Willian has been a revelation while at Fulham but clearly was going to leave. Sad that he prostitutes himself to the scum league. Not as if he is short of money.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Quote from: Surlyc on July 30, 2024, 12:29:50 PMThe problem with the likes of McTominay/ESR/Chalobah from PL rivals is the wages, which are very likely to instantly be at the top of our structure.

We can probably accommodate a couple of such signings, but we'd really then need to pad out our signings from cheaper leagues (e.g. Andre, Jota Silva etc.).

Fwiw ESR was only on 40k pw at arsenal
Scott 60k at utd
Chalobah 50k

We had 9 players on higher wages than those last year (granted theyd potentially be wanting higher wages to take the "drop" )

For context Lukic is on 63k, highest earner Leno on 130k (followed by free signing raul on 100k!)

Shedding willian, Vini, Mbabu, Palhinha, Tosin and BDRs wages knocks around 325k off our wage bill too
That's base salary (per capology.com?), not what they actually get paid. For example, capology.com has our base wage bill for 22/23 as £62.4m vs. the £139m (Manchester Utd: £247m vs £479m) in our accounts. I understand on-costs and admin staff, but that's still quite a large variance.

Anyway, I stand by my point. We can't shop just from other PL teams as it's much more expensive and not just in transfer fees. We need to balance it with purchases from cheaper leagues, so I don't believe we would/should sign Chalobah, McTominay & ESR only 2 of the 3. That said we are linked with such players (& have a decent record over the last few years, such as Bassey & Palhinha), so it's more about expectation management.
We need to be more sensible with our wages, I agree.

Personally Id say that starts with us not giving (old) players like Raul and Traore ridiculously high wages.

Id rather we spend higher wages on better (and younger) players. If those players are Esr André and McTominay I'll personally leave it up to the club to decide if we can afford them all or not.

Cross referenced on multiple websites, fbref/capology/spotrac/salary sport. They might well all get their info from one place who knows, sometimes they have slightly diff figures but mostly pretty consistent across them. But yeh, of course can only go off of what's published on multiple public sources and could well be base rate (or even wrong), though that's the same for all clubs and players on their lists. Can't say I'm aware of the details of our wage bill and who and what it includes in our accounts so couldn't speak to that though.

A fair point about signing only from Prem teams and they're likely to be pricier - Im sure there'll be a blend as usual, but as I say, in the case of the players were discussing as being linked with, they're all on considerably lower wages currently than many of our other players already, and we are shedding well over £300k in wages already having lost some of our top earners, so it may be that it's manageable and worth doing for the ones we're in for in this instance. Especially when you pick up some like Sess where there's no fee involved up front. As a wider point, sure though good to pick up some from "cheaper" leagues if deemed good enough.

Wow really? Id much prefer McTominay, hes taller and more physical and a better goalscorer.

Icing on the cake is id rather give United money than Chelsea.

But that's kind how it goes for all clubs right?
Traore at 60k got good improved wages because he had zero outlay on his free transfer.
Same for Raoul - he was what £5m? Same with Leno - we picked him up for a bargain and often that's why players drive up wage prices and it's a universal thing. Clubs and players often speak about how some players will run down a contract knowing it means they'll get a better sign on fee and wages personally if they are a free agent.

Raul on 100k was not a great move from the club.

Not the best deal on wages for sure, but under £5m fee for him so there's that. Contributed pretty well generally once he got going ...7 goals despite getting unlucky that just as he settled in and was scoring and was beginning to find form, he got that ridiculous sending off for that flying bum to the face challenge, and then a random hamstring injury that kept him out for another 6 games. By that time Muniz was on fire and he didn't get much game time as a result. I do expect he'll be the next striker out the door after Vinicius though unless he does something insane this year.

Is that based on Sportrac?
Wasn't that essentially debunked recently?
There are some absurd numbers in there (almost always in the direction of being absurdly low).

As mentioned in my reply above - cross referenced across multiple wages websites. capology/sportrac/fbref/aiscore etc All seemingly mostly saying the same thing. It absolutely could well be that they are all completely incorrect but not sure where else one is supposed to find trustworthy information on specifics. When you go individually and google those players and articles it seems to be mostly in line with what's reported. Cant do much more than that without spending ones life trying to sherlock holmes it or knowing someone on the inside ha

StuinSalop

It's obvious to me that ESR is Willian's replacement.  Willian was class and very hard to replace so ESR is a great piece of business for us.

I have a feeling we will see more of Lukic this season but need quality next to him.  I can see why Marco would love Lukic and McTominay as a double pivot.  I personally doubt that even Marco will be able to talk McTominay into moving from Man United unless they tell him he has no future.

I personally don't think Andre will happen.

Reed, Cairney plus a cheepish pickup can provide cover but don't be surprised if this is a breakthrough season for Lukic.

Add to the above 2 x centre backs, one a starter the other a backup and I think we are done.

I imagine it's part 1 of the medical today, part 2 tomorrow morning then sign the contract, do an interview and photo shoot and fly to Portugal tomorrow night.

I find medicals confusing. I don't think they take a full day, just half a day (5 hours is a long time). I think the whole day thing includes meeting team mates, marco and doing media stuff like a photo shoot and first interview, having something to eat.

Would explain why you can sign players so last minute in the window in half a day on transfer deadline day.

I was considering that United reportedly wany £40m for McTominay really.  However, you make a great point about not giving any money that lot.

Fcuk 'em.

Rutzler reporting the same thing in The Athletic.

Sorry don't have a link because of the paywall but he says:

"Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe is undergoing a medical at Motspur Park today before completing his move to Fulham.

Once the deal is completed, the 24-year-old will link up with his new teammates on their pre-season tour in Portugal. Marco Silva's side travel to the Algarve today, ahead of fixtures with Benfica (Friday, August 2) and Sevilla (Monday, August 5)"

Sounds like a good chance this will be confirmed by the club today or tomorrow (subject to the famous Fulham medical lol)

There are two parts to a medical. One is with the team docs and physios which is the stuff that gets posted to the YouTube channel and is where they get poked and prodded and do strength/resistance tests. The other part is at the hospital and is scans of basically every joint in the body, blood tests, heart check, etc.

It probably could be pushed through in 1 day but is usually split across 2 days

Just spoken to my friend who is often spot on with his info, they said they would be suprised if we don't land Andre and McTom. Silva wants both. Seen a bit more chatter around Mengi who I think would also be an excellent acquisition.
