
Kevin/sterling/nelson (we've had plenty enough conversations it seems prior to complete one of these)
A CM
+ Maybe a striking option (although sterling has played plenty of football at CF so it may be if we opt for him that's seen as covering us in two spots.

You said, "This one will have to be no different". I did not misquote you as far as I can see.

As further explained in last message:
I wasn't refering to the window as a whole...was a specific point of having shown ability to sign several players in the last part of the window. We will have to do that here

ffc73

Yes but you also need to consider we've lost three outfield players since last season (Nelson, Willian, Vinicius) so it's a net negative. Plus Godo and Pereira are supposedly on the way out.
[/quote]

I am working on the assumption, which Marco may not like, is that the Club view King as Pereira's replacement.

The other 4. Can someone with more time than I have on my lunch break, work out & advise how much game time Nelson, Willian, Vini & Godo played last season?

Not a lot I'd guess & again presume the Club are not looking for more than 1, maybe 2 replacements for these 4.

Are you disagreeing on that we have signed multiple players towards the end of windows before? Because that is all that Jay said. He didn't even say that it was good or bad, just that we need multiple signings in the last few days.

I swear people glance over text and interpret it however it suits what they want to say anyway. Just make a separate post about it instead of misquoting someone.

We need strength in depth though, that's the key issue. With AFCON on the horizon, likely suspensions for a few outfield players and the risk of injury, we need more cover.

Genitalmen,

Rest assured we shall all be put
out of our misery one way of another officially by 7pm Monday 1st September 2025.
Then we can pour ourselves a Large Napoleon Brandy to either celebrate or commiserate.
I can confirm that jumping off Putney Bridge into the River Thames is forbidden.

Jay should have said "no different in that respect." Otherwise, that statement just reads as this window being "no different" to previous windows, which Twig IMO is perfectly entitled to interpret as a general comparison and point out why, as such, it's false.

Guys ,We dont need more messages on it. I've explained, clearly, In several messages since. I would have thought it pretty obvious no one was suggesting this is just like other windows exactly.
It only reads that way if you take it that way, because it equally makes perfect sense for what I meant, as it was written.

Doesn't need a semantic break down at this point. I can see how it was taken out of intended context or misinterpreted. But it also made sense at it was. it's been explained. On we go

OZ-WHITE

So, only a loan deal discussed and Milan would need a depth replacement to consider first

Loan with option that turns to obligation (presumably based on appearances)

Nkunku on way to Milan

Jack Kelly's tweets with Silvas comments are not good regarding the window. Hard to disagree with him at this point.

Not a good window and getting worse as each day passes.

jayffc

Whoever comes in now doesnt play tomorrow anyway at this point.

So it's down to wire Monday.

Well see what we end up with.

Silva says he wants 2 wingers and a midfielder but striker seems unlikely

So reinforces the guess we go the route ofย  2 wingers one who has potential to be third striking option if needed

You know what, I'm done with this poo. Go and print yourself special clever little boy plaque to put above your bed so you can feel proud.

This forum is getting increasingly useless and is mostly pointless slap fighting where people don't even disagree, they just want to argue.

What the hell is going on!? Shocking from Shahid, Ali Mac and Tony, they've completely ballsed up this window and got it wrong.

I can't agree with this. I like Sess, but we need players to take us to a higher level. Players that can run at their full back and prize open set defences. Sess does not give us that, and we should be aiming higher. We can't sit still or we'll end up in the Championship.

Quote from: I Ronic on August 29, 2025, 11:47:18 AMI know this has been mentioned before but seeing as almost every other post is a "We haven't signed any out field players". Can I just say we resigned Kenny who was wanted by Everton. So far we've hung onto Rodrigo and Josh King has made a seamless transition into the team (not just the bench).
We don't know who or what the club has been up to. They could have been sitting on their hands or chasing players 24/7.
I hope we get a couple of players in before the window closes but someone whose going to add something not just bench warmer.

What an utter, utter disgrace. And embarrassing that he feels the need to keep calling them out. They're totally incompetent.
