Russia win it by two falls to nil at that last free kick. VAR makes these results as convincing as the old Saturday afternoon wrestling used to be.

VAR & the ref bottled it as it was against Russia. Feel sorry for Spain as we know only too well how difficult it is to break down 11 behind the ball. Russia were a very tough side & would not bet against them to get to the final.

Russia win on pens. Rightly so. Russia and Fifa clearly have come to an understanding. Survive normal time and we can make a deal. I can never understand a goal keeper as skilled and as experienced as David de Gea diving out of the way of two penalties struck down the middle.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

The big question is could England notch up a goal or two against that well drilled Russian defence, I woul hope so.

Will it even matter?

De Gea made one save on 11 shots this tournament. Had a bit of a mare all round.

The African-Franco Umtiti is the prime culprit with Louis Hernandez coming in close second - he was roundly booed by the Ausssies for his reprehensible tactics.

I'm struggling to understand what his African descent has to do with any of this? or is this your way of saying that because he is black that he is more likely to dive? Or..?

What is wrong with you lmao

To take your point seriously I suggested no such thing.  One was merely commenting on this irksome individual who is not a native Frenchman but Cameroon-born.  One has witnessed his transgressions the most, holding his face when touched on the neck, rolling around in agony only to rise like Lazarus after wasting a minute of everyone's time.

I also pointed out Hernandez whose 'gamesmanship' irritated commentator Mark Lawrenson and was booed throughout by the Australian supporters who had had enough of his pile of negative garbage.

That said, France finally arrived at the World Cup against Argentina and are looking very strong when they decide to play the game properly.

Louis Hernandez is white!

I presume this Louis Hernandez bloke is, in fact, a reference to Lucas Hernandez.
Easy mistake to make, all these white blokes look the same, don't they?

Where do we all stand on Lukaku?

Im not very impressed. I'd rather have Mitro every day of the week. Lukaku has no instinct. Always takes a second touch and is sluggish.

Also - anyone ever noticed we haven't as a country recruited referees from abroad?

Surely the Championship could recruit top referees from European nations etc etc to fill the gaps? Because the standard is so poor over here.

Edit - odd German-US accent Klinsman has developed!

Japan taking the lead!

Edit: 2-0 now, Belgium needs to get their act together soon.

Japan are looking good. Their tactics have been spot on against Belgium. Two great goals too.

gezkc

Oops. Spoke too soon.
2-2 now!

He was a manager there for 5 years. Joey Barton concocted a French accent after 2 minutes at Marseille

I'm not optimistic about Tuesday's game and I think Colombia will be pleased that they are playing us and not Belgium.

I seriously doubt that.

It doesn't really matter because Belgium are going to win the World Cup.

Bit of a wobble but what a great winning goal.   :wine:
