Some saying we've had a bid agreed and it's just personal terms, some saying ESR is on a plane to London to sort his medical..

Then you've got Dharmesh Sheth who says we've not had a bid accepted as negotiations are still ongoing.

that's my understanding that until any of these ambitious deals are on the offal it's gossip not gospel.

Why can't he have his medical in the States  with the Jags. Their facilities must be too notch!
I wouldn't pay too much attention to Skys updates on flying here or there, they pick up most of there info from other journalists (in the Uk mainly written media). IF we agree a fee I suspect it will be done in a place where it can be done in time so he can go to Portugal.

Marcel_Gecov

Fab said medical was yesterday, SSN says its today. One is wrong/ lying. I remember when Sky was the most trusted source for rumorus and if it turned up on their Transfer Centre Window it was a done deal essentially. NOw it seems they push any old rumour and arent much better than FootballInsider.

hovewhite

Do think if deals are continuing into 2nd or 3rd days then minor details then well on track as when your talking millions business which it is minor details are the hardest but sure it's just fine tuning which ESR is I think and hope.the Andre deal is the one that seems is nearer done but nothing apart from his clubs replacement announcement and forwarding information to the players move to Fulham.

I am not an in the know by any stretch, but I heard he was having the second part today as they didnt start till the afternoon yesterday.

With Dibley-Dias joining Northampton Town on a season long loan I wonder what is planned for Kieron Bowie - now age 21 - after spending the last two seasons loaned to Northampton (in L2 then L1).

Championship loan or transfer seem likeliest.

Spent too much time hugging Cairney and Ream and saying how happy he was to be free of Spurs I guess.

The old Trafford match just 3 weeks away, should we start speculating on our team line up now or is it worth waiting another week for that big new signing.

That's looking pretty good. I'd like us to upgrade Diop though. Has a clanger in him, and would like him kept as RCB back up.

A home full debut for Traore seems a little optimistic.

Quote from: General on July 25, 2024, 06:53:44 PMJust realised with ESR that he wasn't actually injured that much last season, he just wasn't Artetas preferred option.

ESR was actually available for 31 games of the 38 game season for arsenal and played in Cup matches too. Puts to rest for me the injury risk for him as a player by quite a bit.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emile-smith-rowe/leistungsdaten/spieler/392765/plus/1?saison=2023

Yes, I noticed he was on the bench a fair bit for them last season.
was chatting to a good friend of mine ,à gooner who was glowing about ESR.watched a reel of highlights and can't believe we are on the verge of signing him and arteta would let him go.so until it appears in black n white I will miss out on a big drink with my friend whom I'm watching cricket with Sunday, unless it's all done and dusted by then.

I remember watching him and Saka in their breakout seasons with Arsenal. I thought ESR was ahead of Saka. Sometimes things happen and it takes a little bit longer to get where you are going- personally I have no doubt that ESR can get to that level if he stays fit.

I read somewhere recently that Kieron was wanted by Lincoln City on a permanent transfer as he has been made available by the club. Obviously not rated.

For those that are worried/annoyed about lack of business, see below quote from spurs man.
Ange Postecoglou on Tottenham's transfer business:
"At this time of year it's pretty hard for supporters because they don't have all the information and it's fair to say there's plenty of misinformation out there.
"We're working hard to bring players in and it's a process that you sometimes have to be patient with. But in terms of what we set out to do, that's still the plan and you have to stay disciplined with that.
"Sometimes the timings don't work out and it doesn't happen as quickly as you want and you don't get them (players) in at the right time but I think it's really important you stay disciplined and not run off and chase other things.
"So, what we started with at the start of summer is still there, and I wouldn't want to put timelines on it. A lot of that is out of our control and we just need to be patient.
"From where I sit, at the moment, we're still in that phase where what we identified is still what we're after."

It's not, but its the same argument everytime isn't it. People acknowledge its tough, others like me will say 'well, thats why CFO's and agents etc are paid the big bucks' to navigate and work in these ropey waters, but some will just stick up for the club no matter what.

As always there's a balance of reasonable criticism and some not allowing for any. For what its worth, im content currently but I do find the notion from some posters that criticism, even in tough circumstances, isn't valid.

Think the Andre ones an interesting one for this. All reports were that we were haggling over 5m euros. I posted on here saying there is no way they are going to drop off £25 million so the delays are pointless. Guess what...we've ended up paying that. To play devils advocate to my own moan on that however it all got announced straight after reports confirmed they had their replacement in. Perhaps we were never haggling and it was actually Fluminese wanting to confirm their replacement? Who knows but that's the problem...never really know what's going on but get carried away with reports as maybe  I did here?!

There's critique, and then there's over the top toxicity, vitriol and name calling. I will add-  It's been much better this year generally speaking, most seemingly accepting the words of such managers these days...and presumably more inclined to trust the process given the decent windows of late. So that's a positive.

One can acknowledge we tend to do things a little later (albeit to this point, transfers outside of the circlejerk young player PSR dodging teams haven't exactly been wildly rife so far either tbf) and also understand that so many CFO's and Managers say the same thing about the window as Ange above and ultimately they know far more than any of us here do about it, given they're the ones that actually have experience of it first hand.

Recruitment teams are more paid the big bucks to see the bigger long term picture, identify wider transfer strategy and secure the best talent, not just the most available early on.  Ange directly makes that clear in his statement above - that often you have to be patient and stick to your plans for getting the right players for the clubs in the long term - a small part of justifying ones wage as a CFO/recruitment team might be doing so as timely as possible, but I'd hazard a guess (as mirrored bu Anges comments) not over the preferance for carefully negotiating and balancing the over arching budget and transfer plans to try and get the players most wanted come the end od the window. we've just seen it again recently with Jota Silva (wether were in for him or not still) - His club were trying to push someone to pay £17m, now its reported they've given up and are allegedly willing to look more at £10-12m.... that's the game. Sometimes it works out in your favour, sometimes perhaps it doesn't but it's a game of cat and mouse but saving 5-7m on a number of transfers can transform your plans - bring in more players, or allow for bigger bids and wages elsewhere. The nuanced balancing act is what people are paid for.

Indeed there's so many factors going on + We don't know the structure of that deal yet.

Like with ESR - it's being reported as potentially 35m agreed- but now we're hearing maybe around 27/28m up front with the rest in potential add-ons, better.
Also - in those alleged 10 days between Fluminese telling us their counter price and us not getting back to them , s it likely our team were just chilling doing nothing - or more likely that we were patiently exploring all the options on the table (given reports of us looking at Phillips/Bove/Scott and other DMs etc) and then, from there, also working out what we're able to settle on in terms of big money deals with ESR etc. even maybe saving money on a squad spot with the Sess deal, as all these things have a knock on effect on available budget and what we have and need to manoeuvre generally. It's not a linear one-way thing, negotiations with one player have an affect on what resources we have for the rest so it's a balancing act as ever ad never as straightforward as some seem to think.  Sometimes being patient means we get a cheaper price, sometimes it doesn't and you cough it up, but negotiations are often a game of chicken with other clubs and agents, just as they often are in business, testing resolve and trying to get good deals.

End of the day as Ange says - none of us know the full extent of it all and so - as ever, I prefer to not overly go after, or publically deride those working within contexts that I have very little reliable actual info on. Here's hoping we get a couple in in key positions then more quality in the door however and whenever it comes from here.

Yep, don't disagree with any of that. Glad the place feels way less toxic than other windows but I guess its still relatively early days!  ::tongue::

Personally, I do think the 'balance' of this is still strong on the 'nothing the club can do better' camp, than the 'the club can do no right' side but that's anecdotal and subjective. My post above wasn't really relating to you though, despite the quote post, this was probably more of a follow up to a post recently claiming the club couldn't give out starting lineups for a friendly for reasons beyond our comprehension. I'm all for some balance but this followed by that and a number of other posts really do just feel like the club can't possibly do anything wrong.

'Recruitment teams are more paid the big bucks to see the bigger long term picture, identify wider transfer strategy and secure the best talent, not just the most available early on.' I think we can agree, they;re paid to do both? Get deals over the line as quickly as possible, at the best price, with the right players giving management the best chance to achieve goals. So I do think its relevant still.

I think getting Andre, Sess and Rowe perhaps over the line soon will really take the heat off though. We already have a competitive squad, and we do have competitive replacements for players that have left. But we know theres still a lot of work to do with loans etc so Im excited and not fussed on criticising anyone yet. Just think its important to allow others post and vent a bit, like Drewry mentioned above. Seems fine to me  :welcome1:
