Quote from: Deeping_white on July 30, 2024, 12:12:59 AMWhat's interesting is that a large portion of the Fluminense fanbase seem to be worried about us walking away at £25m, as seen in the below tweet and replies. Maybe it's posturing on their end about a deal not being done to try and save face, based on the TIFF post it might actually show that once again MN's source is correct?

https://twitter.com/gumsincero/status/1818038530880495678

Translation: If Fulham withdraw their £25 million offer for André we are F#CKED!

MUST sell! There is no but, there is no but, there is nothing!

The player wants to go, the club needs the money (which is more than expected), and I hope it works out.

That's very interesting. Didn't realize their finances were so poor. Other fans in the replies to that post also agree they need to sell. Maybe we are trying to make them crack by leaking offers/plans for other CMs.

The thing about the payment structure would make some sense. They need cash and they need it now so they are demanding half up front. We seemingly don't have much cash on hand, hence the borrowing against the cottage and spreading the ESR fee over 4 years

In fairness, it may not be that their finances are so poor, I think it could have something to do with the fact that they may have already bought in a replacement for andré or perhaps have one lined up that played against then recently who they're quire excited about and won't get if we get andré. Could be wrong.

What seems consistent, a bit like with the ESR role is that the price being quoted does seem to be considered fair by most involved, from fans, to journalists who quoted it saying it was almost done, to ITKs etc. So it does seem like the price may not be the sticking point. I also feel like I've read somewhere that the fans suggested they've found or already brought in a replacement for andré which may be why they're more open to saying goodbye, though he does seem to be a key player for them and key to their resurgence in form.

Don't forget, whilst the Fluminense president did say they sent us a counteroffer, he didn't necessarily say the bid was rejected in terms of the sum, just that there was a counteroffer, which could quite easily be the fact they want 50% of the fee up front.

Quote from: Deeping_white on July 29, 2024, 11:13:41 PMFWIW someone on TIFF who's known to be ITK put a post on there about 1:45ish today confirming that ESR was done and then it broke about 2 hours later. Same poster said that the £25m fee for Andre is agreed but they're working out a payment structure because Fluminense want 50% of the fee up front.

Interesting, it also makes me think we are going for Andre and McTominay, we really need two midfielders in this window.

Two midfielders and a centre back and I think we're good, providing no one else leaves. Ideally a back up left back as well, but Sess can cover left back as can Castagne if need be. And our forward is pretty stocked with: Adama, Wilson, Iwobi, Andreas, ESR, Sess, and Stansfield. Ideally I would like someone like Jota Silva to join but I would priories the budget on two starting midfielders and a starting centre back. If there's money left over then a back up left back and a quality wide left forward (if we can find the right player in that position save the money).

Not to be that guy, but surely Paulo Gazzaniga?
Good spot, forgot about him.

Thames Bank 1

Marco did say he wanted 2 CB's, wouldn't be surprised if we were in for Morata, we play Benfica this weekend.

That was so cringeworthy wasn't it?  Him fumbling about in his sock for his mask....it wouldn't have been quite so embarrasing had he scored more goals!

I thought all deals were done on these spread payments anyway.

I think we need to stop with these "he is a cm, not a dm" stuff. Tactics and player roles are much more fluid than the binary "he is a cm not a dm" phrasing.

Rutzler, the most trusted journo on Fulham Id say, said we wanted André AND McTominay. We have submitted bids for both. That should be a sign that we are looking at both because lets face it, Palhinha wont be replaced fully by one player. So signing two players makes sense. Sort of like when West Ham replaced Rice with JWP and Alvarez. Signing two players also gives Marco a bit more options for tactical variations. Id imagine someone like Souza would be our back up for Mctominay

A couple of weeks ago I wrote that if we can get Chalobah, André, McTominay and ESR - that would cost us a lot of money but also make the exact transformation we need in terms of quality and age profile. Basically getting an entirely new back bone for our squad along with Bassey and Leno.  That would lay the ground work for us establishing ourselves as a top half for years to come.  Adding a back up LB as well

Judging by rumors and news, I still think these players are our priority targets and if we get these, or players of similar qualities, then we have likely conducted our most exciting window in years.

Leno
Castagne Chalobah Bassey Robinson
André McTominay
Wilson Pereira ESR
Muniz
-------
Benda
Tete
Diop
Ream (?)
New LB

Reed
Lukic
Cairney

Traoré
Iwobi
Sess
Stansfield

Raul
Thats two players for each position, just like Marco wants.

If this is our squad come september, Id say thats one great transfer window

Hmmm, makes no difference from an FFP perspective, just a cash flow perspective. Sort of fits with the narrative on the mortgaging of the cottage thread. One assumes we could actually have got him for less if we'd paid it all up front.

You are truly hell-bent on looking at anything and everything from the most negative angle possible :slap:

Jesus, we're signing a top young talent many Arsenal fans are devastated to see go and you are still fighting to find a way to make it into a negative any way possible.

Brother, enjoy life, its over before ya know it and this is supposed to be a bit of fun! Im not even trying to start an argy I just really am flabbergasted at the lengths to make this a glass half-empty moment when there's so much  be excited about here.

Might it fail miserably? Absolutely, like any club, gambles can not pay off but bloody ell, young, talented player, highly coveted and rated by fellow professionals...do try and allow yaself a bit of enjoyment out here.

For me Angus Telford isn't being a doom monger of any sort, he's just questioning the FFP implications. Talk about Jayffc creating a mountain out of a molehill.

If it was about one singular message in isolation, sure, but it wasnt.

Additionally, It was light hearted and even Angus managed to take it in the spirit it was intended and has acknowledged the yin-ness of his nature compared to my perceived yang a couple times now in good spirits.

Agreed. Though for some reason I'd prefer Jimenez to start up front at the beginning of the season, plus he's been seemingly already in pretty hot form in preseason if our two behind doors friendlies are anything to go by.

One thing I also would change, is weirdly, despite Wilson showing good form in pre season, I'd start with Iwobi and ESR on the wings.

I do like the way things are potentially shaping up though - Chalobah, McTominay and Andre into the team including ESR would be a good large chunk of the window. I'd personally like to see Willian back and another LCB and LB, but that's just me and perhaps they can be the loans.

F(f)CUK

If McTominay is brought in, I suspect that Pereira will go. I think that might be our plan.

I doubt Andre is going to come which is the reason McTomminay is being mentioned again.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I don't think it's that straightforward. I think they can play in the same team and fundamentally are different types of players who play different positions.

A midfield of Periera at CAM with McTominay box to box and Andre deeper would be really very exciting on paper tbf. Add ESR and Iwobi/Adama out wide and what a starting mid we'd have and still stacked on the bench too.

I've no idea if it's one or the other between Andre and Scott, would be surprised if it were both purely money wise with other spaces to fill, but would be very enthusiastic if it happened. If not Andreas, it could perhaps signal the moving of one of Lukic/Cairney/Reed given ESR and Iwobi both plenty good in the centre as well as on the wings (although TC doesn't seem to be going anywhere, suspect he wants to retire at fulham now)

Certainly going to be interesting to see how it plays out come the end of the window. You'd think Periera isn't going to want to risk not getting plenty of game time having touted himself for a move already and having just broken into the Brazil team, we've had the early links to Chelsea after all. Would be pretty wild competition for midfield places for a club like us if we have all those in the door AND keep the midfielders we have currently. Watch this space I guess.
